Würzburg is my hometown. Come back in spring or summer, it is beautiful here. You have to visit the "festung Marienberg", that's the castle you've seen from the alte Mainbrücke. Also the Residenz and the Hofgarten is really beautiful and worth a visit. If you're interested you can contact me for a few tips for your next visit 😊
Yeah, Steinburg is a must see, the view is amazing and it's the perfect place for a relaxing walk. I live right below it in Unterdürrbach and everytime I'm up there I appreciate it.
Rule of thumb: if the inner city is modern and ugly, there was a bomb raid during ww2. The one of Würzburg was in March 45 by the RAF. Gladly Würzburg decided to rebuild many of the old buildings as they were before.
Würzburg is a beautiful city steeped in history. I was particularly impressed by the model of the destroyed Würzburg from WW II. If you go to Würzburg again in summer, I recommend a short detour to the Fürstenbaumuseum. That should be frightening, especially for Americans, who fortunately have not experienced any bombing destruction of cities themselves.
Würzburg was almost completely destroyed during WW2 but very nicely rebuilt. The famous bishop's palace (Fürstbischöfliche Residenz) with its painted ceiling was saved by an American officer who had his men cover the ruins with tents. In the park of the palace, there is the grave of the most famous medieval German poet, Walther von der Vogelweide. The Romanesque Cathedral (Dom) with its two towers is the oldest building in the centre.
I was stationed in Wurzburg Germany. In the US Army. Emery barracks (kaserne). I lived off post in Zelliingen. I have a lot of good memories from Germany. I met a lot of people and made a lot of good friends there. I'm 67 right now and would love to go back and visit. I loved going to the Kiliani Festival. Miss those good times.❤
Hi, good overview and yes, you need to come back in the Fall and spend a couple of days. The Festung Marienberg is cool and you can also visit Germany's largest wine barrel where some of the local "Frankenwein" comes from. You don't have to drink any wine to appreciate it😏 And sitting out on the bridge over the river is also more fun at that time of the year.
Hey! Nice video. We also love Würzburg. I think you missed the Residenz. It's an amazing castle in the middle of the city with a famous garden in the style of Versailles. I love the inside of the Residenz and would love to see another video. I love your comments on german culture. To see someone exploring the country I grew up is interesting. It's a totally different view and I like it. Do you know the city "Miltenberg"? It's a beautiful middle age town on the river Main - about 40 kilometers away from Würzburg. I live right next to it and I designed a tourist app for Miltenberg. I could show you the town, if you want. :-) Have fun by exploring Germany.
Ja!Würzburg ist toll! Ich lebe hier😍...Danke für eure Begeisterung🎉 Nächstes Mal die RESIDENZ nicht vergessen! Und macht eine Weinprobe 😉🍇! Alles Gute!!!♡
Hey! I caught this video right away this morning! My husband studied in Würzburg and had lots of jazz concerts there and in the surrounding area, so this brought back great memories and made me smile! You must visit again in the Summer and see some of the vineyards. I know right - isn’t it great to get spicey food sometimes? I love cigköfte for that. I‘ve only ever had tacos in Bielefeld until now. Have a great day, everyone!
Happy you like Würzburg. For me the highlight is the fresco painting in the old bishop's palace (Residenz). Be careful what you wish for - in summer you will hardly be able to move
You won't recognise Würzburg on a warm and sunny day in the summer, this city is one of my favorites of all German cities. The place to get the perfect view is "Festung Marienburg" (best light during early afternoon hours). My favorite late afternoon activities are enjoying a takeout pizza from the pizzeria located at "Alter Kranen" and enjoying it on "Mainpromenade" followed by having a beer at the tiny but cosy "Biergarten am Main". And yes, the "Alte Mainbrücke" is crammed with wine drinking people from around 15:00h on Saturdays (I've never been to Würzburg on a Sunday, so the masses might head there earlier).
