The Tesla Model 3 got a big update for 2024, and we just bought one. Obviously the Edmunds range test has some control issues, similar tires? similar temperatures? it's impossible to get lower range from a lighter car with exactly the same motors and battery and a lower co-efficient of drag - this is the ONLY range test of dozens I have come across where the older model gets higher mileage.

edmunds is the worst car site online when it comes to giving the FUD on tesla. right off the bat the range is whats worse???? by 3miles from EPA estimate. what car, ICE or EV doesnt meet EPA in real world driving. this is just crap journalism at its finest as usual

lol The car is clearly way better than any other vehicle out there. Edmunds, I think you're a shill who tries to make it out like it some debate with pluses and minuses. Tesla stands far ahead of the pack as the most innovative automotive company in the world. I notice that you always have to give a backhanded compliment for each feature to make up for the fact that every other car in the market hits below the mark. Soon, you're going to notice other car companies deleting the stalks off their cars, putting in the one pedal regenerative braking This car is 39,000 dollars with an ridiculous amount of next gen innovation, some of which you havent even mentioned in this review. There is no other car on the market with this kind of tech built into it! What about the safety rating, the longest range for the cheapest price. The megaphone, the games, Netlix, RU-vid, Disney, online browsing, autopark, summon, full self driving (supervision). You didnt even show the enhanced connectivity

Yeah that's pretty bullshit. That could've been due to so many factors, external temperature, driving style, etc. I hardly call a 3-mile deficit "worse".

Not sure what you mean about Tesla "finally getting serious about the audio system" as most other reviewers have said the system in the Model 3 is among the best they have heard. My '22 M3P has a great sound system with deep, tight, accurate and powerful bass, clear mids and highs with excellent sound reproduction and detail that all but the best branded systems out there can only dream of. It's easily among the best I've heard compared with cars I've owned with B&O, Mark Levinson, HK, Bose (not a big fan of Bose but many people like them). I sat in a '24 Model 3 a week ago, it was better in many ways but I didn't really test out the sound system so I can't comment on it compared with my '22, but I drove a '24 Model S and can confirm it was noticeably better than the system in my 3P, so if the new 3 has the same system, it's frankly one of the best systems I've listened to. I did notice the back seat somehow has a little more room but I also noticed at 6'3" my head was very close to the glass, which is not the case in my '22 model. The new one also has more knee room, which I guess is a result of the taller seat height, but I wouldn't want to ride back there very long because I am certain any sort of bumps would result in taller passengers bumping their head against the rear glass. Overall, though, it seems like they did a great job improving an already great car without doing a major redesign.

Don’t worry you will never get over 300 miles these numbers are valid for people drive at 50 miles per hour with good weather conditions

@lidam Very sad. They should make them equal or better to an automatic transmission ICE vehicle. If you step on it all day long in an EV, does the range degrade the same amount as if you'd been stepping on it all day long in an ICE vehicle? If not, fix it. If you start with 340miles of range, like in a GR Corolla for example that starts with 370mi of range (or a kia stinger GT with 382mi of range, or a Mustang GT with 384mi of range), it should not go down under 200mi of range or whatever it is those three ICE vehicles go to when you step on it all day. Sadly, 340mi of range is for the long range model, not the performance model, which is what I was comparing to in ICE vehicles (performance models). The model3 performance is only going to get even worse range, let alone the standard model.

@@copperkeyracing6167 I don't know of a single sporty car that does 0 to 60 in 4.2 seconds and doesn't lose a big amount of fuel when you step on it all day. Even when I had my Acura TLX Type-S it would lose at least a half a tank if I stepped on it all day. And that car gets pretty decent mileage if you drive like a normal person, which most people do 95% of the time.

@@lidam I almost always get over 300 miles in my Model 3 driving as I always do. 70+ on freeways and accelerating from traffic lights very quickly.

I’ve owned my new highland long range for 2 months. The predictive shift is right 98% of the time. It is so damn useful it’s not funny. That said if you haven’t figured it’s in reverse and you want to go forward… rear view camera turns on. Peripheral vision. Use it. Buttons on the wheel is also a non issue. Stupidly easy to use. This is an amazing car, fantastic value for money.

