As an Aussie I am puzzled as well as appalled by USA's apparent headlong rush to a dystopian state. I am puzzled because it appears from various judge's reactions that this new SCOTUS pronouncement is a law which is deemed to apply retrospectively to Trump's actions while he was President. Our basic legal principle under the Westminster system is that laws are not automatically retrospective and I read no mention of the latest SCOTUS ruling being an exception to that. Therefore this ruling should not apply to nor delay the current legal proceedings regarding Trump's prior actions. Yet there seems to be widespread acceptance that there is retrospectivity of this ruling applying to the court cases currently in train regarding actions performed during Trump's Presidency which finished 20 Jan 2021. I am also puzzled and appalled that a country with which we have several longstanding alliances appears to be essentially under threat of self-destruction from the very institutions which are part of the fabric of all three arms of your government. I am unclear as to what the expectation will be now of Australia in the event of incidents of domestic US terrorism committed as a result of official orders issued by a sitting US President. At what point should we invoke the provisions of ANZUS as we did after 9/11? Or are those provisions of ANZUS, which has been in force since 1951, negated by this SCOTUS ruling? Perhaps we now need to rethink all the other programs, arrangements, alliances and treaties we have with USA like AUKUS, the Quad, US/Australia defence, Pine Gap, banking, FTA and FDI etc.

What’s scary is that these people have been holding a grudge since the Civil Rights movement and now they’re angling to restart the apartheid state and subjugate women.

I will never vote for Trump. President Biden needs to act like our leader, protect the American people and take the necessary actions to defeat Trump. I have supported my President, it is time to stand tall, strong and firm and take decisive action to defeat those who are threatening our country on our land. It is not a time for weakness in any way, shape or form but to fight fire with fire and make some hard but vital decisive decisions and ACT.

We need a 13 seat SCOTUS now. Afterwards, we need to change a lot about the SCOTUS and its term limits and ethics rules.
