Sell the Vette and get that V12. Only you have the ability to bring it back to life. A rare car like this needs to be saved. You have the tools, the technology. You can make it stronger, faster, better....
Nothing but problems very fasst after u get through the turbo lag and the 1/4 its in the low 12z i believe not that impressive and yes its a gas guzzler foresure
It is a cool and rare car, to be sure. But one of the greatest? Ehh... I for one rather think about the 300SL Gullwing or some of the other oldtimers there. Call me crazy if you will, but I like those old cars - those were really built to last forever (almost). Whereas the newer ones, though still durable, have so many gadgets, bells, and whistles that some of them are sure to break. The more tech a machine has, the more things can break. PLUS you can still get parts for those oldtimers I spoke about earlier.
Please do not swap E55, but some less rare w211. Wouldn't be first tho, Speedriven and Brabus can help maybe with parts. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brabus_E_V12
The rollers used a Citroen hydraulic suspension licensed to them. They used it in all rollers. Citroen was fantastic for the hydraulic suspension esp in the DS 21 Pallas I was always happy to own.
I love it!! Earliest mass produced vehicle with hydraulic suspension that I can think of is the Citroen DS from the mid 1950s. The hydraulic suspension automatically leveled and also lowered down when parked for easy access. The hydraulic suspension also allows for wheel/tire changes without jacking the car up. It also had headlights that turned with the steering wheel that I believe were hydraulically operated as well.
That Rolls is a Silver Shadow Mulliner Park Ward 2 door saloon (wow what a mouthful). 6.25L all alloy V8 and quite rare. Height adjustable hydraulic suspension all round. '70 onwards they had a 6.75L engine , no height adjust on the front and was called the Corniche. That's what I've got sitting in my shed waiting for some love!
friends have an ex Australian Governor Generals Silver Shadow - iirc a 67 too - but longer than standard. Apparently the suspension on theirs is heavier duty and even more expensive then getting them to make the standard ones.
Looking forward to seeing some content of your Rolls! Oh, and it'll be also great if you get together with Sting and Copeland for some 'The Police' tribute 😉 haha.
More info on the wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolls-Royce_Silver_Shadow#Silver_Shadow "A distinctive feature was a high-pressure hydropneumatic suspension system licensed from Citroën, with dual-circuit braking and hydraulic self-levelling suspension. At first, both the front and rear of the car were controlled by the levelling system; the front levelling was deleted in 1969 as it had been determined that the rear levelling did almost all the work.[4] Rolls-Royce achieved a high degree of ride quality with this arrangement."
Technical info: the front A-pillar reinforcement is high-strength steel, the C-pillar aluminium. The roof, which includes the C-pillar "cover", is also aluminium. Meaning, you would have someone who could weld aluminium and find out how they joined both reinforcements, in case the rear one(s) is damaged, as obviously you can't weld steel with aluminium. My advice: leave it - am a C215 owner myself, and you want them as perfect as possible. BTW, the 55K is way more exciting to own long-term than the sedated 65TT, whose appeal wears off quite quickly.
Citroën DS had Hydropneumatic suspension in 1950's, they started putting it in passenger cars, so Rolls and Mercedes adopted it later on high end models.
I own an amazing cl 65 2008 with 100 k miles. Looks and runs as NEW.The best car I ever had. My favourite. The engine used alone is worth 15k the gear box at least 10k. Do the math.... Undervalued beast . What a car. What an amazing torque filled drive.
I’m fairly certain that CL65 had multiple collisions with multiple baseball bats and/or blunt objects. Easiest explanation of the isolated dents, smashed windows, etc.
Yep. It’s vandalism. From the owner perhaps? Tired of the looming brake, tire, reset service light bill, etc. Or, this car has maybe trickled down from an expensive, garaged neighborhood to a run down apartment building in a blighted part of town, and it caught the eye of a jealous ex-girlfriend’s husband.