You guys are just so awesome the way you appreciate every little thing around you in your new homeland. It's wonderful to see you are able to have a great time even in they grey of winter, how you are mindful of the culture and history and learning so much. And then Willa. She must be the luckiest girl to be able to experience all this with you at such a young age and she seems to to be soaking it up like the cutest little sponge. Keep going, keep exploring, the world is your oyster and we love to be with you all the way.
Würzburg is the most beautiful city in Germany (according to my very subjective opinion, as it is my hometown) :D I really enjoyed watching you appreciating it so much. It has so much to offer, I've been living here for the majority of my life and still have things to do, places to visit etc.
A visit always is worth one's time I'd say. But there are many other German cities worth visiting of course. Keep up your wholesome attitude, very refreshing.
That's so cool. I live in Würzburg and I always was thinking about that you might come but never believed in it. And know you are hereeee You should have gone to the residence it is UNESCO and so beautiful or the Festung Marienberg
Hey again guys! I'm actually from Würzburg! please do come back in the summer - the biergartens here are great. Also if you like Falafel - there's a place called "Frida Döner Zellerau" and they make amazing wraps with Falafel. They are very small and only in Würzburg so you'd be supporting a local Restaurant :) Oh and do check out the "Residenzgarten" and the Park behind there, it's called "Ring Park" which has an area called "Klein Nizza" (pretty Japanese plants / trees and a playground)
Our town is absolutely stunning in Spring and Summer time. One wine festival after another, with people roaming the streets and sitting by the river - it's magical.
Fun fact: Frankfurt in is also called "Mainhattan" cause of the Main river and well at least Frankfurt had a kind of a skyline ;-) The Rhine river btw. was also used centuries ago to transport logs of wood from the black forest up to the Netherlands. I really enjoy watching your videos. It is kind of funny (and a bit sad in the same way) that I as a German often forget how beautiful German cities are. Once it is common and you're getting used to the cities you start lacking of seeing the beauty of the cities. At least I do to be honest.
You really need to come back. Walk up to the castle and enjoy the view over our beautiful City and dont miss to visit the residence, where you find the largest one piece fresco of the world, painted by unique master Tiepolo. We also have some really nice playgrounds for little visitors.
Thanks for the suggestions! We do plan on revisiting so we love the specific recommendations. 💛 If there’s one specific playground that is the best, let us know.
@@OurStorytoTell try playground zeller strasse, 97082 Würzburg. It's located at the bottom of the fortress. Or make a boat trip to Veitshöchheim, visit little castle and enjoy the beautiful garden, then take an italian style icecream and go the the playground, directly beside the river .
Würzburg reminds me of Prague, if anything. Especially the Old Stone Bridge looks like the Charles Bridge in Prague with the Castle in the background. And oh Tacos in Germany: I use the Fuego taco seasoning and tortillas. It tastes just like the Tex-Mex we're used to! (Look for it in EDEKA.)
The famous staircase in the Residenz is a jewel you have to have seen. BTW logging used to be main way to transport trees in North America before trucks were used on a large scale. That was before your time, but there are still movies with big stars centred on this.
Oh, I found this video by coincidence and Wuerzburg is my hometown as well. I was just there in October 2021 and loved it so much. Can't wait to go back this year. It is a super cute city, so much to see and do and yes, in the summer it's amazing
While winters in Germany are cold and rainy, instead of walking around, declaring how nice it probably would be in summer, why don't you, in this time of the year, try to discover Germany more "from the inside" with more indoor-activities? There are some great museums even in your area, like in Nuremberg, Bamberg or Würzburg with a lot of items from all periods of German history . Beautiful treasures as well as objects of everyday life, from medieval times until nowadays, showing how life used to be inside those buildings you only admire from the outside.
@@OurStorytoTell Australia! come on down and get some onya! Usually spend 3 months every 2 years there. Only part not seen fully is the Black Forest. If you ever decide to go back to America, your child will be in the top 2 of her class.
