Hey all! Derek the Rockmaster here! I just wanted to correct some information in the video. It was rather early and just finished driving about 2 hours on windy mountain roads and I misspoke about the classification of pegmatites. Pegmatites are actually igneous rocks and not a metamorphic rocks. In fact pegmatites are some of the best sources for rare gemstones like emerald and are great conduits for a conglomerate of other amazing minerals. I want to make sure I am providing right information for all who watch this channel.
Old mine waste is the best!!! Always a great place to rockhound 👍🏼 Derek is the man! Anytime he’s in one of your videos I know it’s going to be good! Some beautiful kyanite guys awesome adventure
That moonstone is so beautiful. But I also think mica looks pretty awesome. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much kyanite clustered together. That area looks quite similar to certain areas here in Utah. Thanks for the video, Lord Kyle! Thanks to Lord Derek also!
I don't know how you climbed that mountain! That was awesome! But I think it really paid off; I suspect you'll be really happy with that blue kyanite and all those beryl crystals. Thanks for taking us along for another fabulous adventure.
Very awesome! Thank you both for the hard work to bring us such an awesome episode 😘. You two are hilarious. Derek seems to have come from my family of goofy humor. Love it! You guys should go back up and look for some big blades of kyanite. Stuff with little matrix on it. It’s there, you just have to really look 👀. Thank you so much for sharing your adventure. Stay Crystal 💫 Mari
Thanks for taking us to very nice spot , I can understand why you do what do , I'm the same way , I love rocks and minerals. Natures art museum. See you soon . Cheers
What a cool hike and some excellent finds 🙂 I can't wait for more snow and ice to melt here so I can get back to the ol' treasure hunting 👍 There's a steep hill up in the mountains outside of Colville, Wa that I've found some mica/quartz + a few tiny garnets.
This was awesome. I love Gem hunting in NC. Gorgeous finds in the gorgeous mountains. Hopefully, you took the time to just enjoy the mountains before you return to our flat florida, lol
Thanks for another fun video. The mountains and the finds were beautiful. Today has a been a bad brain day for me and seeing this video has helped make it a bit better.
What a great crystal lesson from Derek! Don't you hate how the greedy bad apples always spoil it for the rest of us? Those Kyanite rocks are sparkly.✨ I think we're sometimes spoiled by professionally finished crystals & aren't easily impressed when we find certain ones in the raw. The bits are going to look great in a jar. 👍❤️
So much sparkle all around you! It looked like an exciting adventure especially with the mountain views and beautiful creek. Your doggie friend might have enjoyed some pizza too. I wonder how many times he's climbed that mountain! Thank you for sharing your day!
Oh the joy ypu two share of experiencing these hills XD I remember when my family went to visit my dad's side in Virginia and we went hiking and when we got to the top and I asked where the mountain was they got all sorts of upset cuz I called their mountains Foothills XD I'm from Washington State so I'm surrounded by snow capped mountains all year long.
Always the best, never stop hunting, you will find that treasure one day, this hobby is so exciting and you can travel. The mountain, well not me,y'all go up and I'll go down an Wait.🤗😀😊👍❤️ Your knowledge of rocks, awesome.
Awesome video Kyle! I love that you guys have so much fun no matter what you're doing. I appreciate your ethics an morals as well. I love moonstone and blue kyanite. Very cool finds, thanks for sharing!✌🤠
We love going to SW North Carolina. It never fails to give us a bounty of pretty rocks. Cute dog! Glad to see you sparkling like the ground around you. You rock, pun intended. Keep the goodness coming. Be happy, safe and stay healthy 😷⚒
Great video! I moved to WNC from Florida and love rockhounding. Thank you for sharing your adventure and for focusing in on your close-ups of the rocks.
I have a book on crystals and their healing properties and their other important information Kyanite Kyanite is an usual mineral composed of aluminum silicate. It forms in parallel flate blades with visible striations, which are often embedded in metamorphic rocks or veins of quartz. An usual characteristic of Kyanite is that it has two levels of hardness- it is relatively weak when scratched parallel to the vertical axis and harder if scratched across that axis. It is usually found in a pale blue color- sometimes in deeper blue or white specimens- and it also has an attractive pearly sheen on it's flat surfaces. Viewed from the side, a piece of Kyanite resembles sheets of thin paper laid on top of each other, rather like a book. It has a tendency to splinter along the vertical axis, which means it is not often set in jewlery, and needs to be handled and stored with care. In Yoga & Meditation The distinctive structure of Kyanite makes it a useful tool in crystal healing as a conductor of energy, working like a channel to transmute negativity out of the system and allow positive energy in. It opens up new avenues of awareness and enables deeper levels to be accessed in meditation. It allows energy to be in a constant flow, moving through any blockages with ease; it is a classic crystal for letting go, releasing old patterns that no longer serve us. I know crystal healing since I started doing yoga.
I'm glad yall are enjoying your time here in NC. I'm gonna try to drop some photos of some more pyrite but cube crystals on your FB page. Getting to where it is, involves some kayaking through the oldest mountains in the United States, 500 Million years old, The Uwharrie Mountains. I have the kayaks. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us!
We hike several trails a lot and a lot of miles but never think about rock while hiking. Thank you for sharing, would look around while hiking this Summer. Beautiful rocks.
You were pretty close to Little Pine Garnet Mine! They recently brought in the excavator and tore up the tailings pile. I live in Franklin. Ya’ll going to Chunky Gal? Take your UV lights!
