@@pookachu64 I honestly never thought of it in that way purely because that scenario is so nightmarish, but it would be quite possibly the greatest achievement in formula 1 history
@@IamQUUMing yeah but I’d rather that car be driven by two excellent drivers like Hamilton and Leclerc, as opposed to one excellent driver and one mediocre driver, because all that does is mirror the current situation at Redbull
especially when one of them will make him move to Italy, there's no way Newey, in his 70s or whatever, would want to move to a whole new country with a different language and all.
All major manufacturers are in F1 for marketing. Why else are they there? From car manufacturers, engine builders to tyre manufacturers. They put on display for the world that we are the very best at what we do.
more like bruh imo. despite all the success, and among the first to build a turbocharged engine, they don't see the engine department as an important thing lol
All the mainstream manufacturers are in F1 for the marketing purposes. That's no surprise. What is a surprise is that having entered in order to boost their marketing, they should be content with such poor results..
I get it having a team that is only there for marketing. But being there as an engine manufacturer, with a customer and tell that customer "we don't care". Bro... what the heck. That's insane. Even more insane because it was a customer that could win a championship...
If you want Newey, you need to bring the outfit to the UK. it's always been the same. The reality is Ferrari won't give him the control he wants, and will want him to move to Italy. Their loss.
This was actually reported in the media during the 2014 season, it's the same reason why James Allison left Ferrari after being there for a short period. Of course with Allison, he had a breavement so he came back to the UK and the later, joined Merc.
Imagine being so emotionally tied to.... England. I understand the family argument much more. But if you have to move somewhere and you have the resources, there's no better place than Italy.
Can imagine the conversation. “- So you’ll give me 100M and I still have to be on my knees to ask to go to the bathroom? - Hey… at least you’re working for Ferrari, no?”
Adrain feels so similar to James allision, both left but Allision did because he felt like W11 was peak F1 so INEOS cup America that he also won. Crazy to think W11 to this date 5 years later is still peak
There isn't going to be a faster F1 car than the W11 for a long time. That thing was an absolute beast. If you watch Hamilton's laps at Spa Monza or Mugello they are insane.
As a Honda fan to the death, things are looking mighty exciting around these parts lately 😁 Alonso+Andy Cowell+Adrian Newey+Honda+Aston Martin 😮 2026 here we come
@danielgreensides8463 Even if Newey goes to AM, Alonso will not win another title, he will be too old, also Ferrari and Mercedes are favorites to make a better engine than Honda
I don't think without Max Verstappen on their team they will be able to fight for the championships. Also building a fast car is one thing and keeping it competitive throughout the whole season is another and other teams have a very aggressive development cycle across the season bringing upgrades after upgrades to make the car faster, not sure I can say the same about Aston but I hope I'm wrong and they can challenge the big boys.
As a non-Ferrari fan, I really like to see him going to Ferrari this time. As a person who loves challenges, going to Ferrari is the biggest challenge he could possibly think of. Moving to Italy, working with non-native people and an environment will be the biggest challenge. Imagine we, F1 fans being able to witness F1's most successful team, designer and driver coming together win a championship. A storyline that would be worth making movie about lol. Also, it's way better than seeing Lance Stroll out driving talents like Hamilton, Leclerc and Verstappen in a car designed by Newey.
This is exactly why I don't think Newey goes to Ferrari. Newey has said it himself that he enjoys a challenge, what challenging is there at jumping into an already successful top team like Mercedes or Ferrari?
@@patepulkkinenvtec2403 Ferrari is a challenge still, especially their horrible treatment and politics. Remember Nigel Stepney? Dude was successful during Jean Todt era, but get undermined once they lost their influences and get screwed by Ferrari by forcing him in a undesirable role to the point that led to spygate.
I don't get how Renault thinks merely being in F1 is enough is terms of marketing, because all they do is suck. I've had that impression of Renault ever since Red Bull ditched their engines, and with the utter mess that is Alpine today, it seems nothing has improved at all. Furthermore, not only do they suck ass in F1, their Le Mans entries also failed miserably after just a couple of laps. Their participation in motorsport has only achieved to make sure they are completely off the list if I had to buy a car.
In fairness, its year one of their Le Mans effort in P1 not recycling or rebranding an Oreca LMP2 chassis so I wasn't even expecting it to finish purely because Mechachrome being Mechachrome. Their F1 effort however has NONE of that excuse with the amount of years they've been around yet continue to play marry go-round with the top staff as if that'll fix everything (Because blame culture totally worked for Toyota and Jaguar...oh wait, it did not).
