This absolutely made my year, my decade, hearing this. OMG! This era of Wayne's playing is so brilliant. I saw this band twice in this timeframe, once in DC when they visited Blues Alley and once in a gig in Baltimore. Years passed by and I just listened to whatever live recordings I could find to chase that dragon to hear this again. Back then, they just killed it..and this recording captures the amazing accomplishment this trio reached so well. Thank YOU for documenting this.

I'll take a swing at the set list. You all know that the naming of the various bits of composed elements used for the improv framework is an inexact craft. There are 7 distinct pieces here, some having multiple fragments. This period is just amazing, using the Long to be Loose (LTBL) writing as the launch for the later style we know. And some of the fragments show up all through the 2004 and later period (e.g. classic Marble Maker theme). This set is amazing. 00:19 "six" (YBL) 09:34 theme that got added to: 11:52 "(although one began" (LTBL), "#6 track 4" (LTBL score, section "E"). 17:13 "What they were written about" (LTBL), "#8 track 7" (score) 17:47 theme "Shirts Off" (2DM) 22:57 theme "four five" (YBL) 24:40 theme somewhat similar to "Outpost+" (GM) 27:16 "What they were written about" (score section "C") 28:21 "a friend's DAT machine makes)" (LTBL), "#2" (score), "Marble Maker" (GM) 38:52 Three Pager (YBL) 42:41 "not consciously written about" (LTBL), "#9" (score section "C") 45:15 theme from score section "B". 53:15 OK, this is some wonderful writing I don't recognize. Someone else is going to have identify this one. Will update comment. Help?

Oh great concert! The last one at 53.15 they played here in Sweden at Sthlm Jazz Festival, think it was 2000. I have a recording of that which I should put out or give to Wayne.

And it was crazy because directly after it was Zach Danziger hitting the same stage with Tim Hagans….

It was the best time to be seeing music in nyc. This band defined the entire scene. I probably saw 100 shows including this. Best part of my musical journey. Joe Strummer, Mike Gordon, John Mclaughlin, Bela Fleck, and countless others came. It was truly the best.

Great post, for some reason I'm just now seeing this, and great comments here from like-minded folk. I'll add a little that I have. Is this date accurate? 6/22 would have been a Tuesday not a Thursday. I could not find the flyers for June or July on Wayback. Here''s the copy from the August flyer, and by September 2,9,16 they were back at the 55: THIS SUMMER... a RARE and BEAUTIFUL EVENT: nyc USA july 31/aug 1 knitting factory edinburgh SCOTLAND aug 6 festival marciac FRANCE aug 8-9 festival oslo NORWAY aug 11-12 festival london ENGLAND aug 13-14 ronnie scott's brecon WALES aug 15 festival

oh hey uubuuh! i can't personally confirm the date, seems like 7/22/99 would have been more likely if i had to guess since that is a thursday. but we may never know for sure. this bootleg has been floating around various places with the (unlikely) 6/22 date.

I went to a lot of these Thursday shows at The 55 Bar to watch Wayne Krantz. Les Paul was at The Vanguard a lot during that time as well. Great times in NYC!

I’ve got about 300 bucks worth of sets from Wayne’s site from late 2004-2007 or 8 and some other stuff if anyone’s down to trade or wants I have some pretty magical stuff when I fell brain deep into this around that time
