*My niece spent £10k on her first car a couple of weeks back, after getting the all clear from Car Vertical. A couple of days later she finds it was bought/sold as salvage after being stolen and recovered. Seems that report was a waste of time and money. Even worse she now owns a car with a dubious past!* 🤬😡🤬😡😡
CarVertical is a scummy company. Just google carvertical ico and read how they got their funding by promising a useful crypto token then just using the money as seed investment and never making the token actually do anything, causing all the ico investors hold a bag of shit. Please stop taking their ads.
Ex-owner here, glad you're enjoying the car and that the power fix was simple! I've had it on MHD stage 1 for ages with no trouble (hence the ~350hp I mentioned), doing 2nd and 3rd gear pulls in manual mode never got old :) The air filter part cracked me up; I was going to keep those cones for my own car and trying to fit a stock box on the day but it wouldn't go back in properly so I gave up and looks like I didn't tighten the damn things. Cone intakes are greatly debated in the 335 community but the whoosh sounds are fun and they shouldn't heat soak much if you've got a decent intercooler. Got them on my current 335 and getting 30-40C IATs with an upgraded intercooler. Stock airbox temps are comparable. Look forward to seeing what you do with it next (maybe a gearbox flash tune?). PS: Consider upgrading the MOSFETs as the MSD80 ones are known to go when running higher power levels. This was fixed in MSD81 ('08 and above) but it's a more involved process making it work with the CAS.
@@asimmalik6378 I tried to comment but I included another YT link and it got deleted. These are the transistors that control the ignition coils, and apparently they're at risk of burning out when the car is tuned (for the MSD80 ECU in 2006 and 2007 models so if you have a later year you should have the MSD81 ecu with uprated components). If you search "335i dme80 mosfet repair" you'll find more info
@@asimmalik6378 transistors. BMW Uses transistors inside the DME To provide the signals to the injector. Transistors boost the signal to deliver the current and Pd needed to actuate the injectors. The pulse-width-control(PWC) Signal comes from these I believe. Can lead to non starting, misfires if not replaced.
Why else did we click on the Video? Best thing to come out of everyone leaving Car Throttle is we now have FIVE channels making Car Vertical ads for us to enjoy.......sometimes some content makes it through the cutting floor
YES PLEASE!! I drive a 2012 KIA Picanto manual 1,2. Real death trap. Found out I've had a loose subframe bolt since before the car was even bought. Would love to see what can be made of them haha
As an a fella who watched OG TG when it launched in 01 as an adult... your channel brings me much of the same joy I would get from those episodes as well. You can tell you're not just cohosts you're actual friends and thats what made TG/GT so much more than a car show. Keep it up!
@@Mickulty sometimes all the screaming, shouting and scripted behavior is over the top for my liking, especially when they deliberately damage cars for no reason.
I have modded a couple of N54s, what I learned was the engine itself is quite reliable, whats bolted to it not so much. Turbo wastegates, charge pipes, intercoolers, solenoids, pcv valve and vacuum pipes are all potential problems and direct injection leads to carbon build up ion the intake valves. But it is all fixable, and there is a big N54 community to help you understand it. As you saw space is tight but the tuning potential is there, 400hp on stock turbos is as you can see quite easy. Replaceing them with slightly bigger units gives you 500 hp plus potential. The stock block sees its limit at around 7-800hp as its not a closed deck. The ZF 6 speed auto is a decent auto box with good reliability and can work really well with an XHP tune. In New Zealand a 335i can be had for less than 10k nzd, the poor mans 2jz. 😂😂
It's wild to me just how fast the 54 series motor went from a tuner darling when new to an absolute afterthought with the 55 and especially with the 58 series.
@@syaieya But has it? N55s have a much lower tuning threshold and B58's, while excellent, are not in affordable cars yet. N54s are still getting tuned regularly where I am from, in fact it can be hard to find one that does at least have a charge pipe and MHD stage 1 tune. The biggest issue is that they are 17 years old now and lack of maintenance by boy racers has meant some are ina sad state. Just like Will's car.