Honestly watching F1 while this man is on the paddock is such a cool time to be alive. Along with Alonso and Hamilton, Newey is indeed one of today’s Formula 1 biggest legends ever to exist.
What newer fans wouldn't understand is that Newey wants to build a legacy more than anything. If he was in it for the money, he would've gone to Ferrari in 2006 and 2014. But instead he helped build a new championship winning team with redbull practically from scratch. Now he has the chance to bring back two team with rich heritage (Ferrari & Williams) to their former glory. However it would make more sense for him to turn Aston Martin into a championship winning team just like he did with redbull.
Yeah Aston is never gonna be a championship winning team. I think you get to the point where if you keep throwing money in, it’s gonna end in absolutely nothing especially not with the experience and expertise the old teams can bring in. Especially in this cost cap phase where all the big teams are McLaren, Mercedes, Ferrari are all spending the same, all have top of the line facilities already with top people who’s been in the teams for years who are able to promote within. Example Stella for McLaren and then you got Aston who is just spending money to try and get their crappy son a winning car. Since they started that season challenging Redbull ever since they have gone backwards and never challenged them again. Back to what they do best, being the midfield slop
So, I guess I'm the only one who thinks that he's just going to retire? I mean, he has already achieved so much at this point, he's got nothing left to prove. He can just go and enjoy himself wherever he wants to.
He did literally say in an interview that he doesn't want to lose his mental sharpness the way his late father did after retirement. This is a man that knows that the best way to keep the mind sharp is to use it, never mind his competitive streak and passion for creation. He's stickin' around.
@@mitchell-wallisforce7859That doesnt mean F1. He cleary disliked new rules and have to win anymore. He propably will accept a different sport or project.
@@deerlord2363deserve? So the most successful team and the most successful driver doesn't deserve him, but Stroll does? Hope he goes to Aramco, takes the oil money and it flops terribly.
Screwderia Retardi doesn’t deserve him. I don’t have a favorite team in f1 anymore but there’s nothing like watching those clowns at maranello fumble things up.
What Ferrari say and what Ferrari do are not always the same things. They lost face in not being able to land him after such a public chase, they'll say anything to make themselves look better.
Cant believe the amount of people who want Newey in Aston despite AMR being symbolic of everything that is wrong with F1. And not just F1, but the entire fall of the British automotive industry.
@@GameOver-nm2uscompare their track records. Every team Todt managed in every single category of motorsport (Dakar, Rally, F1, Le Mans etc) not just won. It every time obliterated the competition. He has the Midas touch. What has Vasseur ever won let alone dominated?
@yourproblemthesolution Vasseur won Hamilton his gp2 championship, so that's not something to be underestimate. It took Todt some time to win with Ferrari, give Vasseur the same patience and I think they're matched
@@GameOver-nm2us yes that's true, it took Todt several years to build up Ferrari into the juggernaut it became over time in the early 2000's. And I'm really not denigrating Vasseur's record at all, he's Scuderia Ferrari's TP, something we just dream about. So respect is due. However the GP2 championship for Hamilton has more to do with the driver than the team I think. And I'm not a Hamilton fan at all. Been an F1 fan since the mid '80's and my guys were Senna, then Schumacher and today Verstappen. Anyway, Todt's record is just incredible, compared to anyone out there. Also, he had what we call 'carte blanche'. He could do as he liked. Which Fred does not have. In Todt's day Montezemelo kept back and didn't interfere. Anyway, just wanted to share my two cents.
@yourproblemthesolution if the gp2 championship was more to do with the driver than the team then Vasseur wouldn't have berm able to convince Lewis to go to Ferrari, Vasseur won that gp2 championship as much as Lewis did. Todt only has a better record now because he's simply older, has been in the business more, and just has a more complete career as a whole
As a very loyal RB fan, I’m shattered that Newey is leaving, but how can we hold any grudges and wish him anything but the best. He’s been amazing and he’s always conducted himself beyond reproach. Talent AND Ethics both?? Face it. He’s a unicorn.
Newey leaving RBR probably had more to do with RBPT than the political chaos happening in the team right now. I strongly believe that RBPT is struggling to even create a half-decent PU for the next regulation (since Ford is only there as financial backing), which means Adrian is very likely have to relive the Renault nightmare again if not even worse.