I’ve shifted into the wrong gear in my gas cars more than 2% of the time so if the auto detect is that accurate, it’s an improvement.

I purchased a new Model 3 LR a month ago, the only thing that took a little getting used to was the one pedal / regenerative braking system. I got used to everything else almost instantly, the indicator buttons into muscle memory in a matter of hours. All whom have driven my car have agreed, I don't understand all the talk and negativity, though jumping into one from the get go I can perhaps see it's a little different. Fantastic car, surprises me constantly.

I am disappointed in the removal of the stalks. As an owner of a Model 3, I like the better seats, more compliant suspension, and the new rear entertainment interface.

Good review. The reviewer understates the difference in suspension and the quietness of the new M3 though. The difference is significant when compared to older M3s and all MYs. We actually went with the M3 over the Y because of this. The 24MY is softer ride than prior years, but not by much.

that performance of the long range is actually very good for what it is. like, really good. i remember the 2012 camaro zl1 does 1/4 mile in 12.0s, and 0-60 in 3.8s. the m3 lr in this case is 0.4s slower in 0-60, but 0.3s slower in the 1/4 mile which is really good because that means its not starting off strong and getting weaker at least comparing it to a 580hp rwd muscle car from 13 years ago.

I've driven my brother's 2024 tesla model 3 base model this week and to be honest, I'm kind of jealous. I like how easy it goes up to speed. It's easy to get used to the turn signals being on the wheel if you have driven a motorcycle. I also like the center screen and the tech it has. The car sees the stop signs, it sees the speed signs as well, shows how close you are to the stop lign, the car beeps at you when the lights turn green. CAD $55,000 for a base model is kind of expensive though, considering it is highly suggested to get PPF installed and antirust as well where I'm from anyway.

I experienced the footwell dip in a 2019 Model 3 that Tesla loaned to me while my Model Y was getting something checked. I found it weird at that time too... but Isn't this your third Model 3?

Thanks for getting into the details here. Stuff like the footwell issue is something people need to know so they can check it out in person. At least they have showrooms (could at least find out about the footwell), but I wish we could test drive the cars. I'm leery of the lack of a shifter, but have no issue with the turn signals being on the wheel. It wouldn't take long to get used to. It's definitely all cost cutting measures though. My understanding is lumbar was taken out a while back due to supposed non-use (did people even know it was there)? No adjustable lumbar in a car is a deal breaker. I wish I could tell my younger self to use stuff like that. I am glad to see heated and ventilated seats though. I wish my S6 had ventilated seats. I sure enjoy them in my wife's Highlander. All my talk of the 3 is moot though, as I doubt they fixed it so I could fit inside and see out. I need to see if maybe I fit in the Y. I suspect I might. Hopefully we'll get the refreshed Y soon.

It should be easy to do testdrives, both in person at showroom, and some spots have touchless/remote only test drives (all handled in the app/remote unlocking etc) It IS important for this model to do so, both to experience the much-improved suspension and smoother/quieter ride, but also check out the stalkless controls (auto-shifting worked well for me, took a bit re the turn signals... sigh) The driver side should still have lumbar, I thought? Just passenger lost it long ago..? Lots of pretty tall folks seem to fit in the 3, have you testdriven/sat in one? The Y should be good for you, sits 3" higher and more upright, and easier to get into, but... the same firm suspension, until next year Juniper refresh brings same changes to Y the 3 got...

@@cgamiga Thanks. I have sat in 3 and did not fit. I have friends that are only 6'4" that fit into vehicles I can't fit into at only a few inches taller. I think I would probably fit in a Y. I do need to stop by the showroom near my new office to see if they have one to sit in.

easily available on the tesla website, $39k SR and $47.74k AWD LR..... sadly, the SR-RWD & AWD model3 no longer get US $7.5k tax credit, but.. the $53k NEW PERFORMANCE DOES, and... at $45.5k w/ credit, is actually CHEAPER than the $48k LR AWD 3 !!, and is 2.9sec 0-60, dynamic suspension, new track mode, etc.. so... why not?!?! Hope they can get all trims w/ the tax credit back soon, will be killer

The problem I have with removing the stalk is that the place that the new signals are positioned you have to look down at the steering wheel to know which button you’re pushing. I feel like this could’ve been avoided by putting one button on the left side and one on the right side of the wheel

