New Zealand made a terrible mistake by shutting out the Republic from the super rugby and giving the South African super rugby teams an easy out to join the northern hemisphere. The NZ Rugby also sees no problem in putting Australian rugby to the sword (seemingly through arrogance) this does no-one any favors

South Africa left on their own accord mainly because the rest of super rugby was fed up with SA designing the competition around them and no one else. SA was the reason the biassed conference system was brought in. Purely because nz was far too dominant

Well he’s the CEO of Nz rugby and these are all kiwis and it’s a New Zealand based show, so sorry if you’re annoyed they’re not dropping their jobs and dedication to New Zealand to help out the islanders. Now as an outsider to all of it I think they’ve really woken up to the fact that league is posing a threat in the pacific and that the rugby world and international scene benefits from having Fiji Tonga and Samoa as competitive as possible which is why they’ve welcomed teams in for these fans and here discussed the idea of adding Fiji or one of Tonga and Samoa to the rugby championship and play in those countries so that they can have more revenue, more experience and money to build up their own squads and more support for the game. So really I don’t know what you’re complaining about to be honest, of course this in the long term is to secure rugby and therefore boost revenue in New Zealand but if it helps the other island nations and helps rugby why are we fighting it

PI doesn’t operate on a shoestring, they exploit all that NZ rugby has built for its own sons, along with filling their national teams with second generation PI heritage players that were born, raised & rugbyised in NZ (incidentally, Auckland has more Polynesians in it then all the rest of the world combined) then they come online and cry poor to the rest of the world. …."Aww man, all we’ve got is the totality of the NZ rugby system at our disposal and tropical island paradises to hang out in, poor fuggin us aye broooooo". …..Nah, not buying that schidtt mate.

Agree, it's been garbage. The end of the La Rochelle game - I thought that player was lying dead on the pitch. In effect these games are resolved via officiation, penalization and the rules being a mess causing players to either be red carded for a dangerous tackle or else giving a game changing penalty away or some other random factor. Super Rugby is mostly boring as well losing the Saffa teams.

Two tests with Fiji home and away in addition to inviting them into the RC, very interesting if they can get both tests within the sanctioned test window since playing a weakened Fiji side without their European contingent isn't a good thing for competitive rugby.

Questions could be asked on ‘Who’ is getting paid and how much outside of the players and peripheral expenditure. Clarity on financial allocation plus all the added revenue produced in between would prove selfless transparency. We shouldn’t lose sight of this being a sport, a spectacle rather than big business. I’ll be an old white man one day, but hey, it ain’t about me… 🌎🏉❤

Honestly, 10 or so years ago or even longer, I remember loving the exciting Super Rugby games but that was when Aus were part of the competitive competition along with the Saffas. Then it used ot be the Kiwi games and now with half-empty stadiums and no competition I completely gave up on Union. NH has grown professionally but the rugby is still very stodgy not like the Super Rugby back 10+ years or more where it was end to end quick running exciting rugby. Tbh, I've switched wholesale to NRL and loving the Warriors this year. You can follow the game and most of the time the skill and building of phases is cumulative leading to great plays and scores and some chance. Yeah even League has the odd dodgy ref call for a wrong type of tackle but it's a lot better officiation and rule system that does not get in the way of the game unlike Union today and as a result you get breath-taking rugby and scintillatign games with tons of competitiveness. Bloody hell even the Tigers scored +60pts iirc! Sure it's a smaller game than Union but if I was coaching kids rugby today or wanted to still play I'd choose League: More ball and more running and passing and tackling rugby. 7s is great too but half the fun of sevens is it stayed amateurish thanks to the top players being absorbed by Union which then means it's not like Union where it's professional and turned into a massive grind. There's still room for flair and innovation by individual players as well as fewer players on the pitch who also become fatigued - all things Union used to have in amateur day but now where Wingers are 6'5" and 15 juggernauts on the pitch there's less space and too much risk so penalties and kicking dominate with grinding and then the jackal thing kills the game too... This speech is all business and spreadsheets but says almost nothing about the actual state of the game itself. Just putting this view out there as personal opinion, other views exist but that's the way it seems to me. Yeah NRL and State Of Origin incoming with a brilliant 7s world series all leaves Union in all forms far behind: I've got few hopes for the WC this year reversing that...

After 2026 the Rugby Championship 🏆 should include: New Zealand 🇳🇿 South Africa 🇿🇦 Australia 🇦🇺 Argentina 🇦🇷 Japan 🇯🇵 USA 🇺🇲 With Fiji and Samoa 🏉 being eligible for promotion relegation against the 6th ranked team.🏆
@FloodyNZ
@FloodyNZ Год назад
Considering South Africa will probably look to play in the 6 Nations by then I think we should make it an 8 team comp with Fiji, Samoa and Tonga added. Nz needs to align their season to match the northern hemisphere season. We can play all our pro rugby in spring and summer months hopefully attracting more fans to stadiums with the longer days, better weather and holiday/party season. Then when it comes to playing the new rugby championship in June/July the island nations will have all their best players available and will get games against 4 top nations every year. Also I think if the Bledisloe Cup was decided on just one game it would make for better atmospheres and tension amongst fans and players, it might even give Australian rugby the kick up the arse it needs if they were to win it back
@user-cs4sm9ve7t
@user-cs4sm9ve7t Год назад
@@FloodyNZ we can throw Tonga into the mix but I'm not sure if they'll be able to compete financially and performance wise with the rest (the last thing the comp needs is another Italy being wooden spooners for a decade). I doubt the Boks would want to miss out on playing the All Blacks so 6 Nations will probably keep the status quo. The Southern Hemisphere's TRC would be way better than the 6 Nations and USA should be keen to join in order to prep for their 2031 World Cup on home soil. Also, when you're already playing in Argentina a flight to North America won't seem too rigorous. We could do like the 6 Nations and have 2 consecutive weekends of playing, a rest week and then repeat x3. It would be amazing for the South if SANZAAR and World Rugby could grow a pair and make it happen. Hopefully they can pull off a global season by then. Just my 2c.

Nope, SA will be playing in Europe. This wont happen
@FloodyNZ
@FloodyNZ Год назад
@@user-cs4sm9ve7t Whilst I agree that Tonga would likely struggle in a comp like that, I can’t see the point in them sitting on the outside and having no one to play against, i think they would become a lot more competitive before you knew it. I also believe if the pacific islands had guaranteed tests every year against top nations, NZ, Aus, Jap, Arg then more players might be inclined to play for the islands. I don’t think it would take long before they’re competing at a serious level. If our season aligned with the north then all the best pacific island players playing in Europe would be available for international duty due to their club season being over. And as for playing South Africa regularly the we could always do it as part of an end of year tour

Unfortunately USA will have to get itself in order after not qualifying for the world cup in France, at least Canada is taking the initiative hiring Steve Aboud to help with their sorely needed grassroots development and structure after he did wonders for Ireland and Italy off the pitch.