Late in the day but (from England) I can tell you that this Rolls is an early Silver Shadow Coupe, the predecessor of the Corniche. Early Shadows had all round hydraulic self levelling which was deleted after 1971 in favour of rear only height control. ostensibly to upgrade the handling but really to cheapen manufacture. This car was coachbuilt by Mulliner-Park Ward, a bankrupt traditional coachbuilder which RR had recently taken over. The colour is not British Racing Green - that would be much darker and non-metallic. It clearly once had a vinyl covered roof, fashionable in the late sixties, and was probably a British delivery as it's RHD. A nice car, still cheap for what you get, and restoration is only now becoming viable as values slowly increase. Great channel too!
My dad bought this car 2 years ago and has fallen in love with it you get the coil overs thats the way to go. And my dad says if you get it it will spoil ever car you'll ever own. Its a hard car to beat! Buy it!!!
If you buy it you have the makings of a Pagani Zonda S chicago style. You will just have to find someone to weld you a Tipo Birdcage frame and your in!
That's an early coachbuilt and rare Rolls Royce Cornich Coupe. Starting to get valuable. Well worth a resto and it has pneumatic suspension like Citroens.
3:20 At that time, "TD" was for Estate Diesel. The "T" stands for a German word for Estate / Station wagon / 2-volume type of car. Diesel was for the Diesel Engines. Than, with the addition of Turbos, the added a big sticker stating "TURBODIESEL" on the right, much like "CDI" in the 2000s. E was for the Electronic injection of Petrol. So, there are some with TE, and other with only T.
I've got a bone to pick with you, good sir. I took your advice and used eManualOnline and boy was that a mistake. Let me explain because I'm sure you're going to want to hear this. I have a 2014 Ram 2500 4X4 w/6.7 Cummins. I ordered what was claimed to be the service and repair manual for this vehicle. Well, the first time they sent me a manual for a 2003 Cobra King dirt bike. So I contacted them to let them know there was an error. They responded with a link to DL another manual, but this time for "2009-2014 dodge ram" which is a bit strange because over that period of time there were drastic changes between the 1500s alone so it's odd that they'd be all included in one manual. Anyways, I start looking through this "manual" and it's literally over 17,000 pages of random information on various models throughout that year range and lacks huge swaths of information, like nothing on any of the suspension or front axle which is what I need it for. It really looked more like someone photocopied a Chiltons manual and complied it into a huge pdf. No table of contents, or any organization. Just random pages of information and nothing complete for any year or model. So I again reach out to customer service and in the period of 18 hours they send me the same pdf just renamed six different times. I continue to explain that this doesn't cover my truck and they tell me that this is all they have... and no mention of refunding my money. So I tell them specifically that I'd like a refund since they obviously do not have what they sold me. They then tell me that "we have another manual, which is software driven. That manual definitely includes your model. I can set that up for you if you wish." Clearly this is a bait-and-switch. I don't want anything but what was advertised, which is a pdf service and repair manual for a 2014 Ram 2500 4X4. Now all of a sudden, after 18 hours of them sending me the wrong manual, six times over in hopes I'd eventually go away, they "definitely" have the manual. I just need to get their software and have one of their techs set it up? Yeah, no thanks. This has all the hallmarks of a scam. It's been awhile now since I've requested a full refund and they've not responded. I honestly can't believe you're recommending this to your subscribers. Damn, now I'm burned on $20 and I still need to get the specifics for pulling apart my front axle. Thanks Alex, I hope they pay well. 🤷♂️
I bought a 07 SL65 8 years ago and have loved it. Worth every cent. Not that many things have gone wrong and after it was Renntech'd it became a total monster. Has to have traction control on to even drive it. They are extremely comfortable also.
Old rolls royces does have hydraulic suspension they have them combined with the brakes so if their suspension breaks or leaks then the brakes won't work beaucause they have the same fluid compartment
Cool channel, car is a classic. I just purchased a 2003 Audi RS6 and it's incredible. Twin-turbo V8. Similar hydraulic issues tho but the past owner installed coilovers. Merc is worth it IMO
Umm it was suicide officer, he had a high level of drugs in his system. Yeah, that’s right. No I don’t know how that balcony door glass got broken or the railing got bent officer lol.
