This theme started playing once the player character's goast(sic) began ominously laughing. Because of that, I wondered if it was supposed to represent the boss's fear of you, instead.
Upon further listens, though, it's probably just good timing paired with Mayumi's status and nature as the head of an army.

The soundtrack comes from 東方鬼形獣 ～ Wily Beast and Weakest Creature, the 17th Touhou game. Featuring Reimu, Marisa, and Youmu as playable characters, the game centers around equippable animal spirits and a temporary hyper mode corresponding to each spirit's abilities.
