Maybe he meant type of person. I mean there are some people I wouldn't like to hear. Like Lance, most of the time he's on that snotty attitude. Even Alex's teammate is a really nice guy, sadly he's not performing
Such a nice, down to earth guy. A lot of people in this situation look like they want the interview over as quickly as possible but Alex looks like he just enjoys the chat
@@choiswimmerThere's an old video somewhere with Kimi Räikkönen and Matt with Shell & Ferrari, Kimi looked like he was having a blast and we all know that man does not fake.
Ricciardo seems like the most fun driver to get beers with, but Alex always seems genuine and like your buddy from school that "made it" but is still just the good dude that you grew up with.
I feel Albon is one of the more insightful drivers during his post-drive interviews, be it post-quali or post-race. I hope he continues to find more pace in the Williams.
He definitely says how he feels about things in the interviews and not just the standard "yeah we really maximized the performance today". Hoping the Williams gets up there in the next couple years as well.
In case you've missed it and want some amazing insight, check out Lando on the 2023 Monaco post race show (if that was the race with crazy weather, not sure of year).
Albon is a sound lad. Always nice to hear an F1 driver call out the F1/FIA b.s. and that the carbon footprint of F1 is not really being down to the cars.
I’m sure the Mercedes power plant PR team are going to send Williams a strongly worded email about keeping their drivers on script after he said that. The whole spiel about pollution reduction and blah de blah is tied back to marquees trying to sell road cars so they need to draw a line for the consumer between what they see on the track and what they see in the show room. Personally I love that Albon went there. The hybrids are engineering marvels, but they make the cars too large and heavy. Bring back straight turbo ICE on 100% renewable fuels and for the love of god bring back refuelling so we aren’t bored to death watching whale cars lumbering around the track for half the race like GT cars. We have DRS and other mechanisms in ‘26 to improve over taking so the whole argument about passing in the pits is null and void.
I'm a fan of the "why not both?" approach, I guess I'm in the minority but the technology of the efficient powertrains sets F1 apart from a lot of other series where I can shrug because the technology is decades out of date or barely there, and there's gotta be some tech trickling into road cars because we're starting to see ERS-H equivalent turbocharging in sub-hypercar production road cars (new 911 Hybrid) which is still a great driver's car and proper 911, but absolutely agree the overall footprint of the sport is where you're going to make the biggest impact. Overall think Albon is tops, he's got a good head on his shoulders and is entertaining in and out of the car.
No one claimed the carbon footprint of F1 is down to the engines. The only people who do are the anti-environment “anti-woke” guys like “you’re driving gas guzzling engines”. But engine manufacturers want eco-friendly engines because they can transfer that technology to their road cars. Which does help the environment more than switching to V10s for no reason.
Man these interviews are just so much better than any other F1 media. Just F1 drivers being normal people nerding out about their stuff here and there. solid good stuff
Shoutout to Alex calling out F1 for their at best sorta fake commitment to a cleaner environment, and putting forth the things f1 could do and yet doesn't for the environment.
I agree completely but also makes me sad that Williams is now a smaller team, such history. They have the talent with Alex, James and behind the scenes and whilst I understand money is an issue, it's less of one with the cost cap so it pains me to understand why
@@jamesmarlow971They just last year went from inventory on spreadsheets to a proper database. Give them a couple more seasons with Vowles and Albon and whoever they can bring on board and I strongly believe Williams will be back.
I think it's more so about who is conducting the interview, what platform it is and what's the environment like etc. Cause even Carlos's interview with Matt and Tommy was incredibly insightful and relaxed, he was very candid.
Idk I don't feel like max is terribly curated. I think it's more of a personality thing. People who are comfortable with who they are will be genuine while people figuring out who they are will be more careful and try to crowd please.. it's a lot more nuanced than that though because being "comfortable with who you are" is a blanket statement that covers tons about a person, and isn't always an accurate description anyway.
What a great interview, just makes me like Alex even more, no corporate speak, no arrogance, he was genuinely relaxed and honest. I always hope Williams do well and really wish them luck on their journey to the front.
