We Build The Best Chest Freezer Ice Bath | Custom Car Quality

At Pro Shop we mainly build custom cars however in this video we build our very own ice bath out of a chest freezer. With a thermometer to control the temperature, a pump to circulate the water and ozone generator to help keep the water clean it has all the features of an expensive ice bath however we managed to do all this for under $1000.
As always thanks to my beautiful partner Anika for the video edit.

We have a lot in common . I lived in Australia for a while , I paint cars for a living, Sprayed lots of Raptor , Been taking cold showers for a couple of years .The only difference is my wife fights me on everything , except the divorce . The best part was watching you both work together , and the dog.

Great video! Alot of hard work! Got some great ideas 💡 thanks so much for sharing. Ps in my research I did see that your inkbird thermometer is not the one made for aquariums/under water all the time- with rubber seal. Apparently it will degrade/rust over time. They are same price. Just another content creator sponsored by them mentioned it with his ice bath ❤ Also had a question about your waterproofing- is it non toxic? Will chemicals leach into water? I'm deciding on my waterproof sealer now and too many options/different advice out there. Alot reccomend pond sheild (epoxy 2 step) or rubber pond sealer.

Question....where did you buy the pump kit from? As well, I'm assuming you plug in the freezer and keep it running to cool the water when you're not using it? The reason I'm asking is I've seen videos that use a fridge but just for holding the water. They don't plug it in...and do you add ice to it or was that ice formed from just plugging it in? Awesome video btw, best I've seen yet!!!

Guys this looks amazing. Awesome job, best DIY ice bath I’ve seen on RU-vid 👏. You’ve given me some good ideas for my chest freezer conversion, thank you for the vid! One question, would I be able to apply the Raptor coating with a roller or a paint brush? I don’t have a spray gun and that stuff looks really good…
@ProShop1
@ProShop1 11 месяцев назад
Thanks mate. After 6 months the Raptor is starting to bubble up around the top edge. It seems the condensation is getting between the layers and making it lift. We were going to use a pond liner but someone else commented that the same is happening to theirs. It won’t look as good but it might be better off without a liner.

@@joek292 I was going to use Linex at first but I would of had to of paid someone to do it as it uses a different system to what I have. We already use the Raptor system here so we went with that. Whatever liner you choose would be fine as a truck bed would get a lot more abuse than an ice bath.

Very different, but no less epic because of it! Modern society forgets more than they remember, we are creatures of the earth, not above it.

Well said! I never imagined NT getting to minus 8 but I know what you mean. I've worked in factories all my life here in Sydneys west and have felt those minus zero mornings in winter and then the 40+ summers.... then add welding jacket, gloves and helmet.... all I can say is it'll make you resilient.
@brushitoff503
@brushitoff503 Год назад
@Pro Shop It does in Alice Springs in winter. I took a thermometer out into the sun one summer, the scale stopped at 56°C. It hit that temp in less than 5 minutes & it wasn't on the ground. It gets so hot up there that the road literally melts. Have many stories.

Nice job. I'm interested to see how the raptor lining holds up. Apparently some people in the DIY cold plunge community had theirs come off. Could have been poor prep work though. I'm looking into doing something like this myself, so trying to find out what the best way to go about it is.

Cheers. I've noticed the lining coming off a bit on on the silicon joins. We probably should have done another coat or maybe primed the silicon like we did the plastic. I'll talk about it more in the update video we will do soon.

I’m currently building one now but I’m using epoxy to paint it. Next time perhaps raptor coat first then seal it. Epoxy won’t stick to the silicone and I can’t see why the raptor coat would be any different. 😊

@@shanebarton929 I’ve never had a problem with the Raptor sticking to silicon on any of the cars I have built but I guess they aren’t sitting in freezing cold water😳. There is a primer available that is for silicon I’ve seen used on truck beds. Probably something I would use if I was going to build another one.

How long did you wait for the bed liner to off gas before filling it with water? I went this same direction with my cold plunge! It’s been two weeks and the smell is still bad.

We let it sit for about 2 weeks before filling it up. I can't really smell the paint. Maybe the ozone is helping.

Great ice bath! One question.... When i switch on my freezer, filled with water to cool it down, it get extremly hot on the outside. Is this normal and do you have the same experience?

Ours only get warm down near the compressor however I put an exhaust fan on it to fix that problem

Good idea with the fan. My freezer is around 10 years old. I think this is the reason for the hot surface. Thanks for awnsering...

How did you fit the tap in the outlet? I’d like to fit one in mine. I am going the DIY route and don’t have much idea about these little things. Any help would be appreciated.

The outlet was roughly the same size as the tap so with a little thread tape I just screwed it in the hole.

Hey mate, how did you fix the panel with all the electrics onto the side of the chest freezer without piercing the coil/pipes or motor?
@ProShop1
@ProShop1 Год назад
I screwed it in the corners and only went through the metal a couple of millimetres. It was only to really hold it while the glue dried. I guess I just could have clamped it.

Is the caulk working well for sealing the seems? Caulk usually remains rubbery while I believe the Razor Coating is pretty hard. Are they staying stuck together and sealed?

@@ProShop1 with your talent I’m sure you sanded it properly. Maybe it’s the aluminum and some sort of electronic corrosion? I’m guessing Pond Shield is back on top as the best liner?

@@kennruckey I’m pretty sure the condensation from the freezing builds up between the layers causing it to lift. Someone in the comments said it happened with their pondliner too.

hi, great video 🙌. I have my chest freezer and raptor is on order. Can i check did you do anything to prep the metal surface inside first e.g. rubbed with alcohol and scratched the surface up etc?
@ProShop1
@ProShop1 Год назад
Hi Alex. You should check out our latest update video as we found out the Raptor is holding up too well. We prepped the surface by roughing it and cleaning with wax and grease but it has started to flake off in some sections. I would recommend a pond liner. We are about to redo ours with Pond Armor. It is non toxic and has a greater temperature adhesion range.

Actually after 6 months of use the liner is starting to flake off. A lot of other people are saying most lining products aren't handling the condensation. We are about to redo ours and try something different.
