If there gortex buddy you don't need to waterproof them I've had loads of haix boots never had wet or cold feet I just used altbergs leder Gris brown wax oil polish
Totally correct Sir, as the leather can still breath no need to do this as you have said it will just block the pores of the leather and make the inner of the boot a total sweatbox which could lead to Trench foot over long periods.
May I suggest you use Castor oil ... Using castor oil will produce a very high shine and it won't go rancid . Also add either shea butter or cocoa butter for an added deep supple conditioner . I have used this recipe for 30 plus years on all my leathers and it conditions and waterproofs like a charm
@@rogerivy2919 Mix it all together. heat over steam or over a low flame in a glass jar and set the glass jar in a couple inches of a pot of water till everything is liquefied and mixed together .... when all mixed together then pour into your molds or tin containers. let harden for 20-30 min . if you need more specific measurements I can help you .
@@kenhappen2u oh wow I see what u mean, I didnt think u meant this as a mix but now I get it, I really like your idea you know why??? bec im in UK, and specially were I live I can only get those two ingredients you just mentioned and they are the cheapest and Im guessing the easiest to work with. I actually have already a big tub of Coconut oil, and loads of shops near me sell it...yes would love to get the % of each ....tx
@@rogerivy2919 it would be a 1 to1 to 2 parts mixture ... 1 ounce of Shea butter . 1 ounce of Cocoa butter to 2 ounces of Castor oil 1 ounce Bees wax . Add in .5 ounces of Coconut oil and .5 ounces sweet almond oil . The sweet almond oil is optional but keep in mind that the more natural oils you add the more supple your leather will be and the easier to work with in the end ... The more wax and less oil the harder the paste will be . also if wanting to make less then just half the recipe . You will love this ! Been using this for 30 plus years and it beats any store bought products . This recipe goes back more than 100 years and is what the Old west cowboys and ranch hands used on all their leathers .Saddles , Boots . knife sheaths . jackets ,
I have the exact same boots.. I can't get the dark brown colour like yours how did you get that colour... I use altberg polish on mine... Military brown... Should I switch to a darker kiwi polish? Stay safe..
im not sure really my boots came this color and im moving away from polishes because they just build up on the surface. might want to remove the polish and re-stain the leather. i hear acetone will remove boot polish but use at your own risk.
@@iansforge thanks for your help... I've used mink oil that's darkened it a little... Hopefully they'll get darker more.... Why do u no longer use polish are you moving onto wax etc
How are the boots on hikes.... Are they good on all terrain.. I have two new pairs ready for winter hiking.... Brown pair and black pair.... Many thanks