It’s such a good point on the engines. There are 20 cars doing what, 200 laps? While there are 200 transports 4 jumbo jets and 100 busses shuttling all the stuff around. Stop pretending the engines even matter
I think it's about public image and setting the trend. It's a bit like Earth Day when we shut the lights off for an hour. Does the power plants shuts off during that hour? No But in the way, it's about raising awareness for F1 and the teams.
It would matter if they used stock blocks. The engineering would actually be relevant instead of barely derivative. Win on Sunday, sell on Monday. That is what everybody has forgotten.
It all matters. If sport watched by everyone and making billions can't even manage to go carbon neutral then we are all doomed. If f1 can synthesise high performance fuel from green energy then I'd be in favour of that. Off-setting is mostly a scam
Alex is forever the driver I root for outside of my team because he just seems like a decent human being, bit of humor and sarcasm I appreciate, and just fun to root for him getting into the points. Lovely interview.
In our gaming discord everyone has made fun of me warming my cereal milk first and now I’ve been sent this clip of Alex Albon calling me a psychopath. You can’t make this up LMAO
Love Alex, one of my favorite drivers and just human beings on (and off) the grid. Have watched soooo many of his random podcasts, always a really solid person
Brilliant interview I'd love more of these for other drivers although Alex has to be one of the best most honest drivers to interview especially his last comments on hybrid engines he's absolutely spot on
I really love Alex being interviewed! The conversation is so light, fun and relaxing! Not so much of a by the booked answer. So spontaneous! I got the chance for a meet and greet with him in Singapore and very very nice guy!
I really enjoyed this interview. Alex is such a nice guy, i agree with what said and i wish him the best. I became a fan of him thanks to the interview so thank you Matt!
Albon always did the nuttiest overtakes. It was so frustrating when everyone misconstrued his "they race me so hard" quip, as mid-backfielders, especially sister teams, don't bother to waste time fighting when one of the top three teams rolled through.
As a Canadian, that car behind you holds a special place in my heart. As does Alex as he seems like a great guy. I hope he can get a ride that he can compete with soon!
He's gotta be my fav driver on the current grid overall, and wracking my brain over the past 15 years of watching F1, I think he's gotta be my favorite since Jenson Button.
Part of the ethos of F1 is that it serves as an avenue for development for car manufacturers to figure out how to make use of various technologies before bringing them to mass market. Now, we can discuss how effective it's been in that regard till the cows come home, if that's their justification for hybrid systems/renewable fuels, then it seems like a valid one. I think it still remains true that they should focus on become net zero overall, and not brag too much about how low emissions their racing cars are. And none of that greenwashed tree planting bs. We want genuine action that counters f1 emissions, like funding renegerative agriculture, afforestation where it makes sense, funding the deployment of renewables in developing countries, all that good stuff.
I would totally revamp the points system to where every car that finishes the race gets some points. The way it is now the differentiation between the bottom 5 teams is fairly random and not very accurate. It would also create some real battles during the race for the P11-20 finishing positions.
I was really surprised he said to get rid of the "hybrid stuff". I mean he's right but that was pretty bold considering that f1 is all about that "commitment to the environment" while flying across the earth 10 times a year.
The fact he clearly understands that the overriding issue with F1 and emissions is not the cars but the travel makes it so clear that he is a practical person. Bringing back the naughty engines won't destroy the planet but doing Saudi, Miami, Italy, or Baku, Singapore, USA will.
Delighted to learn that he was a Schumacher fan back in the day; Schumi was my racing idol too but I never took my following of him so big that I wanted to have a red duvet or have my carpet red
Bloody love Alex, what a lovely guy. Great personality. So down to earth. Loved that he said "this might go off on a tangent"......errrr, Alex, we wouldn't expect anything else, lol!!
Love this! His final point is absolutely spot on, couldn't agree more. I hope after his racing career that he ends up in the governing bodies of F1 or FIA because he would steer it in the right direction. Until then, I am waiting in agony to see him on the podium again one day 💙
He suggests just one practice session - I think 2 might be needed so the rookies can get theirs in, and the regular drivers are still guaranteed 1. I think it's 2 required sessions over the course of the season, for each team. Maybe if they all had to be at the same 2 races (instead of team's choice), they could add a second practice session to just those race weekends?
