Please keep in mind that if you decide to move to one of the "cheaper countries", you'll most likely just be transfering the load of your financial problems to local people. Portuguese people can no longer afford rent due to foreigners flocking in looking for a cheaper lifestyle. There is plenty of content online describing the situation. Maybe consider a smaller home, different car, and actual steady jobs before making a switch like that...
The situation of foreigners flocking to other countries for financial reasons is a problem world wide, not only for Portugal. Yes, house prices go up everywhere, that’s one of the reasons many people are leaving the U.K. ..They can’t afford to rent…it isn’t Just a Portuguese problem. Let’s not forget that Millions of Portuguese and other nationalities have made their homes in the Uk for financial reasons too. Should they also be blamed for bringing their financial problems with them ? Should they be blamed for rising house prices and rents ? Foreigners help the local economy by paying taxes, giving people jobs and fueling the economy by everyday consumption . That’s how the world goes round, give and take. You sound like a very entitled person, telling other people how to live their lives.
Coming from a wedding videographer, you would be the best wedding videographer with your story telling, editing and eye for emotional detail. That is an instant £100k a year if you're ever struggling for income
I get such a sense of comfort watching your videos. Sundays with the Michalaks hold a special place in my heart. From the London flat days, Squeaky G, your move to Bath and seeing you become a family of 4 (or should I say 6 🐶 🐶 ) - thank you xo
Please never stop creating videos like this!!! I've been watching you guys since Grayson was born and your videos really helped me trough some hard times. I wish you all the best for the future and hope you find your happy place, wherever it might be! :) Greetings from Munich, Germany :)
In my little circle of work and family / friends No one ever seems to talk about the cost of living or seems to admit they are struggling. It was comforting to hear the stats and listen to your thoughts and know we aren't the only ones ! Thanks
I live in New Zealand and we always considered ourselves fairly financially stable. We own our home and all that but in the last few months we've realised that literally all our money is taken up by living expenses. We've gone back to living pay check to pay check. It's bizarre. Our country is just so ridiculously expensive and it feels like one step forward and two steps back at the moment
Yo fellow kiwi. And yes couldn't agree more. How did it cost me 8$ for 5 red onions the other day. And now after the cyclones and the floods. It's absolutely ridiculous how expensive things are. I've become a lot less materialistic now. Stopped wating makeup, getting nails done, just wearing the clothes I have and I've been selling a lot of my belongings on trademe. Anyway. Hope it gets easier for us. Chur the bro
@@Emmastayofftheinternet yea I think kumara we're $9 EACH the other day 😭 I'm the same, no more unnecessary expenses for a while. I've been getting so many "closing down" emails from small businesses too which is real sad 😢 chur the bro 😅
Move to Madeira Island. Moving this year. I’ve moved from Madeira to the UK 10 years ago. Time to go back . Kids are happier there, promise you. My son loves it . The sun, the sea, the landscapes . 🙌🏻
Please make more of this! I’ve been on this channel since Grayson was a little baby and it’s great to see how far you’ve come! Hope everything will be better one day! the honesty and sincerity this days is hard to find anywhere please continue being the pure souls you are
I’m a teacher and I feel like I work so hard. I’ve just applied for a job in Dubai. I would get a tax free salary, accommodation paid for, a private British education for my daughter and medical care. The idea of only having to pay for food and travel is giving me a sense of relief. I can’t imagine a life where I am able to have savings!
