Commenting as a hobby beekeeper myself: Run it through a seive right after it's all melted for the first time. You later seived both components individually. After peeling the wax off the top of the honey, I scrape the bottom of the block with a knife to remove the dross (easiest under running hot water, but then you have to clean the wax off the sink), then I re-melt & pour it through a nylon stocking. I spray my mold with a silicone spray to stop it sticking. The containers you are using (cake trays?) come in nonstick versions.

Cody, I gotta say, throughout a lot of your videos from getting honey and bees wax to jarring peaches to composting, you've actually managed to convince me to start learning to do all of this stuff. Composting any food scraps I have, grow a garden, take care of bees not just to help pollinate local flowers and such but to get fresh homemade honey, and to start jarring my own food to bring with me placed instead of just bringing some frozen meal. Some of this I'll have to wait until I get my own house, but some I can start on as soon as I get the materials. I'm pretty excited

Honey is basically super concentrated dextrose which is why it's so viscous. Because of this viscosity it will kill off certain species of bacteria by disrupting the propper concentration of nutrients in the bacteria, either that or it causes the bacteria to explode because it absorbs too much without having time to clone itself.
@jthewelshwarlord6331

It's more of a dessicant because of the osmosis effect leeching all the water out of the bacteria.

The high sugar content in the honey preserves it for vast periods of time. I wonder if, eventually, the bee legs and wings would fossilize? Sort of like a miniscule tar pit, that ancient dinosaurs fell into. Would we end up with a tiny lagerstätte fossil bed? Or, just tasty candied bee? 😂
@tissuepaper9962
@tissuepaper9962 6 лет назад
Rembrandt I think there would have to be a pretty significant mineral content in the honey to fossilize things with it. Maybe put some fossilizable things in some honey and put it all in a pressure cooker to try to accelerate the fossilization process. This would be a pretty cool long term experiment, just sort of leave the pressure cooker on some sort of burner or heating element for a few weeks or months.

I think this video does fit onto this channel quite nicely as a handycraft/DIY thing. The ones where most of the video is you rearranging those wooden planks inside beehives are the boring ones.

Yeah, there's honey found in ancient Egyptian tombs that is still safe to eat. Great food to stock up on for survival needs.

Jesus you're almost at 1.5 million subs, that's so crazy. I've been watching since you had like 2000 subscribers' I think I was googling stuff about bees(no wait I remember now, it was thermite! I was watching videos of thermite reacting with different things and came across one of your videos) I've been watching ever since!! You make such awesome content it's no surprise you've grown so quickly, because you really do deserve the success.
