So thrilled I have come across your workshops - thank you for sharing - I need some new inspiration and your beautiful technique and colours provide it!
That iris is stunning! At one point I was sure I got a whiff of its fragrance. Your narration was clear and convinced me that I could do it too. What talent!
Thank you so much for your comment. It makes me very happy to know that you got a lot out of this particular video. Good luck on your watercolor journey.😊
I always have admired your paintings that come on my Facebook feed. I didn’t know your had tutorials. I love watching this one.... you are magical. Well at least your hand is. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful gift
LOL. Yes I’m not so sure I’m magical, but I get your meaning. So glad you like this video it was one of my favorites to do as well. And I promise there will be more..I’ve just been a little slow getting things started in my studio to video.
Beautiful video Rae. I did an iris painting today but I didn't remember this particular video of yours. However, I picked up many of your tips from other videos and thank you again so much for sharing.
Gorgeous In my opinion it is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to know when to stop. You know when to stop. Your artistry speaks for itself and needs no "convincing ". Brava
Finally I found you ! I am so excited ..watching you paint as I have wanted to as well, not the botanical style but loose and dreamy.....will keep watching you and hope to see you do more paintings. Nearly 80 yrs young now so please keep painting so I can find my true path to express what I feel !
So glad you liked this video Cynthia.. my RU-vid videos have been a little light on lately because of my online classes. But I hope to get more up and running in the near future. Meanwhile have fun. 😊
@@raeandrews1925 Look forward to more, I have a hard time keeping the white of the paper...white /and just seem to get going and over paint then spend time removing the paint once I recognize how much I was unable to just STOP rather than keep going mixing colours to watch what happens. Have to slow down ! Thank you !
The key to that is not wetting the whole paper Cynthia. Be strategic and work methodically. I work very fast for the demos, but I pace myself more when I work on my own. You need time to think, Watercolor gets away from you easily.
I love this. The absolute genious about this is 100 people could do this and there would be 100 unique results. This technique also satisfies my desire to use watercolors that capitalizes the media beautifully. Thank you for sharing!
Yes!! Thank you for that observation Nyana. The technique is all anyone should be concerned about, the results are up to the individual. Each artist will use different strokes and differing subjects, so it will totally be their work..
@@raeandrews1925 it's so much fun! My composition needs improvement. But the dancing with the paint couldn't be enjoyed more. Loving it so much now. ❤❤
You're so inspiring. I'm glad I read the Spring 2021 Watercolor Artist Magazine that had the New to a View brief that featured your art and led me here. It definitely makes me want to give it a go....I'm checking to see if we have a straw as soon as I get off the computer. Your journaling video was also enchanting to watch. I'm watching as the iris in my yard come up and this just seems like a very spring thing to paint right now. Glad I found you!
I am in awe of your negative painting! For me, I find negative painting to be the most difficult technique to envision. I'd love to see a more simpler flower tutorial. I wouldn't even attempt a positive painting of an iris!!! LOL
Sorry, I had it in to begin with and RU-vid only allows 15 minutes of footage so I deleted it.. I will try to do better ..still learning the ropes of this movie editing. Thanks for your enthusiasm though..❤️
I am just starting in watercolor. Do they make black watercolor paper? Your work is absolutely beautiful. I love your channel. You explain things slowly and that is really helping me. Have a great day.😊
Thank you for your comment.. I am glad you liked the video.. my dagger brush is 3/8” Silver Black Velvet brand...I hope this helps, these brushes are great fun..😊
Thank you. You mentioned you erase the pencil marks at the end. I always find that once I have painted over the pencil marks they are impossible to erase afterwards. Is there a way around this, please?
You are correct.. if you have painted over the pencil marks it’s very hard to remove them. I use a very faint pencil mark to begin with.. Hopefully if those pencil marks are on the still unpainted areas I will be able to erase them as I go.. I think it’s best to try and erase them even slightly before you paint over that area.. I hope that makes sense.
Rae, lovely! I am just a beginner in this form of art. I´ve had many years break. I would love to hear about the process you experienced when developing your skills and your unique style. I also like not to control, I am into very abstract forms but my paintings are rather messy... (absolutely it is lack of skill). And yet, I do not choose to go the safe way. Well, who knows...
Hi Jane, thank you for your comment. I have always tested my brain on new strategies with my art, no matter which medium I choose, I paint in them all. I think it’s healthy not to get into a safe area with our painting, it will be the kiss of death I feel. So I paint many genres, in many ways. Sometimes I send myself a little crazy doing so, but I learn all the time from one painting to another. Have fun on your journey of discovery. Rae
Beautiful painting you just need to have your camera overhead as your explanation is great but we need to watch you as you paint. Thank you for sharing God bless.
Thank you for your comment but please keep trying it takes practice..I have had many failures while learning how to paint watercolor so please don’t be discouraged
Hi Elizabeth.. the brushes I mostly use are Silver Black Velvet brushes. I use a #8 round, also a Dagger or Striper brush 3/8”, and a rigger or a liner .All in the same brand. I hope this helps.😊
I know it’s difficult when that paint goes over it, and a lot of the time it’s too late ..but I use a soft white eraser and hope for the best..thank you for your comment