2023 Model S owner. No stalks is great. It might take a month or so to get totally used to it but once you are it becomes as natural as all those stalks were. Plus your hands never leave the steering wheel. You do everything with your thumbs. Kind of like everybody operates their smart phone instead of the old keyboards on a Blackberry. Maybe Tesla really does know what they're doing. 🙂

no thanks im not dick riding a cost cut lmao. did your hands usually leave the wheel when you used stalks ???? does your middle finger and ring finger not exists ? im not going to sit there like a gimp touching the screen over and over again to do a 3 point turn when all i had to do before was slightly move my finger hands never even leaving the wheel. idk im convinced people that like no stalks are some sort of tesla fanboy like im in my 20s work with computers as my job and have thousands of hours playing games so arguable people like me would be the best candidate for capacitive and stuff based on screens but i still do not agree with moving everything to a screen and capacitive buttons. do i need to mention that autopilot now beeps at me for looking down to change my AC settings because they put it all on a screen. like man even tesla thinks its unsafe. dont get me wrong i love the car but im not a company shill

an f1 car doesnt go on roundabouts and usually has proper mechanical hard press buttons and dials you got the IQ of a fish man. that's like if I said oh yeah my MacBook air has 1kg worth of rubber and protection around it this makes total sense!!! the military laptops have them too!!!!!!! totally agree!!!! yeah but your average consumer laptop isn't used in a war and in rugged environments @@williamrobinson7864

The time and effort to develop and implement that rear screen would have much better spent including an actual instrument cluster with regular turn signals and gear selector. Its like Tesla engineers have a mandate too be different without even thinking if their decision makes sense or not.

at 6:40 mark. i haven't scanned all the comments but aren't you able to turn off the predictive shifting? the review makes it sound like it's hard coded. this would turn off a lot of people.

Of the entire review that alone is turning me off of the new 3. Would be good to know if it can be disabled permanently and not enabled via some future firmware updates.

@@pooshNchums The car has a shifter on the touchscreen. Check out any other video on the car and you'll see it. There's also a shift selector on the ceiling above the rear-view mirror.

Not having an actual shifter might cause a few "unintended acceleration" incidents. Especially when someone is in a rush and doesn't check to see what's around them before starting off. Sure, Tesla has cameras - but they also got rid of the ultrasonic sensors that would be really useful in parking lot situations.

The REAL problem with Cameras are King {as ANYONE with a back up camera knows} is that they are USELESS when covered in mud, snow, ice, pedestrian body parts, or the like. Then what does the fancy arse camera based gear selector do?

@@harriettanthony7352 Unlike those pesky older camera systems, Tesla actually thought of that. If the car detects that its cameras are blocked, it puts a warning on the screen and disables the feature.

When he says the screen is great and the app is great, I'm assuming he is talking only about the US market. In China, Tesla screen and app aren't considered great because there are so many better alternatives.

Excited you guys got a 3. So agree with you on the stalks. Just was looking at a 3 vs Y and quickly threw out the 3 because of these removed controls. I like their minimalist approach but this is a step too far. I did have to laugh at your comment on the interior build quality vs Toyota. We have a 223 RAV4 Hybrid Limited for a year before all the issues wore us down. The quality of the screens, the software, materials quality, the logic of the controls, the very dated design made it feel like it was truly built to its cheapest price point and all the toys on the Limited did not change it much. Our RAV creaked (reminded me of the 80s SUVs/wagons) backing out of our driveway going over the hump, the Y does not. The price difference between the Y and RAV4 Hybrid Limited/XSE is not that different before even the rebates make the Y cheaper. The interior of the Y from the seats, to the touch surfaces, to the technology just feel light years ahead. The only area I liked the RAV better for was the boxier storage space in the tailgate.

J'ai déjà parcouru 7200 km avec la version RWD, elle vient compléter la LRR WD de 2019 et je peux vous dire que ce n'est plus la même voiture en termes de liaisons au sol, insonorisation !!! mais sinon quel pied en sensation de conduite !!!

thye wanna simplify the lineup for the most possible buyers. bigger battery and another motor adds cost. if there isnt as many people wanting a larger battery but not a second motor, that will lead to reduced profit margins which is something they need to keep up for new models like the $25k tesla and robo taxi development. without making profit, they wont reach those goals so although unfortunate, if they cant make enough money diong that, its probably not going to happen. but it really wouldnt be hard to do this at all if there was enough demand for it.