I have worked in KSA and Dubai yes the money is good but your rights and freedoms aren't I ended up coming back to the UK after a year because I hated it so much and it's FLIPPIN roasting hot the education system is based mainly on a USA model and the parents blame the teachers if their kids don't do well and, a lot are spoilt it's a high pressured job
Uhgh I would never ever want to move to Dubai, even if they‘d pay me to live there… Especially not as a woman (+ a girl). If a woman gets raped in Dubai, SHE is the one who‘s going to prison. Slaves are building all the luxurious skyscrapers for western and/or rich people to live there. The workers don‘t have any rights and often die at the construction sites. Also just google „princess Latifa“… That‘s not the kind of environment where I would like to raise my kids and those aren‘t the values my kids should learn…
As southerners when we moved to Scotland for uni, we found it’s a lot more affordable. We bought a house here which we love which would have been more than double the amount down south. Amazing countryside right on our doorstep too and the people are a lot nicer 😂 It’s worth considering before you think about going abroad. 😊
the clips of grayson and rufus and this glimpse of their childhood next to the conversation about the cost of living crisis just really made me cry. i’ve loved you guys for a long time and i’ll always be rooting for you.
I was strange kid who struggled in school both educationally and socially. Moved to a different country from the UK in 2001 (since returned to the UK). Happy to talk through some joys and difficulties of the experience.
I’m so glad it’s not just us who are shocked at the cost of living and being affected, some days it just feels like it’s only affected your family. I don’t understand how we’re just accepting this. Our annual gas and electric costs are £7,350!!! It’s eye watering!
Thank you for your honesty regarding this rather expensive time in history. There does seem to be a stigma attached to 'not being able to afford things' and it's humbling to see your honesty. We live in Spain and I suppose at least we have the warm weather and beaches to buffer things. Good luck to you guys on searching for a different lifestyle 🙏
We emigrated to australia 18 months ago and lifestyle wise, it’s unbeatable. We miss family and friends but it’s such a better life for our little boy 😊
it must be different for everybody. i find things here in aus soooo much more expensive than uk. i know our wages are slightly higher but it is just relative compared to the price of things. food has always been seriously expensive, our energy prices are some of the worst in the world, internet and phone bills are shocking etc. i mean, it doesn't sound too dissimilar from the issues the uk faces now that i'm typing it out ahah though i do find the style of life here to be very go go go and not particularly fantastic if im honest. i suppose it could just be that my experience in the uk is with my grandmas wealthy cousin who lives on a lovely farm and not an overpriced flat in the city lol🤷♀ Comparably though, we have fewer small towns which have all the amenities that small uk towns have, and ours are a lot more spread out so going into the city is fairly inescapable. imagine living a 1-2 hours drive out into the countryside and having to go into London just to do the big food shop or go and see the gp, thats what my cousin has to do as she lives on a farm in the countryside. the closest supermarket is a 45 min drive away and because they're smaller and independent, they're so much more expensive than the big ones in the city 2 hours away so its not sustainable to buy everything there. idk, it might just be my bias and experience but i struggle to find life here that relaxing ahahah. maybe its a case of grass is always greener aahaha good for you though that you're enjoying life a lot more now!
"If in doubt, zoom out" is a great way to put how I deal with my anxiety/overthinking into words. I used to be controlled by it but over time I've gotten to a point where I can catch myself spiralling and snap myself out of it by thinking how ridiculous all of this is in the grand scheme of things. How insignificant my entire life is when put into perspective with the entire universe, let alone a few simple, silly thoughts.
I feel absolutely the same way - worried about money, and definitely worried that all of this may only get worse before it gets any better. You guys are awesome and inspiring, and it’s great to feel less alone in these troubling times!! ❤
Today I saw a package of bacon for $16.00! There is room for all of us in the boat that aren't in the top one percent. A new adventure is just what your family needs. Thanks for taking us along!
Stef, please consider a job that can pay you regularly. I know its not ideal to work for someone else but even if its temporary, your family is depending on you. It doesnt mean you cannot do the other things you enjoy but if money is scarce, then I feel its the only option until the sun comes out again. Thanks for the lovely vlog! 🌞🌟
I’m 24 and have a garden gnome that holds a sign saying “drink gin, save water”, that print was made for me so I’ve ordered one! Beautiful video as always Stef
I've been watching you guys for ages and I've never had the courage to comment but I've always wanted to let you guys know that your story telling and videography has always been my favourite. I honestly am mind boggled as to why you don't have more subscribers. I wish you guys nothing but happiness!
