Spoken like a true OG, I saw Trey’s speech at the weigh in an damn he’s got some balls to handle it an strike around like he did, says a lot about his character! Keep it up an stay grinding Trey! Big fans of both Trey an Uncle G!!
GMAN, I was a local spectator on day 3 at this tournament. Believe me, we were all very proud of how Trey handled the whole situation. He had the guts and the attitude that made many of us proud of that young man. He is a fine young man. We were hurting for him as well. You are a fine example of a class act in the sport as well. Good luck to both of you, keep up the good fight !
The sad thing is he could have called his insurance company and made the change that day. What a dumb rule to disqualify. Shouldn’t bass have a blanket policy anyway? Btw, I work for an insurance company.
As hard as it is to get to where he is at I hate that he was taken out by this small technicality. On another note Gman I've had people ask me if I could fish with anyone on the pro tour who would it be. Hands down it would be you ,I could see myself laughing my a** off all day. I would probably have to wear depends cause I'd probably laugh so hard I'd poop myself.
BASS has its rules, and they should without a doubt believe and trust that every angler understands and follows the rules. Following the rules should be the pride of the anglers. But its the responsible of BASS that when someone breaks the rules, everyone should know, that's where the trust come into play. Its the responsible of anglers not to blame someone else when it happens. When a rule is broken by accident or unintentionally like in this case, everyone knows, when a rule is broken to get an advantage, it seems to be un-announced . BASS losses that trust when they keep it behind closed doors, and it disrespects anglers like Trey.
2007 classic it happens you know what it feels like, you weren't trying to gain an advantage either, it happens sometimes it's tournament fishing and it sucks, I've been DQ'd, for getting out of my boat on shore, I didbt know but, I should have, it cost me, mistskes happen I feel bad for tray I know that feeling it' just makes ya sick 🤢.
That kid is going to be a force to reckon with, like you said it's just a mistake better to happen now than at the Classic because that's where he's headed.
We all make mistakes. I've only spoken to Trey a few times at Water Front Tackle(GTO). As I can tell he's a stand up guy. Hold your head up high Trey. As a High School Boat Captain for my son's school. (DAR ) We are required to have Insurance on our boat. For now on I'm going to make sure I carry proof of it!
Trey handled it like a pro...He hung around and supported his friends...he has a long career ahead of him. It's a shame I'm sure for all parties involved. An expensive error but with his talent will be a drop in the bucket over the course of the next 20 plus years.
G Man I fished the ABT and Bassmaster opens myself and Bassmaster requirements are different and like you explained if you never spent the time money and preparation it takes to just go fish an event like that let alone compete at that level and with all the pressure little things get missed. For Trey to handle the situation like he did is unimaginable and impressive to say the least. Me at 49 years old would have blowed some ones hair back over a rule that has in no way given the kid an advantage but cost him a once in a lifetime opportunity or experience is unjust. Keep your head son you have my respect
Hated to hear of the disqual. That being said everyone who fishes tournaments whether they be big or small has made a mistake. It happens but we learn and move on. Never listen to the ones who want to badmouth you in their righteous indignation. They can’t compete with you Trey. What happened is just a hiccup on the road to your success.
Sure did check my liability coverage after this, and I'm sure many others have that fish tournaments. A hard lesson to learn but maybe he helped a few from the same heartbreak. He handled it with class. Keep grindin Trey
They let him fish for 2 days. The third day wouldn't have hurt nothing. All the paperwork could have been taken care of later. Chances 2 win don't come along everyday. The lesson here is don't overreact to a situation that isn't a crisis.
Every young man who has a father figure like you should be very fortunate. GMan I’m proud of how you have molded and formed Trey as a young man and angler you hold your head high.
Good words Gman. Everyone makes mistakes. I’ll bet he don’t make that one again. I agree that BASS needs to require proof of ins when registration is received. That would prevent things like this in the future.
From what I’ve heard your nephew handled the situation better than 99.9% of people would have. Props to him and to your whole family, he was raised well. Like Forrest said, “it happens”. Keep moving forward
Very very well said buddy. I feel bad for him but G man they are not anyone out there that hasn’t made some kind of a mistake. Just learn from it and move on. My grandfather told me that if you don’t learn something everyday you just wasted a day. Love you guys and be safe.
