It’s amazing how once you really start diving into Waylons music and watch his live performances, you realize this guy was head n shoulders better than everyone else. And I love all the great legends, but for me, Waylon is easily the greatest. The charisma/stage presence, guitar picking, the voice. Wow.
Nicest guy I ever had the privilege of knowing. Waylon was my neighbor from 1996-1999 and was even nice enough to invite my parents (huge waylon fans) over for lunch with him and Jesse. My parents are in their 70’s now and we still talk about that unbelievable time we got to spend with Waylon and Jesse in their home.
Everything!!!!!! Haunting American music. For the Every American living the dream, through good times and bad times. Can't steal that memory from me Obiden and Pelosi. Now hiding her husband's DUI with injuries.
Man i love Waylon! Everyday I get off work crack a cold beer and turn on Waylon radio! Great way to unwind a hard day or a bad dont matter Waylon will make it better!
I love Waylon so much I had the OR staff play his music while I’m being prepped for both my hip replacement surgeries. Then my orthopedic surgeon made the remark “This makes me want a beer” I was suddenly rethinking my decision.
Waylon Jennings was the first man who made me realize why girls like boys & vice versa. I was barely a teen when I developed a crush on him from seeing him on TV & listening to his music. From that point on, I always seem to like the guys that were a bit rough around the edges. He was an amazing talent, plus a very attractive man with a ton of charisma. Jesse Colter was a lucky lady.
1980’s. My grandpa always sat under his gazebo in spring/summer. He had a radio with a cassette player. If the cardinals were playing, well they were playing. But when they weren’t there was one cassette, Waylon. I was 14 and I asked is that the only cassette you have? My grandpa was 80 and said “Waylon is a bad mfer and he’s got diabetes too.” I miss Waylon and Grampa.
This man taught boys of the 70s and then teenagers of the 80s how to act like men. Something today's artists can't do. God bless ya Waylon!! Rest in Peace.
Amen! I’m 24. Weird time in America. Blessed to have a good family and grew up around my Grandparents and Uncles. I miss my Great Grandparents. God bless your generation.
Jason Aldean: biggest poser there is on the "Country Music" scene. The guy was performing during the CIA/FBI False Flag Vegas massacre (YES: it was the CIA and FBI that committed that massacre !!) , when the shooting started . He ran off the stage - which, no one can blame him for , it was his PUSSY , BITCH ASS political stance as anti-2nd Amend, afterwards that makes him look like a total bitch, IMO.
I will turn 70 in June and this music still stirs my soul. When I was young, I could not understand why my Dad listened to Hank Williams Sr., Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, Johnny Cash, etc. I went through my own metamorphosis as a teenager in the late 60's to early 70's, listening to Iron Butterfly, CCR, BS&T, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap and Paul Revere & The Raiders, The Animals, etc. If it was a phase, it never stuck with me. In the 70's / 80's, I listened "some" to Waylon and Willie but was not an avid fan. In the 80's / 90's, my tastes in C&W music turned to Larry Gatlin, Charlie Daniels, the Oak Ridge Boys, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Brooks & Dunn, etc. After Sawyer Brown, Travis Tritt, Chris LeDoux and Toby Keith, I lost most all interest in the "New Country". I cannot relate to it and (for ME) it feels to "rocky & rappy". Now, approaching 70, I have come back to the music of Willie, Waylon and the Highwaymen along with the C&W music aforementioned. Isn't it funny how time and age changes our perspective of life and our tastes in simple things (like music)? I will be just like my Dad and stick with the "old stuff" I grew up with, nothing new will be as good in my eyes.
This song reminds me of a pretty blonde blue-eyed girl on a Greyhound bus . I was running from the law and she was on her way to visit her old man in prison , I was high on cocaine and crazy as hell got off at the next stop and went and slept in the woods
There will never be another Waylon that’s for damn sure but happy guys like Cody jinks and whitey Morgan are around to help carry the torch of great country music
Totally, I agree, the best version, and no one ever gonna do a better one! Notice not a lot of covers of Waylon’s hit songs? .... cuz no one gonna do it better ....
Waylon & his music are associated with some of the best memories of my childhood. He was my dad's favorite, and largely the reason for me becoming a musician. When I was a kid, I met him & the drummer backstage in SC and they gave me a set of "Hands Hickory" drumsticks!
Wow!!! This is absolutely amazing. Classic Country is gritty and real. These boys weren't pretty and fancy. They were real country boys with insane talent. Thank you Mr. Jennings. I feel blessed that my Daddy introduced me to real country when I was a little boy in the 70s. Thank you Daddy. RIP
There was. It was called "Crazy Heart" lol. Kind of but, yeah. I doubt Hollywood will ever do one that will give it justice. The fans know the truth. The rest is just conjecture.
This is a band....they love and trust each other....and waylon is the boss of it all....it cooks, it works....and since they play off each other it hits hard
Growing up in Phoenix, and him living here. ,he would just show up at rodeo dances ,sit in and play for free.Saw him about 10 times and his live stuff is off the charts.A true musician
The last of these incredible musicians is gone. The great Richie Albright passed in February. Breaks my heart. I thought he'd always be around. Waylon's right hand man. The man that when people asked Waylon what to do, Waylon would tell them but then say, "If Richie says do something different, do what Richie says." That's how much he meant to Waylon. RIP to this whole band.
