Wayde's 400m Olympic gold was one of the most smooth and powerful displays of speed I have ever seen. He did not even look human. I hope he does it again.

Agreed. He's one of my all-time favs and you're absolutely right, we lost at least 2 solid seasons of his Dominance. He's certainly not the only Elite guy to lose crucial Prime years to injury..... I think of Bromell and Degrasse specifically, both losing prime YEARS to injury and both making Full comebacks too. ( even though many counted both out after being gone for a couple seasons. They definitely had the last laugh there..) I think for Wayde, this is HIS season for a full return to his best self comeback. He's not getting any younger and the time is NOW if he wants to make the Podium again. I'd never count out that guy.... when he's at his best, he's nearly untouchable. Can't wait....

@@willstuart4504 De Grasse was the luckiest of the athletes mentioned. He lost about a year to a year and a half of his prime years. His 2017 injury that ruled him out of London and resulted in a mediocre 2018 season wasn't so bad that he couldn't come back and medal in 2019. It's great that he also managed to finally win Gold and pr twice in the 100m and 200m.

I am a huge fan of WVN and hope to see him continue to climb his way back to the top. But until he posts a sub 44, he is not back to his old self. That being said, he could be on a world podium and even win with a low 44. The 400M doesn't have anyone consistently in the sub 44 range anymore. Norman and Gardiner can do it when in shape, but both are not in top form anymore.

Stepping back from favorites, all athletes at this level are to be respected and encouraged for their efforts, as they all have their own story. But... you have to feel for Van Niekerk, given the frivolous way in which he was catastrophically injured at the worst possible time, and the tenacity with which he has not given up, when you would have thought most would, and made these steady improvements. He must think about the circumstances of that injury over and over.... Yet, now, a major medal win must feel sooo within his grasp!

This guy tore has ACL playing pick game of rugby........I mean.....he most likely would have run the 400 under 43 seconds had that not happened.....he may very well return to a super elite runner again, but I doubt he will break that 43 second barrier....I give Michael Norman more a chance these days to do it......but, let this be a warning of caution to runners out there...particularly world class elite ones.....I know being an athlete and having fun should not be limited, but.....when you make your living from running from point A to point B as fast you as you can possibly run....its probably not wise to partake in sports, even for fun, that require cutting and also physical contact by others.....otherwise, well, you are risking a potential setback like this.....anyway, I realize life happens and you could be in a car accident or something else catastrophic, but seriously, this injury was totally avoidable and actually rather tragic to happen to this guy sadly.....anyway....stay safe and stay well.