@@syaieya the b58 is the new tuner engine. Massive gains with just a downpipes and stage 1 map. Also very reliable and a water to air intercooler so intake temps are always cold.
@tubejorrit Yes, they do have great tuning potential especially the later B58s with seperate exhaust ports. However, the cars they come in are still not cheap yet.
@@johnherbert5919 really its just hearing the tuner in the video echo what i hear from others when i bring up the Z4 or E90 series. The japanese hero cars, LS, and even things like the supercharged Mercs are all older but it just feels like time didnt treat the N54 as kind for how often you would see these things get that tuner treatment when new.
To everybody who thinks: "N54s can't be that bad and they make massive power for cheap - I am going to get one!" Don't! - Regards from an N54 owner, wwhich currently runs great.
I just spent £850 getting 19t hybrid turbos rebuilt and around 16 hours in total replacing them on the driveway. These cars are cheap to buy but usually not cheap to run and maintain.
noo please don't disappoint me. the 335i and the 330i are my alternate choices if I can't find a decent 1JZ or 2JZ for cheap. are they really that problematic? what are the most common things to look out for?
@@csuree87 Charge pipe and turbo wastegates are the worst ones... charge pipe because it likes to exolode for no reason at all, and turbo wastegates because they're both super annoying and quite expensive to replace.
What I don’t get with these people who mod cars with no understanding is those stupid cone air filters. The manufacturers put an intercooler to cool the air before the turbo then these twerps put those stupid air filters in the engine compartment usually over the manifold so it’s feeding red hot air into the intercooler thus negating any benefit
Will and Edwin got such great relations and passion for cars- a pleasure to watch each time! Will's speach and acting are miles ahead from the first releases level- great guy! Taylor becomes a cameo person between the channels- always brings positive emotions to each episode he appears in.
you can't blame that IC... yet. loose those intakes, recheck the temps with stock airbox, you may find that the IC is fine. Also, you could measure out the internals of the IC to compare with the stock one to see if it's an improvement. Often the stock one is tightly packed but has actually decent volume to it. Of course, the aftermarket should flow better, but careful not to loose (or gain) too much volume.
Fun as always. How about some fun with something a bit different, say old SAABs? Can't say I've seen too many people having fun with old 99's or 900's.
@@samuelgarrod8327 Really ?. I tune Saabs for a living and the engines can make 500bhp with zero engine mods. They are massive fun. Some models can go from 150bhp to 305bhp for just £125. The SAAB Clinic UK.
@@samuelgarrod8327 because the people who drive them couldnt care less about power, even some 99 turbo drivers use them as a simple fuel efficient runabout car
Edwin, i will admit, i was wrong. I wasnt a fan of your chemistry on CT. With Will however, this is quickly becoming my favourite channel. Keep it up chaps!
N54 335i owner here. I love the platform for some sweet power. Own the car for 5 years now and invested about 10k Eur in this time period. Results: 600hp and 665nm. XHP trans tune stage 3, MHD stage 2+, downpipes, VRSF straight pipe, Turbosystems hybrid turbos and 3 inch inlets and outlets. Thats it. YOU can do it aswell.
The fact that only one part was needed to be replaced in order to get your boost back is incredible! Really enjoying the channel btw, nice and varied but on a similar theme - looking forward to the V2 channel as well.
Loved my 335i, was great fun but relentless gremlins bugged it. I really want to build another one, have a shed full of the FBO parts needed to do it again, if they get cheaper then it might be fun to do. Great content again from the TDC lads.
06 335i owner here. Get the gearbox XHP flashed, it makes an enormous difference. MHD stage 2+ is 400+ HP, 600Nm. Enable 1M throttle, it removes the horrid lag but makes the pedal ultra sensitive. Leave exhaust burbles off unless you're a fan of a £1400 valve stem oil seal job. Enable two-step with multimap support Then, enjoy 50 miles of quick motoring before the CEL comes on.
Reminds me of a few years ago when I bought a van with my old man. We got 1/4 mile up the road before the engine light threw, so drove it back (bought from a mechanic) and a vacuum line had popped off. Quick start and some maneuvering later and it was gone.
