Addicted to love is so good, forgot all about simply irresistible and loved looking for clues, remember listening to that album many years ago, thanks to your channel I am reliving some very good times
Robert Palmer was O.G. Classy. When every other rock star was wearing ripped jeans or biker leather with wild or long hair he kept it old school. Clean cut, shaven and a suit. Pure class!!!!
Robert Palmer was the lead singer of a super group made up of two members of Duran Duran and the drummer from Chic. The band was called POWER STATION and you should listen to their song SOME LIKE IT HOT. The drums are INSANE.
The record company at the time wanted Palmer to have "hot chicks" in his videos. He wasn't thrilled with the idea and took it ridiculously (and ironically) further instead--featuring many women, all with essentially the same clothes and makeup--looking like "hot girl" clones as a running joke across 3 videos, released in this order: Addicted To Love, Simply Irresistible, and I Didn't Mean To Turn You On. The happily-married Palmer was once asked in an interview if it was difficult keeping focused around all those sexy young ladies....he immediately said "Nope. I prefer a woman who is more Rubenesque". BLESS THAT MAN. Want more? Go earlier--Looking For Clues, Every Kind Of People, Bad Case Of Loving You. Great stuff!
Let's not forget when he teamed up with guitarist and bassist of Duran Duran and Tony Thomas when they'd formed "The Power Station" and performed songs like "Some Like It Hot" and the T. Rex cover "Get It On(Bang A Gong)"
Back story: These women, back in the day, were all models in Europe. The core group would club together and that dance move was something the did at the clubs. That is also how they met Robert Palmer. Anyways when it came time to do a vid for this song he asked them if they wanted in; they did. Don't know which is which but two of the girls helped put all the girl's moves together and rope in few more friends in to fill out the ranks. Also, the guitar solo was a paid gig done by some professional female guitar player. However we never saw her. She did not fit the model mold and refused to be made over for it. Hence the close up.
And to dispel the idea that maybe the guitarist was just a dude in a dress playing, at the very end she droops down a bit and you can see her boobs to remove any doubt :)
Actually that's not quite right. Robert didn't know any of the models, the Art Director for video hired them and had the whole concept already. Robery just came in and stood in front of them. He said the whole thing took a half hour
Were they the same women who sang and played violins in Chromeo's fabulous song "Night by Night" live on Dave Letterman's show? Sure look like the same.
“Addicted to Love” is the complimentary video Shania Twain did a video using the same set up called “Man, I feel like a woman”. She had all men backing her up
Addicted to Love is a great song. It came first and Simply Irresistible tried to piggyback on the success of the visuals from Addicted to Love. Both are great songs and memorable videos.
I was hoping they would do "Addicted to Love".. to see how similar it was to Shania's "Man, I feel like a woman".. as many folks were pointing out a month ago
Robert Was A Fan Of Marvin Gaye,, So He Decided To Do A Tribute To Him Combining 2 Of His Songs,, ROBERT PALMER "MERCY MERCY ME/I WANT YOU"..A BEAUTIFUL TRIBUTE..R.I.P. MARVIN & ROBERT
Always liked Robert's stoic aesthetic. Looking straight into the camera. His expression rarely deviating. Tailored, classy duds. Perfectly coiffed hair... but that dude had that sort of raspy, soulful voice and could SANG. Even the chicks behind him were unbothered. Lol! It was different. Loved it!
He's a great artist, who has now sadly passed away, most of his songs are about love. Tracks to check out by him are; 'Bad Case Of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor)', 'Every Kind Of People', 'You Are In My System', 'Addicted To Love', 'She Makes My Day', 'Mercy, Mercy, Me / I Want You', 'I'll Be Your Baby Tonight', they are many, many, more but these are some of his best.
@@kevindobson3701 I like 'Sneaking Sally Through the Alley' (early one there), I love 'Know By Now' it's always been a favourite of mine for years, along with 'She Makes My Day'. I wish that people would look at his work more, most people only seem to know 'Addicted To Love' or 'Simply Irresistible' which is a pity.
What's also dad is he a bit even in the rock and roll hall of fame or there isn't even a bio of him out there , no documentary , not even 1 book on him , that upsets me more and Actually baffles me . He's the only artist that I know is ignored this bad
You'll have to include Joe Walsh's line(from "Life's Been Good") "I can't complain, but sometimes I still do..." - surely a line that applies to MANY humans.
I feel sorry for young people who never experienced going out to clubs dancing and singing our hearts out with all these types of music, it was such Fun!
Addicted to Love is just like 'simply irresistible' same models, older song Bad case of Loving You. After these songs he partnered with the brothers from Duran Duran and Tony Thompson to form Power Station and they had 3 or 4 songs off their only album as a power group 'some like it hot' and a remake of 'bang a gong'
Robert Palmer really hit it in the 80's, but I think you guys would really enjoy one of his earlier tunes "Every Kind of People." It's got a good message for today, and every day before and after.
Hey Sweet-Babies!! You all reacted to Shania Twain's MAN, I FEEL LIKE A WOMAN!, of which she copied Robert Palmer's idea of the Background theme of LIKE-DRESS Backup Dancers, but were Men! The song of his THAT YOU TWO should React to is CALLED, "ADDICTED TO LOVE! Robert's background Dancers were basically like Shania's, Man, I Feel Like A Woman! You two WOULD R E A L L Y L O V E that!!! You all REALLY NEED TO REACT TO THAT!!! I Love You 2. Nyaa!!