Funny, when people point at the drought of succes from 2014 concerning Newey the 1st deflect one hears is, 'the engine was crap, but Newey was amazing'. Turns out it was Newey who forced a break with Ferrari in favor for Renault engine.
Yes, but the Renault V8 was decent and competitive. And its hybrid V6 could've ended up catching up with Mercedes, like Ferrari did, if they'd put some effort in.
@@halofreak1990Renault V8 was down on power to other players in the engine game and while it was slightly fuel efficient to others, it wasn’t enough to make up for not being outright leader. Ferrari V6 wasn’t good until maybe 2017/2018 so it would have been a wait until then.
Wait.. Mercedes didn't want to supply Redbull engines because they didn't want to be beaten by a customer team.. Well I'm sure they didn't expect Mclaren to be so good this year.
If he moves to Aston, I feel like it'll take some time for his impact to be seen. Alonso may be retired by then and it could be his replacement who thrives. Yuki Tsunoda might end up being the benefactor given his Honda links.
id argue it might be an immediate change if he understands regs differently from everyone else. red bull fell off hard as soon as newey got taken off projects.
Even Max was given a year at Toro Rosso, I cant help but think a year at a lower order team would have been helpful. Whether that would have been possible with Williams doing their own thing I dont know.
If he does go to Aston Martin then I hope it's because he's given the chance to influence their road cars. I'd love to buy an Aston Martin that was around 3000lbs and designed by Adrian. It probably won't happen and if it did I probably wouldn't want to spend the gigantic sum of money they'd want for it, but it's a nice fanciful wish.
If he stays at F1 maybe he decides to sign on a middle or back marker team. As he has achieves so much already and has fulfill many dreams (and does not lack the money), he might see that as a final personal challenge to gift himself with the accomplishment once again of helping boost a back team forward and would also ease any of his feelings of going to a "rival" team from his RB family or about having it too easy. Maybe the reason he has not confirmed for Mercedes, Ferrari or Aston is because we wants one last fulfilling challenge if he stays in F1. Who knows, maybe he surprises everyone and goes to Williams.
Ferrari rejected his absurd power-hungry demands which makes no sense to accept now especially coming into the new engine-dominant regulations in which aero isn't as significant as it is now.
When you're that damn good you can demand what you want, no loss to him because someone else will always say yes. Funny how Hamilton fans are now turning on him for daring to demand what he thinks he's worth like, well, Hamilton did.
@@MrSniperfox29 He is good and of course deserves every penny no denying that but no matter how good he’d be with Ferrari it’s not worth giving up that much power he’s asking for since his expertise in aero won’t hold the same power and effect on the cars’ performance as they do now. It just makes sense to invest all those resources elsewhere.
Adrian Newey didn't "need" the constraines of working for Merc (and Toto) or the italian divas......start something "new" without constraines (and enough money to boost)....man made the right choice.....as most times.
Would only be the right choice if Max joins and they get rid of Fernando and Lance. Max and Fernando won’t get alone as teammates, no matter how much of a love affair they seem to have in the media’s eyes. Lance and Max wouldn’t work either. The only way this move works is if AM gets Max or 2 different drivers then what they have now if they really are serious about winning titles. Fernando is great but he’s too old to put up a year long title fight, with more sprint racings and perhaps more Grand Prix being added to calendar. Lance just isn’t good enough to win races let alone a title. Yes Newey may be the best engineer/designer in F1, but if you don’t have the driver’s to get the best out of the car the whole season, he’s greatness won’t matter.
its sad that "all you need" for your F1 team is Adrian Newey and a Honda engine to be one of the top 3 teams. and i would dare to say with the right driver for your team you will be THE best team.
There is only two type of F1 person. One say “YES” to whatever Ferrari was asking because it’s Ferrari. The other says “NO” to whatever Ferrari was asking because it’s Ferrari.
It's a damn shame Newey choose Aston Martin because of Lance Stroll. It drives me absolutely insane that F1 has pay drivers. I thought Newey was more principled than that but I was wrong.
The Aston Martin tie-in with Red Bull F1 is why the Valkyrie came about, but predates Stroll buying Aston Martin and making it the brand of a rival F1 team. Knowledge of Aston Martin might be tempting Newey to turn down Ferrari for a fourth time.
Newey moving to Ferrari, or Mercedes doesn't feel right. Aston Martin might be the challenge he's looking for. Backing from Honda, the chance to work with Alonso and maybe Max again in the future or perhaps his biggest challenge yet. Make Lance Stroll F1 champion.