Hope you bought him. Even if you would find out later that a rebuild is not doable , the parts you have are sold for much more than you spend on the car. Just bought a 2009 C216 CL65 AMG and fixing all the small issues made by Mercedes Benz dealership maintenance. Missing clips, here and there, door entry chrome liner with AMG logo bend and cheap glued and so on. Car is in pristine condition, underfloor like new. Changed the throttle body gasket to a 80mm which is now not limiting the intake. Changed pressure lines in the drive dynamic seats due to leakage. The hose is cheap, but a lot of work. Love to do things like this and in this case you don't get oily finger's. Have the ECU now reprogrammed, Speed limit OFF, AC of at WOT, preset for Cat delete. The result was 692.3 HP and 930 NM at the engine , 613.7 WHP and 849 MN measured at the wheels. Love your channel, warm greetings from Dubai!
TD stands for "Touring Diesel", which are the wagons. It's common for people to assume it stands for "Turbo Diesel." That one's just a turbocharged 300D
@@classicrestouk My 1982 300D is a turbo diesel, where is the T? They left it off because it is a sedan not a wagon. Who corrects someone without looking it up lol
The Rolls is an early Corniche or Mulliner Park Ward fixed head coupe.Headrests on this year isn't usual.Citroen helped with the suspension, steering etc.
Even though I'm not much of a Merc guy, I couldn't stop looking when I first saw one of these in Abuja, Nigeria.....It looks like nothing else on the road. 20 years in, this thing will be a rare collector.
That was a mulliner roller. They do aftermarket stuff on rolls. Extra levels of luxury etc. not sure about the suspension though. I'd definitely buy that bad boy.
Hi, the hydraulic line going to the front sping housing supplies brake fluid from a height control valve which is monunted on the front sway bar, to a ram that will keep the car at a constant height. This system was fitted to Silver Shadows from the start of producting 1966 to 1968 but was deleted by 1969 because the front level system was not needed and also caused too many problems to their customers. The rear level system was not deleted and remained to the end of production of the Silver Shadow. It is not a hydrulic suspension system but a system that assist to keep the car level at a constant height, loaded or unloaded. Also that 2 door Shadow is rare and worth a lot more than a Four door Shadow. Cheers from Michael, Sydney Australia.
I saw someone comment about getting an S65, and I agree. It has the same wonderful engine, and can just as easily be swapped to a custom coil over setup.
I didn’t realize they were that rare. We had one at my work a long time ago, I loved that car. It was white on black. Funny about the skunky smell, I noticed that
Lol I loved that the blk Tesla pirate dude is at the end!!! We live in a killer era!! Take away the RU-vid culture these 2awesome , passionate car guys would have never crossed paths !!! Love it !!
I had a 1976 Merc 300D that had hydraulic electric Windows that were slow inverted gauntlets. I converted it cosmetically to a period correct Polizei vagen, it was awesome!
honeslty the v12 is a dream but I would stay away as repairing the roof is not gonna be easy, the car probably was sitting for some time and if those cars are not being moved lots of things do go wrong
It is Cirtoen hydraulic, vegetable oil suspension system. The Austin Mini had hydraulic suspension too. Rolls Royce used it for a while because it works. Things have moved on since then and I am retired now so not in touch with the latest technology. With the diesel Mercedes, that thing could go on for a lot more if taken care of.
Thats crazy, this place is literally less than a mile or so away from my house. Ive picked parts from the junkyard down the road for my old 3000gt and honda civic. Its cool to have a channel i watch post content that i actually recognize from my everyday life.
I have a 2001 CL600 NA V12 with 56k when I bought it 4 years ago now 66k well maintained . It is a gem what you found. The sound of the V12 alone would be the decision to restore it.