When that video was criticized for being sexist (in a time when almost All the videos were sexist and at least his were funny) Palmer came out with the one above, just doubling all the ''offenses" of the first one! The songs were so fun and so good that no one could seriously object! RIP
Remember how you LOVED Shania Twain's "Man, I Feel Like A Woman?" Watch Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love," and you'll see where she got the inspiration for the video. :) Love you guys.
some of the singers , such as Robert Palmer dressed up and looked better in comparision and others didn't bother what they wore, and yes Bryan Ferry always dressed sharp as well
When MTV first came out with the greatest music of that time, the videos were killing it. It was so new and crazy to watch your favorites bands perform with awesome choreography. They were “Simply Irresistible” to watch. Great song. So fun.
"She's so fine there's no telling where the money went"". He respected soul and black artists, and I love his voice, it's so good!! Love the humor in it, too.
Check out Enya for Female Friday or any day. She has such a good voice. She composes her music, and she plays piano, so you will definitely like her, Jordan. She has a lyricist, but she writes lyrics, too. I love her songs with and without lyrics. Check out one of each, since her songs aren't long, like some Rock songs. Only Time A Day Without Rain
Orinoco Flow may have been overexposed back in the day but it is still a classic. Good Catholic girl who apparently used to come back home every Christmas and sing in the choir at midnight Mass. Also not sure if at one time she was the richest woman in Ireland.
Robert Palmer was the James Bond of R&B.. he was a really introverted englishman and a scholar of some kind, very quiet kind of dude but was strongly influenced by blues and r&b.
I saw Robert Palmer live in 1991. He was great (RIP). Many of the women in the audience dressed like Robert's girls, complete with hair in buns and the red lipstick.
Robert was one cool dude and one heck of a nice guy too. R.I.P. You will love I didn't Mean to Turn You On & Addicted To Love which have the great dancing, oh yeah
The greatest thing here is none of these ladies are CGI They are all individual women, A wonderful song , , simply irresistible Pun intended God bless you all
I'm from Kingston Ontario. And i just found your channel. I was born in. 1953, the best music ever. From the Beatles, to psychedelic, Stones, you name it our generation dug it.
Robert Palmer was the original renaissance man! From his early rock/blues stuff with Vinegar Joe, he moved seamlessly & successfully through every musical genre. I loved his mellow, soul stuff from the 70's. Double Fun is one of my all time fav albums!
Robert Palmer was the lead singer for a group called The Power Station which included Tony Thompson from Chic and the Taylors from Duran Duran. Check out their songs Some Like It Hot and Get It On. He's a thoroughly entertaining singer and plays many instruments also.
"Addicted To Love" and "I Didn't Mean Turn You On" also used the "look-a-like" models. The theme started in the "Addicted" video as the models were miming as the band playing behind Mr. Palmer. Then in the "Didn't Mean" video the models were not only the band but the production crew and dancers. "Didn't Mean" is my definite favorite song of the three although it was not as commercially successful as the other two.
"Every Kind of People", " Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley" both from the 70s. His 80s solo stuff is great in a different way. "Looking for Clues", "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On" , "Addicted to Love". Y'all did T Rex's "Get it on (Bang a Gong)". Palmer got with other greats to form The Power Station and covered it. Another great is "Some Like It Hot".
Robert Palmer was big in the 70's. He made alot of great hits back then. One of my fav is " Sailing Shoes , Hey Julia , Sneaking Sally Through The Alley " . It's 3 songs in 1 and a MUST listen !!!! 🤙🤙. He was also in a band back in the days called " Vinegar Joe ".
This song takes me back to when Mtv was literally just video after video after video... that was it, nothing else. Classic. You should check out some Steve Winwood songs from that era “Higher Love”, “Valerie remix”, and “Can’t Find My Way Home”
This & Addicted to Love is Robert Palmer in his prime during the 80s. My favorite music from him came back in the mid 70s when he collaborated with the legendary New Orleans band, The Meters, on the trilogy masterpiece, Put On Your Sailing Shoes - Hey Hey Julia - Sneaking Sally Through the Alley. These songs have to be played together to enjoy how the funky vibe builds to a crescendo!
As a hundred people have already pointed out, this is the artist that inspired Shania Twain's video "Man, I Feel Like A Woman". If you watch the video "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On", and "Addicted To Love" by Robert Palmer, you will be more able to see the similarities,
One of the funniest posts I ever read online was/is in the comments of the original video. Some guy posted that if you looked really close you would actually see Robert Palmer. LOL
Sneaking Sally Through the Alley is another great song look at-fun & funky! He was pure class. Dressed to the nines and gorgeous to look at. Very talented. Got to see him live in the late 70's in a small music hall, incredible show.
First time seeing you guys and i LOVE you both.. Seeing you get into this song the way we all did back in the day.. Love seeing you guys move.. I was moving with ya.. You guys are AMAZING.
This video was basically the sequel to the video for "Addicted to Love". In that he had models pretending to be his backup band and it made something of a splash. It's iconic now. So in this video he kicked it up a notch almost spoofing himself. Robert had one of my favorite voices. I think you guys listened to "Bang a Gong" by T. Rex. He and the Power Station did a cover that is awesomesauce.
A lot of people suggested Robert Palmer’s videos because you guys liked Shania Twain’s “Man I Feel Like a Woman,” which mocks Robert Palmer’s “Addicted to Love.” Gotta watch it!
Would love for you two to react to some ABC. When Smokey Sings. All of My Heart. The Look of Love. The lead singer has some serious pipes and there's a lot of orchestral sounds and guitars, which you said you like!