I am rather intrigued by that 3rd Ferrari deal. Had Newey taken that, i wonder what things may look like. What road going Ferraris would look like and would alonso have stayed?
Ferrari were fools to not give Adrian anything he wanted. If he wanted to rebrand the company to Adrian’s Ferrari Co. do it. The man’s a winner and Ferrari’s not.
I don’t think that they have the facilities to support someone like Newey yet. This was the issue with Paddy Lowe - he tried to run Williams’ tech department like he was still at Mercedes. Newey could design the most breath-taking and complex car on paper - but if the team can’t build it then there’s no point
Newey almost went to Jaguar. He and Bobby Rahal had good history and they had a deal in the making. BUT then Jag hired Niki Lauda and the deal fell through. Then Jag became Red Bull and Newey ended up there after all. Makes me wonder if Newey just didn't want to work with Lauda.
Imagine Alonso winning a 3rd title, retiring at 45 and Stroll winning the following year! Can you imagine the post race interview after winning the title "Lance you're a WC! How does it feel?" "Yeaaaah... it's nice I guess..."
The only f1 never talked about redbull brake system rulors and performance drop..its abvious that somerhing serious happening but still not a single word about it..there is other channels better than this one
Imagine being already a millionaire, successful and legendary engineer and you have left just a few years of work before retiring (so basically you already have everything you could wish for) and you decide to work for oil money and some rich daddy’s son instead of legendary teams like Ferrari/Mercedes or Mclaren
It's not all about the money for him. He wants what he had in RedBull which is the freedom and control especially with whom he works with e.g engineers. Ferrari isn't giving that to him but Aston is and is laying all out. Also the legendary teams you are mentioning work for oil money as well: Shell, Petronas, Gulf, and of course F1 is working for Middle East oil money as well.
In my opinion, Mercedes finally figured out their car so they don’t need him, this is the team that dominated the hybrid years when newey was in redbull and you can’t argue the engine cause we’ll look at Williams and how bad they were. Ferrari would have probably been interested but Fred isn’t gonna pay him millions and break his technical team up for someone who will retire in like 3 years. McLaren are already fastest/ 2nd fastest car so no need to change it up as the redbull hires they got already seems to be working out. I honestly hoped he’d go to Williams but Williams won’t be able to compete with the money Laurence stroll has especially cause they just spent all the summer budget on getting sainz and telling everyone how lucky they are and surprising it is the other top teams didn’t get him.
If Ferrari and Merc are out of the picture, I hope he just goes back to Williams instead of spending his remaining relevant days with Aston Martin and the Strolls.
Kind of sounds like Newey despite all the frustration with F1 rules package in the Redbull doldrums was too scared to make the switch to Ferrari. That deal, if accurate, to have full control of the F1 and road car programs plus 2x the salary sounds like what he wanted but the Redbull job and family was a safe known entity vs a huge change (everyone at some point as chosen the safe and familiar option over a change because of how daunting it seems at the time). I’m not blaming him for staying but I wouldn’t be surprised if some anxieties didn’t play a role in the decision making. Now 8 years later he’s making the decision to leave RBR, whether that’s for a new team or retirement it’s a new challenge and good for him.
Sorry if this is a novice question, but are there any other rockstar designers like him? Neweys movements are covered like hes a driver, is any other CTO that valuable? Is he marginally better, or head and shoulders above the competition?
Not as many now if you mean currently working. Of course there is James Allison. The team structure these days are more complex involving many positions, so I think there is less emphasis on that rockstar type of personalities. There are other current designers/engineers that are well known among the fans, such as Dan Fallows, James Key, Pierre Waché, Mattias Binotto, Andrea Stella. In the recent past, not a rockstar because he is more private and don't spend time the limelight, but Rory Byrne is also arguable one of the greatest F1 designer. He was chief designer at Benneton then Ferrari during Schumacher domination era. He is still a consultant Ferrari but I assume at his age isn't hands on anymore or involved that deeply. Aldo Costa who over saw the Mercedes domination era was Byrne's assistant/protégé.
@@KuchingKingVideoGamer I don't think Newey does this for the money anymore, he has earned enough. If Newey goes to Williams, he will have two very good drivers at his disposal, and If he creates a winning car for Williams, which has been struggling for such a long time, Newey will cement himself as the greatest car designer of all time (a title he sort of already have).
