Hey Bobby, just wanted to say how much I enjoy all your videos. You put a lot of factual information in each video so thank you. I’m getting back into raising rabbits for so many reasons. One reason the quality of meat along with just another source of home grown food. I seen a partial video of your bees so we have a lot of the same interest. My family and I live in southern Mo and are always looking for how to videos and good solid information. Thanks , you’re doing a great job!

Hello, I also had a rabbit farm here in Bulgaria.But the feed became so expensive and they keep increasing it that I had to raise the price of the meat and the rabbits themselves.The customers stopped buying meat and live rabbits, I had to give ready money to feed them, without returning anything.Not to mention hay, the price is sky high, impossible to feed.And the government does nothing to stop this increase, but on the contrary, it constantly raises the price.And I had to remove everything and I'm bankrupt unfortunately I love these animals I hope it gets better one day.

Pro Tip: Hay should never be dusty. It should have a nice smell. Chew up and down the stalk of a few pieces of hay to extract the taste, not to eat. Good hay will have an almost sweet taste with a slight bit of a salty taste. Good hay actually tastes good when chewed. Your animals will thank you for it.

So 1 bale a hay a month for 3-4 rabbits.... How much square feet would it take to produce that? Curious from a self sufficiency angle.

Cutting and baling without equipment is pretty labor intensive. First, Purchase a scythe. Pick a large area(a Quarter to half an acre) and let your grass grow tall and cut about 18” high in June. It’s terrific exercise. You may enjoy this video. Nice haul of hay! (Love how you snuck getting assistance on the stacking, clever!). My issue on hay is where to store it. I don’t have a homestead or even a shed. An entire bale seems to be too big a stash for my garage…..I don’t want to encourage field mice into a garage attached to my house. I bet I could work out something with my local feed store. Maybe just enough to store in a trash bin, nice and dry. Your feed course looks like topic of interest to me. Great concept! It’s quite pricey just for food info tho…..still thinking it over.

Hay is cut in what is called flakes inside the bale. Basically, the hay is cut into slices, or flakes. When you cut the bailing twine (used to be bailing wire - old age here), you can then just take a flake, leaving the rest still neatly held together by itself. There is no reason you cannot just take multiple flakes together and stack them how (upward, not horizontal) and where you want.

I can get 22 bales of hay in my extended van. I used to haul sound and lighting equipment, but now it's my hay storage. I also keep some under the tables in my greenhouse, wrapped in tarps...

Question: Can we avoid using outside hay if we can grow alfalfa as a perennial? If so, approx how much area to feed 3 rabbits for 1 year? (assuming 2 cuts per year)
@TheRabbitryCenter
@TheRabbitryCenter 7 месяцев назад
Alfalfa is made into Hay and pellet. Green alfalfa, and dried alfalfa hay, Will have different benefits.

Thanks for sharing. Question: is your calculation of 1 hay bale a month per 3 rabbits including the kits or just the breeding rabbits? We are just starting out and I’m trying to get an idea of the amount of hay I should get. We will have a 3 rabbits (2 doe and 1 buck) to breed for meat. Any thoughts on amount of hay used per breeding cycle? I should add, we plan on using pellets as well.

What breed are you using? What is the average litter size? These details will determine the answer.

3-4 rabbits 1 bale a month This is a rough estimate. You may use a little less. You may use a little more if you had litters.

Is alphalfa hay not good for rabbits?
@TheRabbitryCenter
@TheRabbitryCenter 7 месяцев назад
Alfalfa is what’s in the pellet along with several other ingredients, it makes good hay that said, it’s high in calcium and because they process their calcium and discard the rest through their urine it can cause kidney stones with older rabbits, if fed too much. variety of greens would be best.

Uh... 🙋‍♀️ i have 3 rabbits given to me, all standard rex. You say i should be going through a bale of hay a month?! I have bought a total of 2 bales of hay. Timothy hay bags at Tractor Supply, so you really wouldnt count that as a bale. Obviously my rabbits dont eat enough hay, though they have it at all times. How do i get them to eat more hay?
@stevesadnick204
@stevesadnick204 7 месяцев назад
You don't get them to eat more. Although I agree that hay has benifets , it truly is not a necessity. A quality pellet is sufficient nutrition for a rabbit. Hay does help if you have bad genitics with teeth issues. But them chewing on pellets is typically enough to keep their teeth healthy. And some things to chew on and play with will be just as effective as hay is.

Thank you! They all seem healthy and happy. I do give them little toys and things. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't possibly missing a sign of something. We do enjoy our rabbits.

Hay should account for about 70% of their diet-this helps keep a Rabbits digestion healthy. fill your hay feeder every morning and evening. amzn.to/3T6jh5f you can make one out of cage wire too. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2nZPAq72S1c5.html53s