I love the way you are loving Wusbueg, grew up in the outskirts and met many Army members and civilian Amerikans who were stationed in Unterfranken. Thanks to all of the gentle people from the US and for the little English I learned from them. Nice Video, lovely mom and kid.... Lucky Man. 👍❤️
Visit the fortress in Summertime. There is a terrace with a great view across the river. And don't miss the new residence of the bishop (build in 1800) downtown with it's beautiful garden.
Thank you for your wonderful videos! They always make me smile. I love hearing about all the different towns in Germany. I hope and pray I can get there someday since my mother was German. Of course, I always love seeing what little Willa is up to. Looks like she really enjoyed some Mexican food, also. My prayers are always with you.
You should definitely check out the Algarve in Portugal. End of march or start of april is a good time to visit as it isnt as crowded as in the summer months but its already warm
We have been there, but it was before our RU-vid days. It was our “baby moon” when we were pregnant with Willa! Such a good recommendation! We loved the area 🤩
@@OurStorytoTell Awesome you have been there. Definitely a destination for a second trip in years to come. Had many goosebumps moments on multiple trips there.
O yes....you have to come back in the summer....so very beautiful. Also walk the lovely park of the Residenz Würzburg. You are getting closer to my hometown of Coburg, the hometown of myself and also of the husband of Queen Victoria of England, Prince Albert of Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha. In Coburg also takes the biggest Samba Festival outside of Rio place. The best festival of all of Germany ❤. At least if Covid ever goes away again.
The second place I stopped on my first trip to Germany. I LOVE Wurzburg!! Across the bridge is a fantastic restaurant under the chestnut trees along the river. I fell in love with Germany then and there. Coming back this September from Canada.
Happy to hear you have a trip planned to visit again! Such incredible views all over the country really :). Keep us posted on where you are going and what you end up seeing!
the reason i love würzburg is that you‘re kinda in the middle of the country, so nothing is TOO far away. it‘s small enough that it is easy to navigate and truly feels like home but big enough to find everything you need. it‘s rich in culture, history and art, but also has a lot of young people since it‘s a college town. truly an amazing city
Okay this sounds like the perfect description of why someone should live there! We agree it was amazing when we explored, but we want to come back to experience more!
I agree. I love the beautiful city of Würzburg, but Passau is equally beautiful. Located at the confluence of 3 rivers, the Inn, the Donau (Danube) and the Ilz. Always had a good time there.
That's my hometown, but in living there no more since 3 years, thats a wonderful city and i love it to see it every time again, hope you enjoyed it, in this city u can see so much and eat too🥰🙂
Würzburg! ❤❤❤ Next time you have to try the "Bratwurst" from the "Bratwurststand Knüpfing" and the fish of "fish & more Schreier" at the market. Best! ❤
Glad you finally made it to one of my recommendations. Definitely come back in the fall. Ride your bikes along the river. Schweinfurt to volkach for example. Use all the little ferries to get across the river. Check out all the little towns on the way like wipfeld for example. Eat some zwiebelplootz try some federweissen. Your life will never be the same.
Wow thanks for visiting my hometown I've been living in since my birth 🤩❣👍🏻 It always amazes me to see places on youtube I usually go through without thinking about them. And as I've seen it lot of times in the comments here , come back in summer , definitely! It'll be absolutely worth it!
Like you said, you have to come back in the summertime! It's even more beautiful when the sun is shining, everything is green and more people are out on the streets! :)
Probably the structure of many German and probably also many European cities comes from the way or place they were founded. Sometimes it‘s around a church or around a castle or where trade routes were crossing rivers or two trade routes were crossing one another. So then often farmers from outside of the cities had to come into the city like it is still today, to sell their produce. So every city needed a place for trade aka as trading places (with Eddie Murphy, Dan Aykroyd and Jamie Lee Curtis) 🙂
I was looking forward to seeing you explore my neck of the woods. My wife loves Würzburg, I find it too crowded. Very pretty city though. I recommend you try a boat trip from Würzburg to Frankfurt. You'll get some really nice views that way. Alternatively, Mainz to Frankfurt by boat is pretty awesome as well.