I have been living in Morocco for the past year, you can live off around 10K a year here quite easily (as a single person) it is so refreshing from my life in the UK I never want to leave. I hated the work-to-live cycle, working 60 hours a week to have 48 hours off at the weekend and get up in the pissing rain just was not for me. I think there is something to be said about the sun as well, maybe because Brits are so deprived but to be honest everything feels more manageable when you know 10 months a year will be dry and sunny.
your life is reflecting all of our lives right now. we are all struggling, wondering how we are going to pay the bills, eat, just basically live. This isn't ok, we all shouldn't be struggling this much, there are many profiting off of this situation when others are not surviving. I have just finished my masters turns out it was a waste of time and money, train fair has gone up so much I cant actually commute anywhere from Cardiff to London its £14,500 for 3 days other destinations its 6-8k. rent for a one bed flat is £1200 without bills, food and needing to live how are we expected to actually live not even a good life just live? think many of us are thinking of leaving.
I like the saying not everyone is in the same boat but we are all in the same sea. I think that’s important to remember when speaking about these things
Ummm just stumbled upon this video and I’m 🤯 Your storytelling, videography, personalities, editing is truly unlike any others I’ve seen. Made me really think that I need to up my game on vlogging😂. Instantly subscribed, looking forward to watching more of your content.
Ahh, it's good to be back and watching my favourite RU-vid gang. I feel incredibly sympathetic to what you're going through, I think a lot of us are at crossroads right now trying to figure out what's next and how to cope with everything going on. Nevertheless, knowing that we're not alone in this does feel comforting, it takes some of that existential dread away because we're all the same more or less. Anyway, Margate seems awesome! All my love goes to you guys!
It’s almost a relief seeing someone like you struggling, how bizzarre?! I feel more normal! But here in Italy we are very much struggling financially so idk if it is going to be benificial to you considering moving here 😢
I can't afford to live in the UK anymore either. Heading off to work remotely from Asia, fed up of how expensive the UK is. It wouldn't be so bad if the weather was nice and we could get outdoors (free), but instead we're forced to stay indoors 3/4 of the year. If we want to get out we pay £££ to do anything remotely fun.
Really enjoy your work. Very creative! Keep up the good work! Best of luck finding your new homw. Hey, with a Polish last name like Michalak have you considered moving to Poland? For example, to Krakow? I used to know an internationally accomplised jazz trumpeter from Krakow named Michalak (BTW the famous British violinist Nigel Kennedy also lives in Krakow). Krakow is steeped in artistic tradition. And it's a beautiful city. I myself grew up in California and studied in Krakow, then moved to Poland 30 years ago. No regrets whatsoever. .
Been watching these for years now and there was something about this vid that felt like a breath of fresh air. I agree with what someone else commented that you would be a fabulous wedding and event photographer Stef xx
Hell yeah Margate’s in the golden era. I grew up there and the transformation is insane. Trains come down from London packed every day in summer. That tower block has the most incredible views - a bunch of artists live there and will open up their flats occasionally.
I think the world is going a bit insane with living costs. My family lives in multiple places across the world and everyone is talking about the cost of living, housing, food and general services. I’m happy to watch your videos. Even with this pressing topic it’s still great to watch. You are a great artist.
We’re in the same boat and thinking of moving abroad, it’s so hard to decide where to go and how to do it though! Would be interesting to see how you end up making your decision.
wow. I've never watched one of your videos before. and i'm not much of a commentor either. but wow. the cinematography, the story telling, the production. incredible stuff!
You should move to Croatia. The weather is awesome, it is small so you can travel from hills to seaside in the same day and the coast, specifically the water, is absolutely gorgeous. Even though you have financial struggles in the UK, Croatia is way cheaper, so you can hold onto the sam lifestyle if not better with current and future income.
I moved to Spain a month after the BREXSHIT referendum and life is sweet. I pay 250 euros a month rent for a studio and my bills are nothing compared to what friends are paying back in old Blighty. My local fruit shop sells a kilo of anything for 1 euro. The sky is blue almost everyday.
