Summer is here and what better time to try this sandwich of recent history. I saw it on TikTok and many kind folks shared it with me as well. I’ve various combo of sweet and savory and dig that flavor profile. But this was a new one, for me at least. That’s because in addition to watermelon, mozzarella cheese, balsamic reduction, and basil there’s…dill pickles. And yeah, I’ve had pickled watermelon rind but I can say with confidence that this ain’t that. Yet, it was quite tasty.

I realize I'm outting myself as a complete weirdo, but sometimes I like to imagine that Barry's shirt goes all the way to the floor, and it makes me giggle. Oh yeah, uh... compulsory and very normal sandwich based comment incoming.... cool sandwich!

I'm a Brit, but after reading a southern united states food blog, I always add salt to watermelon. Salt would have been my "plus it up". Thank you for another great vid.

When I heard mozzarella, I was like, naw. Roquefort sounds great! Also, not a fan of feta. Thanks for the idea.

Watermelon already tastes like sweet cucumber to me so I’m not the least bit surprised it goes well with the pickle. I’d try it.

One of my favorite summer salads is watermelon, grilled halloumi, red and green onion, arugula, salt, pepper, olive oil, lemon juice, balsamic vin, and a sprinkle of sunflower seeds. Really similar to this sandwich. It's so refreshing.

TBH, I immediately thought that looked like it could be tasty. I'm not sure about the "sandwich" form factor though. Looks like it would be better tackled with a knife and fork.

Pickles do seem a little strange, but the rest all make perfect sense. I’ve seen salads that have that same watermelon, mozzarella, basil, balsamic core. Maybe also with red onions. While I’m not necessarily inclined to make it as a sandwich, the ingredients clearly can work well together as a side.

Watermelon is my favorite fruit, and I enjoy all the other parts of this "sandwich", so I'd try it. Plus up....a fork and a knife😅!

YUM Actually! I just made it with the plus-up. For such a weird "sandwich", it tastes like an 8.5 to me (point off for 'wetness')

I have tried sprinkling salt and balsamic, both work. Local watermelons by me are a little while off. Hope we get a bit of rain, but not too much. I would try this sandwich plussed up, 100%.

Like the flavor combo but it be better as a salad. Cut into cube and load up a skewer. But, not really a sandwich (and I think we all know why).

No mention of hand feel? I’m here trying to think of what sort of wrapper wouldn’t weird up the taste and keep my hands from getting sticky. Bread would probably unbalance the flavors, right?

Honestly, I am not adverse to any of those things, except the big honking basil leaves. I like basil, but not a whole fresh leaf of it. I might have some trouble taking a bite but if I use dill pickle relish then I should be good to go.

I’m really surprised, and I’m open to trying just about anything, but I thought this would not work. The watermelon might be better compressed, texture-wise.

I think it would be even better with homemade quick pickled dill pickles. Not that shocking. I could see watermelon and cucumber. So picked cucumbers not that far a stretch
