I feel the same way with not wanting to take meds but if it can possibly improve the quality of life no harm in trying and just making sure it’s the smallest dose of whatever medication so you can adjust as needed, just be very upfront with the doctor with your concerns, i hope you can find what works for you!

There are many alternative coping skills you can learn from a therapist before trying medication. The therapist can give you referrals to specialists and psychiatrists if you want specific testing and diagnosis. If you don’t like the first therapist you see, go see a different one, everyone has their own style.

It could just be adhd he just sounds anxious and certain things trigger him but there’s coping mechanisms like mindfulness where he can learn holistic ways to help himself and ground himself he should look into holistic things but it’s all just being self aware try mindfulness it works and helps bring down a lot of anxious tics The part where Nat touched him and he calms down is because she makes you feel safe when you are in that high moment place your hand over your heart it’ll ground you too it’ll have the same effect as Nat touching you and grounding you

This entire video was so wholesome. The fact that you guys waited to post this video until Jake felt ready says so much about the relationship and the respect you have for each other. I work at a pediatric clinic; we see ages all the way up until 21. Usually, when parents start noticing a certain behavior in their child, they go to their primary care provider to be evaluated, and then if the doctor diagnoses the patient with something, they will be referred to the indicated specialist. I think you guys should definitely start off by going to your primary care provider! Love you guys so much!!!!

I really liked this podcast a lot. Definitely one of my favorites. As someone who works with kids with autism (which many are diagnosed with ADHD as well), the most important thing is being patient. Sometimes they know what they want to say but the words don’t come out and it can be incredibly frustrating. So just a little extra love and support goes a long way. Don’t pay attention to people who have rude and negative things to say. You’re a team and you guys will get through it together 🤍

I feel for Jake so much, explaining is sometimes really hard for me as well but for me is more because of anxiety… but i still think a therapist or maybe even meditation could help. Im so glad Jake’s open to talk about it and I’m glad Nat’s able to make him feel safe and grounded

I think Jake should go to a therapist, my whole life I knew I had bipolar disorder. I got a diagnosed once I went to therapy. but I am extremely proud of Jake for being able to talk about what he has because its truly hard to talk about these kinds of things.

Jake! I was diagnosed with ADHD at 27 years old, this year.. and I felt the same way about being scared about getting addicted to the medicine, but as soon as I took it, I was finally able to get work done and not feel my brain going in a million different ways. I was also diagnosed with anxiety and it turn out I was misdiagnosed with anxiety because I really had ADHD and sometimes things that are "normal" for other people, is REALLY overwhelming for us and causes anxiety! Don't be afraid of the medicine. It is there to help you. It was the best thing to ever happen to me. I'm actually kind of sad that I've lived my whole life thinking I was living a "normal" life. I always thought it was a "personality trait". It does not change your personality, it just helps you focus on one task rather than thinking of a million things at one time. You will still be you, just more organized and less anxious. I simply called to make an appointment with my primary doctor about possibly having ADHD. I talked with my primary provider and she had me answer a questionnaire that took me 5-10 mins to fill out, in the office. It was clear as day that I had ADHD by my responses to the scenarios on the questionnaire. If they can't determine it right then and there, they may have you go to a physiatrist to get diagnosed, which is totally fine and what they're there for. Make the call! I promise you, it is life-changing in the best way possible ! :)
@xxvoid4
@xxvoid4 11 месяцев назад
Jacob needs to see a physiatrist, they are the ones who diagnose, you can make a appointment at the hospital and they will do a examination test/speak to someone. I have had spoken to my physiatrist virtually and you can visit the hospital to take the online test there which takes 15 minutes and it’s free. I’ve been in therapy for over 10 years and they’re not meant to diagnose a patient, it could make the patient spiral which is why they do not do that. I’ve watched you guys for awhile and I am a psychologist major, with also experience in mental health, and I am most positive Jacob struggles with ADD/ADHD. My childhood best friend has ADD and she can function normally but she is always shaky and can hyper-fixate on different, random stuff. Medication can help but it will be a struggle because it is a journey. I had a long term partner that has ADHD and she struggled with taking medication for it, it made her depressed. She was already a drug addict and the best decision we decided was to stop the medication because I noticed she was going down a different path with medication behind my back (I also take medications for my mental health) which was a dark time for my ex-girlfriend. People with ADD/ADHD stim differently, their brain has a shorter attention span and it is not about them being bored-It is hard to explain the brain. It would be great for Jacob to see a therapist as they can help him learn coping skills and can help Nat to be informed, I feel like this can help Nat to understand Jacob better and not get frustrated. Therapy is for everyone and kudos to Nat for sticking with Jacob and learning how to understand his needs.
@rachelpineda3199
@rachelpineda3199 11 месяцев назад
I understand how Jacob feels because. I have ADHD and I have had it since I was little. I went to the doctor and they sent me to a psychiatrists and diagnosed me with it. I will say, that when I was little,I was on medication and it was really hard on me because I lost hella weight and was always sad and I didn’t feel like myself. When I got into high school I decided to not take it for 4 years and I thought I could live without medication. But now that I’m out of high school I will say that it’s harder to get some of my goals done bc I get distracted easily or I don’t have the courage to get thing I need to get done. Right now I’m on my mission to get back on my medication and try out different medication that will not do the same thing the old medication did to me. So I would say talk to you doctor first. And I honestly think you are blessed to have nat in your life because she will put you in check and is a very understanding person with anything you need and I think having someone in your life like that is very helpful when you have ADHD.

