My son just returned home from being stationed overseas for the last 2 years and the whole time has been saving his money and dreaming of getting and building a Jeep when he got home. It only took him 4 days to find the Jeep he wanted and in this video we take you one a tour of the good and bad things of this 2006 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon TJ…. Sorry we didn’t get and LJ, but we’ll explain why in the video!

6 months ago I bought a 98 Wrangler Sport SE with the 5 speed. 8,000 miles, one owner, garaged it’s entire life. It was bone stock when I bought it, never even had the roof off. I put some new rubber floor liners in, leveled it, put some wheels on it and that’s it. Super fun weekend car. It’s only a 4 banger so I don’t go anywhere fast but I love the thing. It was a great find.

So that transmission is finicky it has bronze guides so if you replace the gear oil in it i recommend Red-line synthetic or royal purple synchromesh. I took this advice from someone & it made a huge difference in shifting my 2005 LJ , just thought I’d share . You guys are the best much respect thank your son for serving.

Thank your son for his service, and you too Sir. My Dad was Navy, WWII Aviation Machinist's Mate 1st class, use to ware his uniform as a kid. Very cool project for a father son. My son, grandson and I were going to take our Jeeps to SMORR's (Southern Missouri Off Road Ranch) in Seymour Missouri today, 100 miles away but 100% rain and 40 degrees, we backed out.

Congrats to your son for his service & his TJ! Your comment on weight really hit home. I just got a 2020 JLUR & added the usual mods: lift, 37's, bead locks, winch, electric step sliders, recovery kit, ARB twin compressor, jack, etc. My point being that my stock 4450 lb rig is likely now 1,000 lbs heavier! I may need to rethink what I carry with me on the trail.

Hi Brad ! Awesome that your son is back! I hope you have a great time with the jeep build. Thanks for the time you put into filming all your great adventures. I use to think it would be nice meeting up out on the trail, however myself or my friends would feel a little out of place with all the super high dollar$$$ rigs you show on TrailRecon. There are more people that off road and overland 20+ year old vehicles than the High Dollar stuff! I use to be able to relate to the show, but that time is no longer. I wish you all the success in E3 and in your future endeavors. Thanks to you and your family for your service to this Great country and all the sacrifices made on my behalf and that of my family, it's appreciated!

Exactly what I was going to say and recommend. Savvy is a quick run up the 15 from SD and Gerald can get him setup no problem. In fact, it would make a great video to get a the behind the scenes look into Savvy Off-Road/Racing. My last TJ had every Savvy product available at the time and it wheeled like a champ!

I bought my 2004 with 78,000 miles on it several years ago and I suggest you change out the radiator(for an all metal one) and hoses straight away. mine would overheat in extreme conditions. Also, you don't need a SYE as you have a NP241OR which doesn't have a slip yoke. Go Savvy for all aluminum stuff, super light weight.

5:00 If you get rid of those plastic end caps and keep the front bumper for now, maybe get a set of Armadillo 11902 Xtreme Front Bumper Ends for 97-06 Jeep Wrangler TJ. Inexpensive, more tire clearance, and look MUCH better than those factory end caps

Speaking from owning and daily driving a TJ and being 22 stay below 4 inch! I wish I would've gone 3.5 inch with a 1 inch body lift and tummy tuck. The 4 inches is great and all but it rides stiff and you feel everything. At least with 3/3.5 you keep some of that stock control arm angle

Sound advice, I have 05 LJ I personally wouldn't go over 2" suspension lift, or else your in for horrible ride, I eventually went with Rock Krawler 5" long arm kit

Congrats! What a great find, in such a good start for a build. I'm so jealous of all the clean older vehicles you guys have out in Cali. Most of the TJ's out here all rot boxes by now. I also love the soft top and half doors, I think that's perfect for a TJ in California.

There’s a place in Chula Vista called Jeep King or Camper King, they build and sell hard tops for Jeeps that are insulated and carpeted inside. They’re very quiet and nice. I recommend going with long arms if you’re going with a 4” lift on a TJ. Those short factory arms will make the ride very rough and unpleasant at 4 inches of lift. I also recommend installing a Centerforce dual friction clutch and high inertia flywheel when the time comes to replace the clutch. Good luck with your build and thank you and your son for your service.

Right on with the ‘06 (bought new) TJ! That is the exact model and year that I have down to the color. Running 4.5” Rubicon Express long arms on 35” tires on 15” rims. I want the extra rubber for the air down ride. Full doors on mine and a Bestop twill top. Warm (Colorado temps) and fairly quiet. Armored underneath as well. Insane audio system. Sorry I don’t mean to go on but I’m just as excited to see you build your TJ as I was building mine and my gal did her JK.
