Never ceases to amaze me how a frame and mount can affect a painting, it really made that wave jump out. White water is a challenge, thanks for great tips and demo!

Your Welcome Big C. Framing works wonders for a painting in the same way varnishing an oil brings it to life.

Pure Watercolour Patrick Ley-Greaves Thanks Patrick I bought some oils and I had a go but not very good will keep trying. Maybe varnish one day. I keep going back to wc. Just completed my first A5 project book, really satisfying to flick through. You tube has been a major source of encouragement- thanks to people like you sharing!

An awesome beautiful painting. I can hear the pounding waves and seagulls screeching, and smell the salty air. Thanks for the detailed demo. Going to try this when I get to the coast in a few weeks.

Great lesson! Good to know that even accomplished artists sometimes want to overwork a painting - the different being that you can recognize that! Thanks!

Thanks Fiona its easily done. I usually known when I'm over working by the brush size I am using.

So funny...I was watching a video by Liron Yanconsky and he mentioned you and how you do a lot of your mixing on the paper. So this is the video I decided to watch and you mention Liron's name! Great video by the way. You made painting the ocean much easier for me. It is an area I have always had trouble with. Thanks!

Totally loved this! I like the building of the painting in layers which increased the value range and textured feel. The dabbing strokes added a dimension I want to develop expertise in. Thank you!

I actually found your videos through Liron’s channel when he interviewed you! Love his channel! I’ve learned a ton and I’m taking his drawing class! This painting is marvelous! Hope you’ll do some more like this as it reminds me of the rocks and waves in Maui. The rocks are accurately hard!

Awesome! I have some photos of crashing waves from an island I used to live on, and I've looked at them from time to time, wishing I could paint something like that. However it felt like something that would be impossible to accomplish. Now I might give it a go!

Ah thanks! I've gone from working with children, to making children's books! You can look them up on Amazon under Vicki Kate Nash books. The Animal Alphabet book has lots of skies of the front, inspired from your sky tutorials! (Brilliant thanks ). My website is going to be improved soon hopefully, but it's www.childrensillustration.org. Thank you again!

Patrick, when you are using the blade and scratching out the waves, splashes & rocks...do you use this technique when the paper is dry?....or when it's wet?...or when is the best time for the effect? :) Thanks!!
@PatrickLeyGreaves

Hi Sylvia, I use the scratching out technique when the paper is dry only. Thank you for taking the time to comment :)

This subject, I call it WBOR. WAVES breaking on Rock s. It's my favorite scene. I'd like to see more like this. More energy, dynamic movement. I'm a beginner, especially with wc. Love to get your feedback on one, is that possible?