hi nat and jake 👋🏼 i have a bachelor's in social work and it definitely sounds like jake might have adhd or some type of anxiety, i recommend you guys seek out a psychologist if he doesn't want to go through traditional therapeutic services. talking isn't easy and medication is not the only option if he does end up getting this diagnosis. look into holistic coping mechanisms and this might sound kiddy but fidgets are also a huge coping mechanism in these cases. i hope you find the help you're seeking, best wishes to you both 🫶🏼

I love this video! Nat and Jake deep diving into mental health. I say starting off with therapy, everything that Jake problems are the same exact problems I have and I have ADHD. I was diagnosed with ADHD since I was in 4th grade and now I’m 18 and graduated high school. I feel for you Jake and I also how Nat is being so supportive and not shutting out Jake that’s true love. NAT IS SAYING SO MUCH REAL STUFF your won’t get help until you want to.

i definitely relate to you jake!! i am the exact same way and whenever i notice you having a delayed speech or adhd, i feel for you because its hard to control it. ill feel like ill make sense when speaking to someone, but the other person gives me a confused look and i just want to shut up and never speak again lmao. or if i remember to slow down my speech, then i feel like im talking too slow and like a bich bc of the way im speaking, if that makes sense. i would recommend a speech therapist or take adhd medication because im also self diagnosing myself with adhd.

look up the adhd medication focalin! i took it every other day or 3x a week and i felt more productive, more focused, more confident in my speaking. i didnt feel like it drained me but it couldve been because i only took it a few times a week but thats the first and only medication my doctor prescribed me! you can start with a visit to your primary doctor and see what she thinks. dont think less of yourself though, youre not alone ! thank you nat and jake for being so transparent because these are topics that are sensitive but you never know who can relate!

I definitely understand Jake. I am the exact same way. I can never stay still and constantly have to do something and won’t even realized that my fingers are tapping or my feet keep moving, etc. I understand that it may annoy someone but sometimes you just don’t realize you’re doing it. I start talking fast and get nervous and start fumbling my words. I started going to therapy because I don’t know how to control it and thought something was wrong with me. Your therapist will give you the option to take medication to help you or you don’t have to take medication, instead they can help you learn different exercises to learn how to cope on your own! (I chose not to take medication, the little “exercises” that I was taught by my therapist have helped me cope with myself on my daily life!) ADHD is not easy but you can always work on making it more manageable to live with! 😊

First I’d like to say it’s wholesome to see Nat and Jake grow in their relationship and see how they care for eachother. Nat waiting for Jake to share this story may seem like the bare minimum but I think it’s so heartwarming to see that and my respect for Nat has grown. I think what Jake probably needs is therapy like what Nat said. Maybe it could be cognitive behavioral therapy? I believe this type of therapy studies ones behavior and goes down to why they do it.