I think so keep that so you can show people when they come to your house!is it yellow blue? Derick?? It's cool Kyle yeah!looks like piece of gold on top!! I bet ya could find gold in there too
Awesome to see you guys searching for minerals and gemstones. Love kyanite and beryl. I get you with the elevation change, that can really knock you. I live in a valley surrounded by tall mountains. TFS 💖🦅🦅
We have the same minerals here in NH! Awesome finds! It is hard to get those crystals out of the matrix. Is the moonstone a type of Labradorite? What a cool place to visit, so good to see you two on an adventure!!
I really enjoyed this video. I was exhausted with you. And I’m starving waiting for Andy to come home with dinner. I have a feeling he is staying later at work then he planned. Anyway thank you for any and all content you have done. If you are looking for something new, you can try to find Centralia in Hernando County near Brooksville Florida. Apparently not many people have found the remnants of this 100+ year old logging community. It’s on the maps. lol ✌🏻❤️🙂🙏
Hey guys great video, however, I don’t think you made it all the way to the Mas Celo, it’s a huge square area cut out of the top of the mtn, with 75 foot vertical walls. Did you see the big adit? Not much in that however… keep them coming!!
Did you guys just keep going up up up? I've been there a lot and am curious what area y'all were at. Did you follow the little trail up that goes right alongside the pits? Thanks!
Ohh I want him!! I had lotta beagles, I'll just take him!! Beautiful beautiful mountains I rode all my ponies in my woods everyday!!love ya too Derrick Kyleyeah does I like the pieces , make me necklace with the claremont blue, ill
Question, I have some garnet that is still raw with composite on them. What do I do to clean them? Do I need a rock tumbler? Or is there maybe a jeweler that could do??? Just wondering. Please let me know, Kyle. Thank you!!💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
that kyanite is bluetiful! wonder if a diluted citric acid bath would do the trick cleaning it up? too bad you guys didn’t find any aqua. or did you?🧐hmmm. lol!
I love blue Kyanite! I would soak them in Iron out for a few days, then give them a good toothbrush scrubbing! I live in Florida now, but I grew up in CT, and if you ever want to plan a trip and fly up to CT, I know of a mine with beautiful aquamarine and heliador and black tourmaline and also a mine with green and watermelon tourmaline!
You were probably winded because of the higher elevation more than anything. 👍 I can relate. We moved to just outside of Yellowstone, along the Rockies, about 8 yrs. ago.
How can we all be from the same state? Everyone I come across whilst doing the same activities as y'all look at me like they've never seen anyone looking for rocks etc and think I'm either crazy or stupid. Plus my friends make fun of me for having a rock addiction. Thank you for being you and doing what you do.
Kyanite can be grayish in color too. Do you think that's it? Or did it look more blue than we see on our screens. I saw the blue shards in one of y'all's hand but that was the only blue that I saw
Damn, yall were SO CLOSE to the main kyanite mine, you must have stopped just a quarter mile short of the real deal. I've been to the Ray several times, also once hiked up to the "Little Ray" which was an extended working up the hill and to the right, and once I also hiked to the very top to the Mas Celo Kyanite mine, got me a few gorgeous pieces (including my semi-famous) "kyanite football". You guys got "nearish" to the main kyanite mine, but if you want the "holy crap" pieces, you have to go around the summet, through the trees past an old dilapidated trailer, and you'll find the mouth of the Mas Celo adit. In the winter time, it forms ice stalagtites on the roof and and "goblets" on the floor. (stalagmites that melt a hole in the top, and collect water like a little frozen chalice, its gaddamn magical, as the water drips from the ceiling, and drips into all the little ice chalices, it plays a song). If I ever run into you guys down thataways, Ill hike to the Mas Celo with you and show you the REAL source of the kyanite. (The walls have blue crystals as big as your hand) Based on the impressive kyanite you found, you were CLOSE to the Mas Celo. Here are some photos from a local geology club's site, shows the adit and the inside of the actual kyanite mine: www.mcrocks.com/ftr09-1/KosickiFebruary2009.html If I had to guess, yall were on the dirtbike trails near the mine or actually on the old mine road where they used to haul the kyanite out on trucks. You were definitely within a half to quarter mile of the real deal. IF you would like me to send photos of kyanite from INSIDE the Mas Celo, hit me up: rmkearney@yahoo.com But I haven't been active with rock collecting since around 2015-2016 and your video REALLY made me want to go back. Did you know you were also less than 20 miles from one of the only EMERALD producing sites in NC? Next time you are in the area you should check out the Crabtree emerald mine (no, NOT the salted place on the way to the crabtree, but the legit real crabtree!). It used to be managed by the MAGMA club, not sure if they still control access or not, but you basically sign a waiver at the Emerald Village site (tourist trap mine on the way) and pay $20 and then you can go dig for legit emeralds in the tailings of the Crabtree. I have found actual gem grade emerald only twice there, but both times I jumped in the air and celebrated like Yukon Cornelius. The Ray mine is not only a fantastic geological site, but also just a beautiful place to be. I always found it to be so peaceful and love being there. Dangit, not I've gotta figure out a way to get down there this spring! ((after the winter freeze-thaw and spring storms, the creek really gives up the goods~!))
That is awesome, to pick up crystals off of the ground,in a couple of weeks, I'm planning on going to Hardin Kentucky, to look for purple Fluorite crystals, and hopefully,I will run into the crystal collector, Bryan Major, he supposed to be there, this will be awesome, I'm going to bring a few crystals with me, that I've found, and I'm going to give the crystal collector,a big piece of malachite, it's from the Congo