If you ever visit Frankfurt/Main go to Fonda de Santiago. They have very good mexican food. And as you mentioned river cruises are a very nice way to enjoy the landscapes, cities, villages and castles along the Main, Rhein, Mosel or Donau. And if you have a fondness for old towns... Try Bamberg (thankfully very little destruction during WWII), Freiburg (and spare some hours for Straßburg on the other side of the Rhein) and Lübeck (not only for lovers of marzipan)...
On a sidenote: Besides Würzburg being an awesome city, it is also the birthplace of basketball star Dirk Nowitzki, who played 21 years in the NBA and is one of the quirkiest and beloved players in the world.
The advantage of winter : it`s getting dark soon and many of the beautiful buildings , like the castle or the residence , are illuminated . By the way , from the Hubland.University area up on the hill you have a nice view over the town and the castle on the other side of the river.
Guete oobe zemme! und das ist die Heimatstadt meine Schwagers Würzburg, und das Gebäude ist Wünderschön besonders sehr Traditionelle und wir waren gerade Vor der letzten woche...
Y’all should try Crazy Nate’s West Coast Mexican in Nürnberg. Super awesome, family friendly, and good west coast style Mexican food. And the frozen lemonade is delicious.
Looks awesome, too bad it's so far away. One of the reviews said, "If you miss the 80s and the skateboard scene...." which is funny cuz from the photos, I thought I was too old for the place. No one in those photos could miss the 80s cuz they weren't born yet: ) A restaurant with trivia night and board games on the tables? And a self-serve salsa bar? Wow.
Well, there are Black Forest trees under Amsterdam and they have been in their ships, too. Thought it is/was common practice all over the world. Reminds me of the old tv series🤔 : The Beachcombers.....
You really have to check out Dresden, IMO the most beautiful city in germany, even though they speak a different languague there (Sächsisch - just a weird accent nobody likes lol) its a german city. Semperoper, Altstadt, Zwinger, Frauenkirche, beautiful small vineyards with small mansions, all next to the elbe wich flows through dresden (just to name a few things) also if ur interested in History theres alot of stuff to see. If u havent been to Dresden you havent seen Germany. Have a great day and fun exploring new Cities :), theres alot to see!
Nice to see people coming from far away, falling in love with my birthplace. The hospital that I have been born in back in 1969 is just located 20 metres from the Main river shore.
Oh, yeah! Wood on the water! :-) Very easy way to transport the heavy wood back that days! Where I live (in Bavaria) there is a so called "Trift-Sperre" ("floating lock"!?) near by. It first was used back in 1729 and could hold up to 100.000m² of wood coming down the river. Great invention! It would still work today, but is not in use anymore! :-) Very next to it is a tunnel through a mountain as the water was locked, too, and had to float somewhere else ... as it isn't used anymore, you can walk through the tunnel where you get to the same river again, but where it flows into the opposite direction. Very strange feeling - kind of! ^^+gg
I would also suggest you to check out german "fleemarkets" -->"Flohmarkt" in german. Maybe you like them. Often the bigger cities have one maybe every saturday or once a month. Fleemarkets are places where everyone could offer parts of his household which has no more use for them but maybe for you. Often there are little treasures between the items. Even if you don´t buy anything the exploring of this places is everytime lovely. And Würzburg is also just 100 km away from my hometown Miltenberg. It´s a smaller town but also worth a visit. To your comment with the flavors of the taccos. Often some ingridients or additonal preservatives are not allowed in every country. That´s why also McDonalds could still taste different in other countrys and so also tacos ;)
Hi guys, I've never visited Würzburg only had a view from the Autobahn while coming from the north and heading either into the Allgäu via Ulm or into direction of Stuttgart. Thanks for your city tour. I am sure, I know the area with vinyards and more green looks much prettier in summer and for your next visit, dont miss Bamberg if you havent been there yet. Just an hour away with a very nice Altstadt and so many impressive architecture as well. Yes, churches are always so impressive and may I ask you if you havent been inside one already ? Dont be to shy, some are open daily and not open only for catholics or lutheranians. Do you know that you have visited one of most american famous basketball players hometown ? Yes, its Dirkules. I still remember when he was in young age, a tall, a giant skiny guy with very white tan, a young teenager when he was invited into a sports TV for an interview after he has signed his first contract to play in the US. Just read that corona restrictions will be eased up starting on 20th march, right to the time when dark, grey, cloudy misty days will turn into colours of spring and more sunshine. In my garden more and more crocusse come out and bring the first spring colours. Birds are already very excited early mornings and concerts of birds voices starts. I fully understand that your mexican food didnt fully match which you know from your favourite places in the US but as I realized at least you enjoyed. Thumbs up.