I was a very young boy when my mother would play these records while she cleaned house. I can remember even then thinking this, this is what I want to be!! I’m not famous by any means, but boys, I’m infamous!! Nothing like playin a Waylon song in front of a crowd. I regret nothing!! 😊 Thank you Waylon!!
I met Jessie at the Imperial Room where I was both cocktail waitress and bartender in the 70's. Great lady she packed the house. We had 2 top entertainers per month like George and Tammy. Every week we ran someone from Nashville all week long. Great place, wish we still has a place like that...waylon the best
@@marymontgomery1657 We have a club called “Stampede” where I’m at and they get some good old schoolers through there. I’m 49 now and the 60’s 70’s and 80’s country will always be my go to, but Waylon will always be my favorite!!. A couple years ago my wife did something really sweet and bought “An Outlaw and a Lady” by Jessi and would read it to me out loud in bed before we went to sleep. Like a book on tape but better lol. I bet you’ve got some awesome stories!! If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend the book!
@@donniekraus1273 .... Look what Elvis did to women ..... it's just the way they affect you. I'm in my 60s and I remember when Aaron Tippin came out woooo wee. He was hot 🔥 whew Conway mastered the growl and Aaron mastered the howl.....😉🥰
Really he was super underrated. He was actually a hell of a lead player. Was also one of the first country players to use any effects other than the fender spring reverb on the amp. He wasn't using anything crazy, just a phase 90 and a chorus but it gave him a tone that was different then the normal super clean Nashville sound of that era.
@Casey Jones when I got the pop up saying that you didn't see it here I was going to say it was at the time he may have been on a three or four day run. then I just read the rest. His oldest son Terry said the only reason he watched the Duke's of Hazzard was to listen to his Dad dido the balladeer and he could tell by how gruff his voice was how long he had been awake
Waylon came in to Nashville and upset the natural order of things. He brought a tough, funky vibe to country music in the middle of the “Nashville sound” era. Like a bad ass biker uncle showing up to the fancy wedding.
The band snapped on Lonesome, Onry and Mean. You can tell they loved that song. It still amazes me that Waylon was deep in the snow but could still give a great show.
I never knew that. He had diabetes, that's why he acted different. You know hw lost his legs one at a time and that's what killed him, Are you even old enough to know he was sick , not from drugs.
@@cyndeemiller9695 Waylon’s very best music was made during his coke years. He did clean himself up on his own in later years. Had a 1500$ a day habit for a couple yrs. Been a Waylon fan since 10 years old, Goin on 40 years now. He has # 1 spot all to himself. !!!
Had the privilege of seeing him one time at the Summit in Houston. All my friends but one laughed. She and I were friends until she passed away. She was one of the few who got it, and my weirdness. 😓
I was there too Waylon was 1 of the 1st country singer I would really listen to guess I was about 13 in '75 when I started listening to country always a fan of Waylon
By God I am presently listening to Waylon in 24! Damn sure was in 23 and every day of my 44 years. I shall be listening to Waylon, Hank, Merle , Sonny&Bobby, Lester&Earl, and the awesome Johnny Horton till the last breath of life exits my dirtbag. Stanley Brothers Dolly
Waylon was the greatest singer and he loved to play see him years ago he was in Texas he was in concert with his gorgeous wife Jessi who is also a great singer. Living Legends
This is how I remember Waymore. Breaking out on his own with that giddy up guitar and that whump whump beat and those vocals..woopwoop. Waylon brought it all together and owned what he started.
This is good stuff, going from playing base with buddy holly in Lubback Texas back in 1959, to going out on his own in country music. Ole Waylon had a good ride. Blessings
Waylon Jennings was indeed one of the greatest musicians in country music and rock music also, his passing was very sad, his voice and that electric guitar of his, a true cowboy, this song, Ramblin' Man was one of his best, also, good hearted woman, etc, what a legacy he left, God bless him forever, AMEEN...
That propulsive sound! I don't even like country for the most part, but I love Waylon. I think it was not just the firecracker band, but he was capable of irony in his music. He didn't sing happy la la bullshit.
This is next level stuff....I'm no "country music" guy, but can appreciate good music of any genre. There are quite a few classic country gems, but fkn Waylon....dude was on some other ish.
This might sound strange, but he has the most masculine voice in any genre, even more than Johnny Cash. I used to watch the Dukes of Hazzard, just to hear Waylon's narrative.
Lean and mean Waylon. He owned the 70s. This man was a one man revolution in country music. Let’s be honest. He was “outlaw country” He started it. He was one of the premier artist of that decade. Rip hoss.
When he messed up rambling, laughed at himself, then was quick enough to recover in a song that rips as fast as Ramblin Man does, it just shows how sure of himself he was on stage at that point in his lifw
@@skyler7548 Back then they all had their own style. It wasn't all generic like it is today. It's become hard to tell one from another just from listening.
@@matthewzdarko433 It's astonishing that we had Chet, Roy and Glen Campbell (and several others) all shredding it up at the same time.Even the rockers would stop and watch them play. And Waylon definitely had a unique style, you know instantly thatt it's him when he's picking. Hard to imitate, too, at least for me.
@@matthewzdarko433 Plenty of awesome country artists from today and some of them are damn good pickers too. Just have to look harder for them. Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers, Colter Wall, Billy Strings, and Sierra Farrell just to name a few
I'd like to thank RU-vid in Google for bringing this wonderful music country western to all the people that love it God bless America and they will all be brothers and sisters
