@@FrugalQueeninFrance 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 great video. I missed the Q&A. Would have asked if like myself you still live with “the fear” even though everything is going right, you’ve got savings, and are comfortable. Always feel no matter how secure I am on paper, I’m always uncomfortable and nervous. Especially when world events that trickle down to us financially have already given us all a kicking in our living costs. Would be nice to just “breathe”. But suppose that edginess never goes away.

Your attitude (and I am sure that Mike is the same), is not to moan about circumstances, but to buckle up and work on solutions. You have a well balanced life, and it is something that you have created, it wasn't handed to you. Well done.

Always single, and I did all the things you mentioned. Although I did go to university. I had marketable skills, and worked in industry on weekends and time "off", whilst teaching full time (+department head, additional marking, etc.). Make hay while the sun shines. Head down and make money, because there's no one else to please (but also, no one else to make more money, share expenses, etc.). I had my side business, and worked 7 days a week, for 14 years, and invested in land. Then I stopped my side hustle, and continued teaching till retirement. When you're young and healthy, work hard, and invest wisely. But I think married people have the upper hand. Twice the income, not twice the bills. Plus, someone to talk to, etc. Young people should get married, when it works it's a great asset.

My husband had a mentor when he started in his career (he was about 24 years old) and he told him to immediately start putting into his 401K. No matter how small the amount! And it was the best advice he received. We retired at 60 thanks to his advice!

Hi Jane and Mike. Some great questions and answers there. We're all in different financial situations, but with one thing in common, that is to keep our heads above water. No, I wouldn't fancy going back to work again. I would rather continue with my frugal life and be happy and stress free. Liked your trade answer. I was told that a good plumber can earn as much as a surgeon, which I can believe. So handy to have a trade, which hopefully more young people will look towards by seeking out apprenticeships. Thank you both. 🤗

As a former teacher, people are surprised when I encourage young people to seek out trades instead of going on to college. I am glad to know I am not alone in this! In the US, the push has been during my lifetime that everyone needs to graduate high school and go on to college. College isn't for everyone, and I know many smart young people who have gone to trade schools and make solid incomes while classmates who went to college are in massive debt. Lastly, the little "sweater girls" at the end are absolutely (as always!) adorable!❤

In relation to food costs I also think food choice can be detrimental, eg steak vs chicken. If necessary ppl can eat beans on toast or lentil soup as you suggest, instead of bacon and eggs or roast lamb. Even if it's just temporary to help pay off a debt, for eg the one with the highest interest. It may mean no hobbies for 6 mths, no new clothes for 12 mths. It depends how serious your situation is or how determined you are (gazelle intensity as Dave would say.)

I follow Dave R too, even taught the class, I am in agreement with you about putting away the $100 a month when you start working full time, I think its good for a few reasons, one it will show a young person how easy it is to forget about how much is in savings and let it grow also it builds a healthy habit and age 20 instead of trying to start saving at 40 or however old you begin, Living Lcchain, is a jewish podcast and one of his Rabbis said invest in something, once a month, no matter how small

I agree with your view of Dave Ramsey and retirement savings. His advice is only really sound in that instance if your behavior change really sticks. It took me a couple of efforts over the years to be successful with the baby steps and get out of debt. Had I not invested in retirement during that time, I’d have lost out on so much! The compound growth is just too important to skip out on.

Your answer to the French politics question was clear, thoughtful, gracious and discreet; you are a class act! Which also shows in your plea for compassion towards ourselves in our guilt about past mistakes. This applies not only to the financial ones. I think not going to university would possibly be one piece of advice I'd give my younger self, though I doubt I'd have listened. Didn't matter so much then, mind, with full grants etc, but more and more I'm afraid I see the university system, and making more and more jobs and professions degree only, as a racket which traps young people into debt, wastes their time and makes them largely ill-equipped for life. PS, I shall try very hard to think of a question, as I really enjoyed this video!

Interesting talk and exchanging thoughts from everybody. I think those who are a couple are in a better position! Two incomes. Wherever a person choose to live,work,save- check first the standard of living and how expensive is to live in those places. But Realistically. No la la land. To save is the key-nothing new. Just life became waaaaay more expensive than years ago. As you said, mortgages are much more difficult to be received. And it's getting harder globally to pay it off. For those who received it. Plenty do not and have no chance to. Good luck to everyone. People will need it more and more. Thank you for the video. 🍀

I know people with kids and they make enough because they are so driven. That motivation is non-stop rolling their ball forward. Of course not everyone is the same. And with average incomes it will most likely be quite tough. Ahhh,is complicated, isn't it? In a perfect world.....yeah I know, you know,we all know. Nice topics to exchange our opinions anyway. Check the colleges for their courses and get assistance from the government to graduate with a good trade. Trades are well paid in Australia 🇦🇺 with good job opportunities but university graduates 🎓 are finding the HECs debt 💸 can be a lifelong nightmare. One young woman recently spoke on TV 📺 about collecting a 63 AUD thousand debt for a psychology degree but before she can practice a 2 years internship must be completed - without salary. Then the transmission went out on mine that I have driven for 22 years. His old truck was bought new in 1996. So we have 2 car payments plus insurance higher than what we did have. Hello Mike & Jane.. I have several collectables. I collect vintage and homesteading cookbooks, vintage kitchen items mainly kitchen mixing/ serving/ utility bowls and i also collect coins and very old bills currency. Those are 3 of my loves of life. Im 60 yrs old and living of disability. Its become difficult sticking to my budgets when i run into a collectable pieces. I end up borrowing from one off my other funds to purchase the collectible item. Then i pay it back at the beginning of the month to the fund i borrowed from. Basically this Pay back has become another bill for me to budget in. Should i just stop collecting my 3 interests? Im also trying to bring myself to get rid of a lot of my "stuff" as i have so much in boxes that i dont have room to store in my little apartment. With all that said what would your reccommendations be? I really value your reccommendations ❤ much love 😊😊 and God Bless you and mime as well. You are agreat inspiration.

I actually have another question, though of course feel free to read out other people's given you've already chosen me. And you might have addressed this in the past and I've missed it. I'm just wondering about quality vs quanity. So, do you and Mike "splurge" on some items, whether thats food or clothes, because you know they are of a higher quality/standard (and will last longer and/or be better for you) or do you opt for the cheapest option, even if it might not last as long/be the best option? In the uk private pensions get a top up from the government depending on how much you put in. Plus income tax exemption got a certain amount because you put into your private pension and even giving to charity. They can tell how much you donate I'm assuming because of gift aid. So the government give 25p per £1 you donate and give you a tax exemption through your yearly income tax exemption 😊