Good review. As for the turn signals on the wheel, well, this has been on Ferrari 458s and all subsequent Ferraris since 2010. If it's ok for Ferrari then it probably should be ok for Tesla too. If the rumors are trues, the performance variant of this car is something I might have to own.

The difference with the Ferrari is that the turn signals are positioned either side of the wheel, which is more intuitive (but still less ergonomic than stalks)

I'm not going to buy a new Tesla. I'm glad I still have ultrasonic sensors and a normal turn signal lever. It's hard enough with the non-functioning windshield wipers. Although I would love to have the seat ventilation and comfortable suspension.

They removed the stalks because if you get used to driving with the blinkers on the wheel, going back it will as annoying. It is a gamble from Tesla, but it can be a good investment the long run. A bit like how Apple took away the headphone jack.

Have one, get used to the turn buttons, BUT if they only added a freakin DIMPLE on the button you wouldn't have to look for it. SAFTEY issue. Waste of money putting motor on trunk, takes too long to go down. Rear display power waster; if normally have people in back seat you'd probably have one of other models. Lastly, 2024 M3 still waiting for staff to program FSD to work with this model ! If I had known that would have delayed, or not gotten it.

Nobody cares how far a car goes on the EPA cycle or the Edmunds test loop. Range at highway speeds is much much more important. Do a 70 or 75 MPH range test under strictly controlled conditions. That's the information we need.

at 75mph constant GPS speed the previous model did 260 miles. this new one has identical powertrain, slightly more efficient wheel and tire combo and slightly better aerodynamics, it should be about 5% more efficient in theory as per Tesla however there seems to be no improvement in the real world. EPA test cycle numbers seems to correlate closely to 60mph constant real world range with what i have noticed across most cars.

@@delusion2987 Your 75MPH result of 260 miles sounds exactly like what I get on my 2018 LR RWD. After every long highway run I extrapolate how far I drove to 100% SOC and the range is usually between 240 (average speed 75+) and 290 miles (average speed ~60). Of course other conditions vary.

Stalkless-gate scandal is a TOTAL myth and over amplified by Legacy auto specialists. Auto-shift will get better with future OTA updates and you get the indicator buttons into muscle memory in a question of hours. Nothing to complain about -imo-

The competition builds way better EVs today but most certainly in 12-15 months when all the premium manufacturers introduce their new EV platforms -> 800V, augmented reality HUD, LIDAR, next generation infotainment systems, V2L/V2G etc. included

@@Aztasu That can happen but I doubt it. Main reason is all the legacy makers are still pushing outdated car selling models. Tesla has great availability and a ton of features as standard in each trim. In contrast, a lot of the legacy makers still struggle to get some of their EVs to dealers and when they do, the dealers mark them up astronomically. Not to mention that they also still sell cars in packages or add on options, instead of bundling everything and just selling trims based on range and performance.

@@Aztasu Also, keep in mind that multiple agencies, surveys, and third parties have confirmed that Tesla has the most brand loyal customers as far as EVs are concerned. And that is year after year, not just one year and not the next. A lot of people like what Tesla is offering at the prices they are offering it. I’m not saying that other brands can’t catch up and possibly surpass Tesla if they sit on their laurels. But for the most part they will still be dominant for quite a few more years until all the other brands start offering compelling EVs.

Totally agree. They needed to fix the issues with the interior. Total deal breaker. They needed to add a driver display front and center to the driver, or simply allow you to slide the large one over to the driver side, or atleast put a place for you to put your ph with the Tesla mobile app running RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER!!! TOTAL DEAL BREAKER!!! Then, they went backwards and took the stalks away! WHAT!!! Lastly, I hate all the screens, they are expensive to have, expensive to maintain, and easily to become old tech that no one wants. How often have you tossed your flat screen at home, and upgraded to new? Exactly. Keep it simple stoopid... or the car will be tossed like yesterday's flat screen. THERE IS SO MUCH MORE BAD!!!
