We bought a Jeep Rubicon Recon! what you need to know and how to buy what you really want. 

First of all congratulations on getting your Jeep. All the packages you speak of I totally agree with. For sure the next Jeep I get will be ordered exactly the way I want it. I’ll just have to learn to be more patient. Lol. Thank you for the comment.

@@overlandingallegiance sting gray was another we considered, and almost ended up with one. However the day before we ordered we saw a sarge green rubicon with bronze wheels driving around and it sold us both.

All true. Very true. I realized once the video was filmed and posted I had forgotten some of the most obvious and specific items on the Recon. Thank you for pointing those out.

Standard rubicon is 4.0:1 The rubicon recon package is 4.56:1 with cast steel differential cover and lifted 1.5 inches more than regular rubicon

I believe that is the rubicon recon extream package. I have just the recon. Granted I have built it to be similar to the extream package. But the recon does not come with the lift or the beadlock wheels That is the recon Extream package out this year.

@@overlandingallegiance oh ok I see now. But the recon rubicon is higher than a standard rubicon, just doesn’t have headlock wheels

13 days? wow, i ordered mine 16 July, and wont be ready until mid to end of September. I did however knew to ask for the 3.6L, 8spd, hd elect, 8.4 audio and the xtreme recon. Seeing this video is awesome. Love the roof rack.

I have gotten 20 without our Overlanding gear and tent but all of that Is extremely heavy and clearly is the cause for the much lower mileage. We are not the most economical when driving it arround town. On a separate but similar note. I intend to get a fully loaded wheight soon. Thank you for your comment.

Thank you for the comment… I think the confusion with my video for a lot of folks is that I’m speaking of the recon edition not the newer extream recon package. You are exactly right about what comes with the extreme recon package.

That is a great question. Other than visually checking and knowing what you are looking at. I had a 2 door long ago and loved it.

So far so good! No issues. Off roading it does great. On the road it gets about the same MPH as any other jeep. Turbo is still kicken. Haven’t heard anyone else having issues with the turbo either.

Well you would be correct but I’m not talking about the extreme recon in the video. I’m talking about my Rubicon Recon Edition. It was a trim package offered I believe between 2017 and 2020. It was related to the release of a video game believe it or not. It’s not the new extreme recon package The recon edition came with certain aftermarket items as you say in the edition. It’s all good. I understand the confusion. I tried to make it clear in this video but I think I did a little better job explaining the difference in a newer video. I appreciate and thank you for your comment.

I'm not sure the Recon package is an option anymore. Are you meaning the Xtreme Recon package?

I believe the “Recon” addition was only for a few years and possibly has been discontinued (for luck of a better term). The extream recin is Jeep’s response to the bronco sasquach (I believe) package regarding clearance and approach angles. Jeep wanted to offer an option that would better the Sanquach packages clearances. So they have created the “Extream Recon” package. Which correct me if I’m wrong included 17” beef lick wheels with 35” tires and a 1.5” lift. I perchased the “Recon” wich came with the 2.0 turbo engine. With a few other perks basically the Rubicon package. Hope this clears up the confusion. And what I have as a poised to what is referred to as the “Extream Recon”. I have put icon 17” wheels with 35” tires and a 2” Mopar lift which essentially makes it similar to the Extream. The engine choices for the new Extream definitely may not include the 2.0.

Agreed! I never liked the exoskeleton kind. This system isn’t cheap but I think worth it in many ways.

@@BennyTygohome Hey, We actually have a Rhino Adventure Gear store ten minutes from my house in San Diego Ca. They have another showroom/shop in San Francisco CA. We ordered from them and had them do the instal. I watched the instal video and it’s very informative but you drill through you fiberglass roof so I decided to let the experts do it for me. At a cost of course. But I had the peace of mind that it was done right. I can tell you from what I know… if you buy the rack and the backbone system it all comes with everything you need for the do it yourself folks.

They have the rack and backbone systems that are designed for several different males and models so make sure you order the appropriate kit. Hope this answered your question.

I'll probably order through quadratec the full platform with backbone kit once they are back in stock. Thanks again. One more question occurred to me, does your rooftop tent attach to the rhino platform or do you remove the platform and tent attaches to rhino crossbars without the platform?

Not exactly. It has some… such as the rock sliders the reenforced tire carrier the steel bumpers that are mostly there on the Rubicon models. Didn’t come with the bigger dash screen, the heated steering wheel the alpine stereo and speaker package. I didn’t know about the other bells and whistles because I didn’t research on line. I went to a dealer and they sold me on this one. They didn’t tell me about all the other stuff because they want to sell what’s on their lot. Hope this answered your question.

Thank you. The rack is the rhino rack platform and back bone system. So it’s weight bering. For things like the rooftop tent. Ordering one with all the things I want and not the things I don’t is the way I would go next time. Hope you enjoy yours. And the Bronco is enticing and maybe one day but after they work out all the bugs and get the hardtop issue figured out. I do like the way they look and from what I hear they would be perfect for the kinds of off-roading I do. Thank you for your comment.

Yep yep yep. I know … I agree …. I can talk slowly some times. Only somewhat in my defensce… you can’t see it because I edited away from me to the Jeep shot. As far as I know... No the Rhino Rack did not void any warranty. That said, I never asked. I have been into the dealer for routine maintenance and for the 2" Mopar lift and no one ever mentioned that the drilling into the top had or would void any warranty. I hope this helps some. It is a fantastic rack and I would fully recommend it! I would buy it again for sure.

Thank you for watching and commenting. I just measured it today after getting back fro. A trip. The garage is 6’11”. The Jeep as is right now two inch Mooar and 35” tired sits at 6’8”. So it has settled just a bit since the lift install. But it is still a tight fit.

@@dpwild328 it is the Rhyno Rack Pioneer Platform with the backbone system. The rack alone is great. The backbone gives it the ability to be weight bearing on the Jeep fiberglass roof. It’s perfect for any rooftop tent.

No. My Jeep is the 2020 recon. Not the extreme package. I have done similar mods to my Recon that now comes as the extream option package. But it is not the extream. I have the 2.0 4 cylinder with the turbo.

@@overlandingallegiance i ordered that awesome Sarge Green. it just reminded me of the classic green from the original jeeps! :) btw for the extreme recon the 6 they are forcing is the E-Torque, and you cant get a manual with it.

Fake recon? It’s not fake there are two different things. One is the Recon edition which is really a trim package. Things such as the recon badge. The stickers on the hood and sides. The heavy duty tire carrier. The red seatbelts. The blacked out grill. The extreme recon is a package that includes one and a half inch lift need lock ready wheels I believe 35 inch tires. Haha I know right. I havnt heard a price point for the extreme but I’ve put enough extra into mine that it’s dang near the equivalent to one except for the engine. I’m actually getting used to the 4 cylinder 2.0 turbo. It’s a little quirky with the turbo lag but I’m getting the hang of it. And it’ll go anywhere. Thank you for the comment.

@@overlandingallegiance The Extreme Recon pkg is a 2" lift, different shocks, bead lock wheels and 35" tires. $3995 is the pkg price. They came out with it to compete w/ the Bronco Sasquatch package.