Currently watching from my bed on this beautiful Sunday. My body is definitely asking for rest. Finally get to catch up to a much awaited vlog, thank you Stef and Hannah for your hard work and always being so open to sharing your lives with us. I know there are probably lots of downsides but it seems you bring lots of people comfort.✌🏼❤
Beautiful as always Stef, thank you. Hope you guys are ok, it’s all a bit tough now but we’ll get through and it may force us to seek out other things like moving away that we wouldn’t have ordinarily thought about. Sending love x
I've visited Margate a few times to see my old mate who lives there. I was confounded on my first trip because the Sun appeared to me to set in the East over the sea. But it was because Margate is on the north Kent coast facing the North Sea. During the Summer, they have a weekend where the beach is taken over by the Carribbean community from London.
My partner and I are actually moving to Germany soon - for the exact reason of things just being so expensive over here. I grew up in Germany and came to the UK a few years ago, however, in the last few months we just felt like our life isn't really going anywhere over here and we're just living to pay the bills. Back where I grew up things are much cheaper and we feel like we get a waaaaay better quality of life. We're not paying hundreds of Euros less in rent - including all the bills! I hate saying it as the UK used to be my sanctuary, but I feel like things are going down the drain here... they certainly are everywhere, but especially here. I can only recommend going somewhere in Europe with a slower lifestyle, cheaper prices on everything and a better quality of life. Sending you guys lots of love
We've all been in a 'eb' and all face challenges but continue to ride the waves. It's how you deal with those challenges that make life that little bit simpler.
Your everyday real life vlogs with peaceful music and cool shots are what makes your content unique and so good! Loved the old school vlog style being back 😊
I feel the financial pinch rn too! I got a master's degree but bc I work in higher Ed I'm super under paid and looking at getting a second job for the weekends. I'm renting and my monthly payments are more than friends and family's mortgage payments. Kind of insane that I need to, but there are student loans to pay off too and it is what it is. Wishing the best for you guys ❤
Hi from a married mum of 2, Brit in Spain. We would never move back to the UK. My kids are 5 and 3, both born here and in Spanish school, quality of life over anything xx
If you are really thinking about Italy, I really suggest to check out Bologna. I live here for a while now and it’s the perfect size city, really open minded, a lot to do but you can walk and bike everywhere. Here we have the oldest university in Italy and one of the first in all Europe ( 1088 a.c) and one of the biggest in all the country! There are people from all over the world moving here, so I think it could be a nice idea to check it out ❤
We decided to move to France in 2021 after realising affording our dream home might never happen - cost of living is pretty similar to UK but the quality of life is infinitely better (and the house was dirt cheap). Totally recommend!
Find yourselves a house in the countryside somewhere, with a healthy local school. The grass isn’t always geener on the otherside. I live in the south of France its constantly hot, polluted.....eventhough it appears beautiful everywhere. The south west of France in the countryside is good ❤
New subscriber California USA…. I love your editing and creative video, humor… I’m enjoying watching . I feel for you as we are experiencing inflation here too
Ty for allow me to not feel alone in the cosy livs bs (yes we can only meme in these dire times otherwise we will cry) but i always love seeing your videos and i'm so sorry grace isn't having such a good time, i hope the fresh somewhere new will be beneficial for them!
We are in the same boat in the US (in Michigan) on every aspect, the school stuff as well it’s all just awful and have been looking at Portugal the most out of everything. The D7 visa is the best options for us personally. Italy has been on our list too and Spain
Portugal (Lisbon in specific) is becoming more and more expensive. Especially rentals are over the roof. So be aware of that while making your decision!
i've watched you guys from when you guys were squeezed into your little flat in london .... to now thinking about moving out of the uk .... and never once has your videos failed i live the creative outlook and the difference compared to every youtuber out there ... i just HATE that the algorithm fails you guys !! P.S look into Norfolk ... i moved here 6 months ago still english , still countryside but remote and stunning x
