Most musicians I play with use the Bbo chord there. It's also that way in most fakebooks, but you can play an A7b9 if you prefer, but they sound the same except for the bass note.

I feel that I will need to work and study some of those voicings so I fully understand how to apply them to other songs. I've gotten good at rootless voicings used for 2,5,1's. I need to study the drop 2 and locked hand chords among others. Your arrangements are gorgeous and a great way to practice them too.

Thanks for writing and your question, Vivi. Of course, if you are a mezzo, contralto, or alto, you will be singing a 3rd, 4th or 5th below the standard keys, which are usually written in soprano and tenor keys (top notes being around E, F, G.) So you will need to transpose the lead sheets down. I can do some of that for you if I have the songs in my Sibelius song files. It's a good idea for a singer to be able to transpose to their keys on their own, so a very good investment for you would be to have a transposing software program in which you can import songs and then transpose them to your appropriate key. This is very easy with Sibelius and you can try it out for free. I really should do some videos on working with singers, because I have accompanied singers for years ..also it's important to learn how to accompany yourself while singing, which involves learning good voice- leading and rhythm. (bass lines in LH and chords in RH).

Kent Hewitt Thanks for your thoughts and advice. Although Encore is an old software.. I think by assigning the key changes, you can transpose the Midi file.. I think I would need midi files to transport songs. Right? Those to download are in PDF. I also play and sing with a guitar player and base, which is a different ball game as the ranges can overlap. Many Technics to develop at once! I love the cocktail piano tunes you show us, as I love harmony, reharmonization and different techniques...except I can't sing to them. Then the transposition to Mezzo or Alto ( I have amplitude range) Tthe accompanying techniques to play by myself (with spread voicings , block chords) bass and chords.. and finally to get training in playing in trip or quartet. + I know I mostly need to do Bill Evans, chords, no Bass note... So get side tracked most of the timet to where to devote my study time to! Your video for singing pianist would be very appreciated! Thanks again!!

I think Sibelius has a free or nearly free version. I just bought Notion, which is available for iPad for 30 bucks (150 for Windows; I have both). I also just got SmartScore, which transforms PDFs into Music Xml, so one can transpose any PDF after the format change. As a saxophonist, I transpose to accommodate singers, so you should learn to do that on piano to suit your range. My vocal range is both low and small, which has been my "go to" excuse for not singing.

I agree Marilyn...thanks for the correction. You are right. "Girl" has been a 1st set wedding band song now for years. However Wave is probably his 2nd most popular song and it is a gem in it's own unique way. He wrote so many marvelous songs.... it's hard to pick a favorite. BTW...IMHO, homeless has it's perks.
