Items to Ask about your Target Audience: 1. Age 2. Careabouts (interests) 3. Painpoints (bug, hurt or worry them) 4. What are they searching for (what kinds of search queries are they typing into search engines, what are they looking for) 5. What are they not searching for (but would click on if they saw it?) 6. what do they want in a video? 7. what are they not interested in? (be specific, look for real people)

I just had a great idea. A third channel. Christian cooking with chef Mike Winger.

I know of a channel that did the very thing Pastor Mike is talking about and is successful. An elementary school teacher who heard his students talking about games they were playing that were far from healthy content wanted to show kids that games don't need excessive violence or swearing in order to be fun. So he made a clean gaming channel targeting elementary school students. His videos consist of him playing games that are both clean and fun, and inserting song and video clips at parts of his mess ups and victories that make them incredibly funny. He has over 100k subscribers; he interacts with them now by letting them vote on games and things he does in games, letting them play online with him, and much of his target audience sends him fan mail which he always takes time to address and show his appreciation for as well. Another example is the math teacher Eddie Woo who just made a math channel to help a few of his students who were missing his class due to medical reasons not fall behind, and it turned out to help students all around the world understand math. So, yeah. There's something to this target audience thing, as well as thinking of how to help a specific person when making the content.

Please Mike, we need this channel to work. We need these tips from you. I am from Czech republic, we dont have any type of content like this. We need people like you to make this content. Thank you :)

Mike, about four or five months after I got born again I had a season of doubt about whether I could trust the Bible, and one day one of your evidence for the Bible videos was suggested to me and it blew my mind and helped solidify my faith. I've half jokingly said once or twice that I think God intervened in the RU-vid algorithm to show me that video. Thank you for all your hard work, Mike. You've had such a huge impact on my life!

As a big RU-vid watcher, I click off people I’ve watched for years because many times, they branch off in so many directions. I think they get board with that thing they use to be passionate about. Your point makes so much sense.

I wonder if a channel would be useful like this... speaking substantive encouragement and Scriptural comfort to bereaved Christian mothers who have lost at least one baby in the womb or shortly after birth, who are busy women who watch videos instead of reading many books, and who believe in Jesus but are wrestling with their Faith thanks to their experience of deep suffering...coming from someone who has been there and wants to share “the comfort I’ve received from God in order to comfort others.”

What they don’t want is as important to know, as what they do… that’s awesome

This is real helpful I’m trying to launch a second and third channel (Bible and missions) but I’ve been running into walls because of what you’re saying… I can’t find my niche because it doesn’t exist. My current channel is copying what works in my niche:.. what God’s calling me to do is create a new niche. Discipling burnt out and Bible school missionary prospects to prepare them and connect them to missions organizations. Whew … blurry but 100x better than an hour ago. Now I need to figure out what they search for and what they will click on. Then what they need to get to the missions field. Thanks a ton for pointing me in the right direction . I’m still overwhelmed and terrified but…🙏🙏

My husband and I recently felt like we needed to start a RU-vid channel. We both have bachelors in theology but feel like our target audience is middle school and high school with a mix of Bible knowledge, Wisdom and advice, and comedy.

Suggested video idea for channel: How to turn your videos from a generic channel into Christian content. I am looking at starting a gaming channel (which is funny because you keep mentioning it), but I can't work out how to wrap my faith into the content naturally as almost nobody does it. This might not be easy for your to answer as yours is an obviously teaching channel where you just teach the Bible or stuff around that rather than having something else going on in the background. I would love to know your advice. My channel is still incredibly small and has a long way to go before it even looks or sounds decent and gets subs. But I would love some advice on how to work it in naturally so that it is just part of the content, not a crowbar of 5 mins of preaching everyone skips. I don't want to be preached at while watching game play, but a fun conversation on it would be great. I am just not sure how to bridge that gap.

Helping gay people lean more on Yashua(Jesus) and the struggle of removing themselves from their same sex relationships. As this is the same situation I am in, it would be easier for someone like me to help them verses a "straight" person that doesn't know what its like to be in their shoes. That is what I am gearing up to move my channel to move towards.

Now listening to your target audience, I realize why I love your channel so much. It is the audience I want to target and want I strive to provide but have not been successful! I started with gaming, then moved to teaching Hebrew, then to art, now, with God's help I have a niche channel where I teach the Bible from a Hebrew culture perspective with art and to a Brazilian audience.

Now it makes sense as to why I get frustrated with some Christian RU-vid channels on here...I'm not their target audience, so best to move on from them.

@MikeWinger, first THANK YOU. Tremendous tips today! Secondly, when did keywords (and focusing on search) become a backseat to suggested content? This was one of the biggest revelations I had from today’s video.

Would you recommend making a Christian channel about anime? My target audience would be young Christians, 21-26 predominantly male, that enjoy anime however find themselves drowned on the over sexualization of the body in that industry. I'd like to talk about clean, wholesome shows that you can watch without stumbling and how you can be a Christian and still enjoy some content with enough discernment. Emphasis on some. I'm doubtful since I did at one point before accepting Christ become addicted to anime media and it controlled my life, to the point of prioritizing anime over my college studies, however, after accepting the Lord, I've been freed from the ties and have been slowly gaining confidence in the discernment that God has provided me. I feel there may be people that are going through the same thing and may benefit from my past experiences and help them reconcile their interest with their faith. Would you say this is a good enough target? I have a Latin American Spanish accent and am also afraid that may dissuade people from watching.

Hey Mike, thanks for the content some people watching this won't understand why your sharing this but we must use every tool we can to Glorify God, thank you for bridging the Gap. Thank you for this. Very helpful. It seems though that some of the most successful channels are *extremely* general. For example, Joe Rogan deals with many different topics. You might say his target audience is “men” - but that’s extremely broad. How do you decide *how narrow* your target audience should be?