Hey thanks for such a fun comment to read. You’ll have to visit sometime. We have entered into many churches but often times we don’t film because we aren’t sure if it’s allowed or not (or just choose to not). They’re amazing! And yes the Mexican food was still enjoyed! Different than normal, but tasty! Also we have explored Bamberg & we loved it! Check out our first impressions here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mvJwPcSJbIM.html
@@OurStorytoTell Well, just as you say, I've seen the Bamberg video and also commented. If there are no signs VERBOTEN You can try, at least you can ask if a responsible person is around. If somebody else does, do as well, just give it a try.
I live in Würzburg and love my city. Würzburg is pumped wirh culture and history. Btw if you want to learn a thing or two about german history there is a museum in the Festung Marienberg.
Great Video of my hometown. Nicely done! But guys, you missed the Residenz… 😩 it’s UNESCO world heritage and was used as a film scene of the movie „The three Musketeers“ starring Orlando Bloom and so on.
If you guys are in the Kaiserslautern area sometime try Benjis Burritos. Best Mexican Food i' ve ever tried outside of the US. Chef is from California and makes authentic stuff.
Hey there, i was born in Würzburg and raised there close to in my childhood before i went to BC to life there with my fathers family. Würzburg is pretty awesome, exspecially in Summertimes. I am surprised, that american visitors usually don't often visit the urban areas to the eastend where the major campus is and (feels like centurys ago) our american friends of the US Army where on post and housing before Pentagon gave allmost all baracks up in northern Bavaria. Btw: the church with the "double towers" is the #Dom and for sure the most ugly church in Town (from outside). Greets from Schweinfurt, 40km North of Würzburg
Mexican food in the US is what Turkish food is in Germany. More than once I heard Americans say "doner is the best food Germany has to offer". Makes me smile every time and makes me hungry at the same time.
Going to Würzburg for tacos. That's something. Würzburg is the hub of the Franconian wine district, which produces some of the best wines of Germany, if not the whole world. Maybe you should try one of the famous traditional wine restaurants next time you go to Würzburg.
@@martinstubs6203 Wenn jemand nicht trinkt, kann man schwer seine Meinung ändern. Ich trinke auch gerne mal ein Glas Wein, obwohl ich anderes bevorzuge. ;-)
A lot of the so called Mexican food in the US is Tex-Mex and different from the Mexican food in Mexico. I recommend "Taco Chronicles" (German: "Die Geschichte des Tacos") on Netflix. A good shop to order Mexican kitchen basics in Germany is "Hola Mexico".
@@OurStorytoTell in Würzburg u should go to the Festung Marienburg or to the Schlossgarten -> in Sommer and winter, its so so beautiful in the Schlossgarten. (Sorry for my bad english)
Hey you 3! I live close to Würzburg - and I liked your video. When you come here again, I would love to show you many more beautiful spots in Würzburg and the surrounding Villages! Just leave a reply and tell me when you ever come back here!