I can't believe you can buy a E92 335i for 2500!! Thats alot of car for the money. Here in Greece they ask 20-30k for them!!! Although I own a E46, I believe the E92 is the best looking 3 series ever made.
I've got a 2010 330D E92. The 240 (or less) HP from mine is plenty enough for me on UK roads. Mine hasn't broken down in the 28,000 miles my wife and I have driven it (it's at 135k miles now), but it has had quite a lot of stuff replaced: EGR, alarm unit in rear wheel well, aux belt and tensioners, oil & oil filters 3 times, air filter, cabin filter, fuel filter, brake fluid, front & rear shock absorbers, water pump, glow plug control unit, new tyres at all 4 corners, windscreen wiper blades, xenon headlamp bulbs
@@lint8391Would you recommend a replacing the EGR system? Or opting for the delete option with the idea of prolonging the life span of the car? Currently have the conundrum that the EGR is nearing the end and don’t know which way to lean.
@@Oscar-cz3se With my EGR valve, the previous owner had replaced it with non-genuine one. This started giving annoying intermittent misfires very soon after I bought it. The seller agreed to pay for me to fix it. Which I did by taking it to my local BMW specialist who fitted a genuine BMW EGR. With him strongly recommending genuine BMW EGR's only. He said they usually last about 100,000 miles. So, at around about 207,000 miles I'll be replacing it again. It looks like a not too difficult job as it's at the top front of the engine. I have a Launch 919, that I'm hoping will be OK for calibrating any new EGR's....
@@tubejorrit 335D's were auto only. With either manual or auto box, they are really nice cars to drive. And OK on the MPG. The seats and ergonomics (eg cruise control on a stupid stalk) aren't as good as Volvos from that era. But yeah, every time I get in my 330D I'm reminded of what a good car it is to drive.
Hey Edwin and Will it was good too see you having Taylor help you with the BMW by putting new mods on it wow I can't believe that it's nearly making 400 BHP that is the the same amount as a Ferrari.
This channel is putting out much better stuff than auto Alex. Those guys are just posting "here's what I bought" videos, and not doing anything with them. TDC rules!
you guys are absolutely class. i loved every second of this video. genuinely hit the nail on the head with starting a channel. Alex you’ve got contenders 😅.
Make sure you snap the little cage to the oil filter cap, otherwise it'll rattle in there until you get rough idle with no codes. If it doesn't snap back on, new oil filter housing cap.
A friend of mine is working in GRIDSERVE Norwich. They have explained to me the biggest problem with the grid serve is the leasing. It’s not possible for them to make profit on any lease due to depreciation. They are scraping or making money apparently on high profit electric being solved top up vehicles, but overall there in negative profit
‘If it’s got boost Taylor’s getting it!’ 😂 I thought that was next level banter until ‘Taylor get your f@ckin’ trousers off!’ Awesome stuff, keep it up lads (no pun intended) 😁.
Great vid! Congrats on your first BMW N engine oil filter cartridge o-ring leak, most of us have experienced the same (saying this as a proud E8X owner)
I have been there a felt the pain for that vacuum line. If anyone is wondering, how to change it "easier". Go in from the top, remove the canisters and mounting brackets and the heatshield and you can get to it.
@grovsey3656 they only work if it's closed off from the engine bay heat like they, are for example on the later focus RS. If it's exposed to engine heat will lose a few bhp compared to a closed induction box
@SA-zoom1 turbos generate heat whatever the intake. It really makes sod all difference. We're talking 1-3 bhp and in the UK where it's barely above 20C all year round.
My N54 recently made 410bhp and 470ftlb with no hardware and just the MHD stage 1 + map - well high flow filter in the stock intake box but other than that it’s stock You guys should’ve gone for the 7.5inch stepped IC, stock air box and high flow filter and just used MHD stage 2 +. The maps are made by one of the best in the business You’d have been looking at 420-440bhp I reckon Looking forward to the next race video
Disconnected vacuüm line on a wastegate will leave the wastegate port shut resulting in all of the boost instead of no boost at all. I still loved the video.