My 80 300 turbo has 388 thousand miles after it rolled over many yrs ago! They are bulletproof! If we were friends and you needed to go to California ( I’m in The Southeast) ) I’d give you the keys and say REMEMBER TO PUT DIESEL IN IT! It wouldn’t let you down, but don’t think you’ll spin the tires unless your on asphalt with Clorox on it!
Yaseenshuja. The CL63 badge is Mercedes way of saying the car is a V8. The 65 badge identifies the car as a V12. It also identifies the cars as AMG builds as the factory cars are badged CL500 for V8's, and CL600 for V12's. This badging covers both the 215 and 216 models. The S class is the 220 model and subsequent 4 door models. The CLS models are built on E class platforms, not S class, so a CLS63 is a very different beast to a CL63, but both are V8's built by AMG.
Yaseenshuja; Sorry dude, just checked some AMG figures, and you are right, there were some V12's built in the early nineties, and badged as C63's. The production numbers are crazy low, like 23 or something, but they are still there. Maybe they rationalized the badging after this.
Andrew Longfield yeah there is VERY little data about the v12 6.3 cars. All I know is they were double digit production numbers and used a modified v12 that was originally the 5.8 v12
First car with Hydropneumatic suspension was Citroen traction avant in 1954, ant then DS in 1955 was a real hit with ton of automotive advancements like first mass produced car with disc brakes!
@@gregh7457 the way he said it about sitting in the cars and using his imagination sounded more like a pleasure trip to the jy not a business trip. Nontheless there is a story to be told.
I can relate to you junkyard story. I did the same thing at the Rambler marshaling yards in Kenosha. I was small enough that they thought it was "cute". Not AMC branded yet. A different world in the late 1950's.
The pattern of the damage looks like it could’ve been a pedestrian involved accident. All damage from front to back person clipped knee level deflects into windshield rolling over top sunroof, down the back impact would surely damage roof as well as break rear glass . It looks very possible from that aspect. Just saying 40k miles immaculate interior, yeah the pipes were straight out which to me makes it more viable . Just saying...
The roller had hydraulic suspension made under licence from Citroen . The colour possibly Brooklands green. Brooklands was the first banked circuit in the Uk.
I wouldn't buy it for more than half of what you can part it for, worst case scenario you part it and break even on time. There is easily 20k worth paint and body that car needs, if nothing else is broken...
Old upload I know but after years of wanting a CL65 I finally took the plunge in late 2012 and bought one as a second car ( just for special occasions really ! ) it was immaculate one owner from new in obsidian black with under 40k on the clock, it had pretty much every single option on it that was available at the time & I have to say me/we as a family loved it, never had a problem with it in our 3 years ownership just standard services and consumables, I would NOT buy this 65 though, reputation on these cars is not the greatest nor cheapest if they go wrong ! Great to see one again though !!
Ive owned a CLK for over 8 years, very strong reliable cars. A CL with miles as low as that would be a great project for such a rare and limited AMG example. Should be expensive to bring back but It'll be worth it.
The suspension system was originaly developed and used on its own models initially - and yes its hydraulic. If you go underneath you will see ball shaped oil pressure chambers - 4
Ah man, I love it when RU-vidrs collaborate, its great seeing so many of you guys all hanging out just having a blast! I am a new viewer, following the Samcracc side of this video haha, binge watching your stuff in 3...2....1....
I’ve rebuilt over 10 bmws over the past few years and have just started cracking into the Benz world. You can save a ton of money going the rubuilt route if you have the skills to do it, which it looks like you do. And in all honesty the CL cars have depreciated out so bad you could find a blown up one for next to nothing at a salvage yard and buy the whole roof cap. It’d be good for the channel and good to learn how to do all that if you don’t know body work already. My vote is do it! I know in my area the salvage title hit for value at resale is around 25-33% so keep that in mind. Some places it’s more some are less
An M275 straight piped is practically orgasmic. It's surprisingly quiet. Just a stock S600 I had with the rear part of the exhaust removed sounded like a Lamborghini. 😂
