So, it's Joshua Becker's neighbor's daughter who started him on decluttering, who started Dawn on decluttering, who started all her followers on decluttering, so cheers to Joshua's neighbor's daughter! 👏👏👏🥳🥳🎉🎉

I love how owning less stuff makes housecleaning so easy. And, so true, that buying less stuff frees up money for experiences
@MyFocusVaries

That is so true. That spurred our family taking minimalism to the next level. Dusting an end table and realizing we never turned on the lamps that sat on it. We donated the lamps and tables so not only didn't have to dust them, but vacuuming is much easier too. So I looked at our house and thought about the function of each room and assessed everything in it.

Two of my favorite people together in one video! Love all the 2 of you do! So, I have always been a minimalist. Even when it didn’t have a label!😂 When I bought my first house in 1992 a friend came over to see it. She walked in and said “Where is all your stuff?” And I wasn’t sure how to answer. I told her I had always lived like this it is easier to move. At that time had moved many many times. 😊 Thanks for making me look like I’m not a weirdo!

I tend to forget I already have something I don't use often and end up getting another. This is slowly ending as I declutter enough to finally get all the like items together and get rid of duplicates and finally pick one place where I would look for it. I still have scattered tools and repair things in several places that I need to organize so I know what I already own. Getting there.

I first saw Joshua here on utube, started to purge, and donate it was right after my parents passed and I had to sell their home, and my siblings and I started to purge their belongings. My husband and I although we lived simply we decided to Swedish death clean so our own children wouldn’t have what we had to do with my parents home. Soon after this I found Dawn here on utube, this was going on 7 years ago… I love living Minimally, cleaning and keeping my home is so easy, I love the both of you with all my heart, bless you both ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ I met Joshua , and his beautiful family in Charlotte on his book tour, and Joshua did sign my book which sits proudly in a place of honor in my home, and I only kept 6 books The Minimalist Home is one book I will NEVER DONATE

It's so funny I never really recognized the neighbors name was June. My name is June, we are currently doing the floors upstairs. We have to shift stuff around to do it and it dawned on me yesterday trying to move stuff "I don't need all this stuff". It's not actually adding value to my life or making me happy at this point. So I grabbed a bag started purging my closet. I ended up with two full garbage bags. I am going to make a second pass at the clothes and I'm going through all the stuff upstairs before we actually put the house back together. I'm over the clutter and the stuff that I have to manage that adds zero value to my life and the life of my family. I could spend my time enjoying life with my family.

Oh wow! He nailed the struggle my husband and I had. I handle the entire household so I was drawn to having less to clean and manage. My husband carried the financial load outside of the home so therefore he felt like it was wasteful to get rid of so much that he worked to buy in the first place. We’ve come a long way but that helped me understand why we felt differently.
@JaneH3675
@JaneH3675 4 месяца назад
Thank you telling this. Maybe that's why I find it easier to let go of things than my husband does. I decluttered our living spaces, living room bathroom kitchen and my own personal spaces, but I did not touch his personal spaces. He was okay with this arrangement.

His book _The More of Less,_ combined with Courtney Carver and a few others, was what I needed to finally declutter everything that needed it, not because I didn't want to or didn't have the motivation, but because I really wanted to but I didn't know how exactly to go about it because my mom never taught me. Once I finally learned exactly how to do it, I went through my stuff and got rid of 15 boxes full in the first 2 months - most of that stuff went to reservations and other charities that needed those specific types of items, and most of the rest went to my alma mater's womens' dorms because that school has a specific dress code and, since I had already graduated, I needed only a fraction of the quantity that I needed while still in school, and I knew they would be able to make use of them (it makes me happy whenever I see someone wearing something that I donated to the dorms); that was going on 7 years ago, and I've been in maintenance mode for about 5 years - maintenance mode will never end, but it's so much easier handling cleaning and other housework now that I've pared down. I've taken aspects of his, Courtney's, yours, Dana's, Cas's, and others, and together they've all helped me with different parts of the decluttering process, so different formats do speak to people in different ways and it can definitely take a combination for it to click, but once you find what works for you, it all makes sense.

This is the perfect place to share my story with Dawn and Joshua! I don't remember much about the very first Minimal Mom video I ever watched (she might have been sharing a bit of her story), except at some point in the video she said "did you know that you don't have to own all this stuff?!" That was all I needed to hear. The only picture of minimalism I'd ever seen up to that point was tiny houses, stark white walls and little succulents. Not a reality for a homeschool mom of 5, and I love color! Dawn, your home full of beauty and color was proof a minimalist didn't have to give up that beauty (I love your kitchen cabinets!). My husband admits he was a little hesitant at first, but trusted me and didn't discourage me, and it wasn't long before he was totally on board too! That was 3 years ago and our lives are changed forever. I never want to go back to where we were. Our kids are thriving, our home is so peaceful, we're tackling our fixer upper house one remdel at a time, we're pursuing dreams that seemed so far away under all the stuff we thought we were supposed to keep. We love our home. Dawn, you are doing the Lords work, thank you for being this voice.

I have spent the last year or so decluttering my house. My mom even asked me once if we got new kitchen countertops and all we did was have them cleared off! I still have the mindset that cleaning is going to take so long and I hate it. And then I clear and wipe the flat surfaces, have the kids pick up their toys, vacuum the floors and occasionally mop and I'm done. And then I still look around at like What am I forgetting?