I got popped the night before at the meeting for ABA.I had 100k,but they said I didn’t have enough. So here I went scrambling!Thank god for great insurance agent!Got it cleared that night an won the next day.Thank god they checked me that night or I would’ve been in Treys shoes.Keep ya head up an keep swinging young man!G your a fine man for explaining this stuff! I try to help these local high schoolers around here by example.I’ve only learned how to set that example through watching guy’s like you!👍🏼👍🏼💯
The Gman is hurt. But is holding his tongue. Trey broke the rules. He will learn from now on to cross your T's and dot your i's. When your young is a great time to learn from your mistakes. All it does is make Trey a human being. Make something good. Out of something bad. Stay positive Trey. The next time you Win! It will be even Sweeter! The competition in BASS fishing is incredible. Lick your wounds. Reflect! Fix the problem! Move Forward! God Bless Gerald and Trey. For being top notch people! Shawn. Shawn.
Why wouldn't BASS use it's big purchasing power to negotiate a deal with Progressive, to have a standard policy that all competitors could purchase at a discount. Come ON, BASS, get it right!
Everyone makes mistakes, it's how you handle the mistake and learn from it that makes the difference. Thank God he learned from the best and handled the situation like a professional, many others would not have been so gracious.
There has to be a better way than the current.....it's kinda squirrelly the way its done now.....its kinda like ....surprise!!......if ya know what I mean 🐟🐟🐟🐟
I totally agree that all insurance policies should be turned in when we register for the tournaments. Just for every anglers safety! Hate that they DQ him!
I don't have to tell you, but be proud of yourself and where you are. G is absolutely correct a LOT of the people saying stupid crap has never been where you are. Stay humble and keep ya head up.
I have no issue with them not letting him fish the last day. He should still get credit for 10th place in my opinion. Blowing up his entire season seems extreme to me. He broke rule, he didn’t cheat. There’s a huge difference.
Class ACT Period. Situations happen in life we all are human mistakes happen you learn from them and move on. Hats off to GMAN. and his family. In my opinion, BASS needs to check all or check none.
that's nuts check it at first of year for all anglers. ok if your insurance goes out before then end of tournament you just show bass or mlf the new policy.. but if it was not enough then it was not enough for all year on all tournaments.. SHOULDN'T BE DQ FOR THE TOURNAMENT MY LORD.. BETTER A FINE LIKE hey you would came out better if u got the insurance cause fine is 3 times that amount so on so on BUT DQ NO WAY NO WAY
So I'd dig into the reason behind the 300K liability coverage. It's should be based on past liability claims. So what are the claims for the last 20 years?
Well said G! Keep your head up. In boxing and in life, you don’t lose when you get knocked down. You lose if you don’t get back up. Head up! Y’all need insurance help, hit me up, I can write TN and AL.
Hate that happened brother. Rules are rules . You are right my man. Even though it seems unfair it's not. He is a great angler with a bright future. Put this in the past folder and file it. When he makes it to the top. He will be able to know he earned it. Love seeing my fellow Alabama anglers in the mix. Lay lake is home for me.
Trey you can and will win tournaments. But I promise you that doesn’t define you your character speaks volumes not wins Stay strong. Uncle G. And your friends And fans got your back.
All them boys an girls talkin crap like u said AINT PLAYED THE GAME and don't have nore KNOW what it takes to fish in an event that big! That's a lot of pressure on ANYBODY to be that far away from home towing a boat, being responsible for everything from the headlights down to the trailer lites and everything in between fishing in an event that hold 200+ people in it.. and being on top of every single thing with every T crossed and I dotted.. and then to be in 2nd PLACE that far into the event already has u trying to keep ur head from spinning off ur shoulders! I'm proud of him. It's a learning lesson, and he'll move past it and his career will go as far as he puts the work in to for it to go... He's got s bright long future ahead of him. It's good that sonthibg like this happened to him his first year out so it won't bite him in the future when more is on the line.. hold your head up proud buddy .. just learn and move on and keep it moving!, They call them mistakes for a reason. And you learn from them mistakes! It's all good.. keep on keeping on . Youre times coming,, 😎✌️💪
Man you truly are a class act!! I hate it for Trey because I know he's worked so hard!!! I think it's a learning experience for everyone!! It wasn't cheating though like it was made out!! I remember your DQ and thought that was bs!! For people that do it everyday it wasn't dangerous!! I use to work in the oilfield and its dangerous but because we are all professionals and make our craft to not be!!