Jake reminds me so much of my ex I told him he may suffer from ADHD as well but unfortunately he started binge drinking to calm himself down, always recommended therapy, finding facebook group of others with diagnosis, reading about it, podcasts, youtube videos for research or even going to gym with him on daily basis and making him healthy meals to calm him down but eventually he gave up. don’t be afraid to be diagnosed can always request physical from doctor and bring up your concerns so they can recommend you to a therapist 😁

Look into ADHD! My sister has it and she has some of your symptoms. BUT I would SUGGEST not to take pills for it if your doctor prescribed it. My sister took the ADHD pills and she lost a lot of weight and was just calm like alllll the time like she didn’t want to play, in class she was just zoned out. It’s like she was in her own world. This is just my suggestion! If I was you I would find something to do. Like a figit or something similar. ❤❤

I am no expert at anything that I am saying but I'm saying from personal experiences. We started with a therapist for him and it really helped him and he was diagnosed with social anxiety and ADHD i have seen so many positive changes with his speech and I think it would really help Jake to see a very good therapist and do a lot of research and a consultation with the therapist before your first set appointment.

not trying to place blame but can i offer some unsolicited advice, nat you should consider stopping insinuating there’s something wrong with jake bc wether he does have adhd or not it’s not his fault and i really empathize with jake bc as someone with adhd i know exactly what you are feeling and i just want you to know there is nothing wrong with you, i also struggle with my wording (if you couldn’t tell lol) but jake you shouldn’t be scared i know it’s almost frustrating not knowing what’s wrong with you but getting a diagnosis actually truly fast and easy, also something the has really helped me is playing a easy game on my phone ( i like one more brick you don’t need to multitask with this game) i usually struggle when i’m watching tv so i hope that helps again all love too you both i know it’s sometimes hard as a partner not knowing how to handle certain situations but i can say certain insecurities are avoidable and there are better ways than flat out saying “you need to talk to a therapist” bc that has to be one’s chose when they are ready and i know nat comes from love ❤57:46

Not diagnosing Jacob but I think he might have ADHD because I have it and all my siblings have it along with most of my family and they can't sit still and they also do that spacing out thing that you can hear the person but you're spacing out so I think you should consider that. Again not a therapist or doctor especially since I don't know Jacob like that but I think that should be a consideration and mentioned when you do get the help you need and I hope you guys do figure it out so he gets help. Love you guys!

Just wanted to put it out there. When you get diagnosed with ADHD or any other diagnosis you don’t need to take medication as a form of treatment. There are other treatments that help you self regulate your ADHD. If you are struggling don’t wait for later seek care now and make sure you advocate your needs and emphasize you don’t want medication.

I would suggest for jake to talk to his primary care provider then get a referral to a psychologist/ psychiatrist :)

There's different types of medication for ADHD. It helps you focus. You might not be as energetic but you won't lose your personality. There are some side effects but you try different medications. You have to be careful with that because I took a medication and lost weight because I didn't have a appetite and the doctor refused to take me off it. But that's just cause they were a bad doctor

Yea I think I Lowkey deal with something similar like Jake when I’m eating or something I always need to have my iPad or phone just for it to be there cause I don’t even pay attention sometimes and let’s say I’m laying down watching yt or a show I need to have something in my hand or when I’m in class even if we not writing anything or no need for a pen I need to have a pen or something in my hand to fidget with.

I hate to say this Nat but if Jake is hyperactive and I think he is because his focus is a mile a minute he has to avoid caffeine so Jake if you don't want meds try cutting caffeine out of your diet and see if it helps. Hyperactive kids do fidget a lot, they jump around from action to action, or topic to topic...and communication is hard because the brain is shooting through topics faster then the speech can come out