I like what you say G. Personally I don’t understand how it is that BASS doesn’t verify from the jump beforehand in my opinion they need to do their due diligence!
When the king looked into the fiery furnace and saw the 4 instead of 3, and the 4th looked like the son of God, it didn’t say, the 3 saw the 4th. Trey, when people saw you in the fire, they saw Jesus, in how you handled it. That’s a testimony in you! Proud of you bud.
Your Uncle G is right, Hold Your Head Up Trey honest mistake and he's also right about if Bass would have checked all 200 I'm sure they're probably would have been more but nothing to get down about move on to the next one when we mess up take it as a life lesson correct it and move forward. I'm following Dre you got a bright future in this game and you got one of the best mentors you could possibly have
G-man, If I move to your neck of the woods, would you adopt me as a family member? Don't want anything other than having access to speaking with you on a regular basis. You, sir, are more than a class act.
It's a rule, he broke it, he paid the price now he's moving on. As a concrete contractor I carry a million plus policy that I have to provide proof of all the time. Its part of the game. It's poor bookkeeping on BASS
In my opinion this is something that should be checked in the pre-tournament check in. If it's such a big deal then that boat should never be launched if the proper amount of coverage isn't there. This shouldn't have become an issue on Saturday morning. I love BASS but the system for checking this is just plain wrong.
If anyone know how he feels Gman it’s you. I remember when you was a young angler young also was disqualified in a tournament if I can remember you was in first place or second
The first thing I thought of when I heard it, was you!! .... I know that Trey's success means the world to you, and that you would be heartbroken. I had to give up a "W" due to a DQ , so I know the ramifications first hand .....keep your chin up Trey .....you handled it gracefully.
Rules are rules. They should check everyone. That would be like only checking two live wells before blast off. Hope it lights a fire for him being he was doing well.
I'm sorry this happened to Trey, dang details seem to slip up on ya'. I know he comes from good stock and he will get on past this. It will be a great Grandpa, old fart story haha!
Shit i didnt know they required a specific coverage i dont fish tourneys but do have insurance couldnt tell ya what the liability coverage is do know the boat is covered lol
Trey showed he is a class act like his uncle. The way he handled it was so impressive and he will see an exponentially increase in his fan base. I hope that translates to sponsorship. I know it is a rule and I am a big rule follower. However, I believe that if this is a requirement everyone should be required to submit before the tournament. Also he got no competitive advantage in the tournament for this rule. It is my opinion it should have been a monetary fine and not a DQ. G thank you for your words. Trey hold you head up, we are all watching and pulling for you!
For this to result in a DQ is about equivalent to G getting a DQ for running past randy Howell “too close” . Take an anglers panel at the end of the day. If a large percentage votes against the usually accidental decision then carry out the DQ. If they vote to support the fellow angler in an accident give them a penalty and let them keep on fishing the tournament. Trey fished his butt off and deserved the opportunity to advance to make a much needed check in this tournament and I agree these rules are Stone Age. Decisions like this could make or break a young anglers career and I personally do not feel like a DQ was warranted in this situation. Hats off to Trey for handling the situation like a true professional. And also hats off to uncle G for addressing the situation, to the fans and to trey like a true professional.
With so so many other things going on during the course of the tournament! And all the stuff prior I could see it overlooked ! But if I'm not mistaken ! The insurance he had that at the beginning of the year ! So I'm assuming he fished a few other events without the proper amount of insurance! But he was not cheating or trying to gain a advantage! Garinteed it wont happen again ! Peace man ! Next year is another year !
This kid will be a elite angler one day . Take it to the bank .. he's that good and ill.bet ya he going to fish these last opens harder than ever before . Look.at Brandon palaniuk got a DQ for culling violating comes back wins next event .. trey gman and all.us true fisherman got ya back pal .. go win all.the last ones . .. semper fi trey
