Wintering BEES part 3 finds us SHOCKED to see what is inside these hives! Join us as West Sound Beekeepers Association dives into the final hives for winter prep #fullframeapiary
I think I know what he might have been trying with the stagger-frame hive. There is a theory that the break between boxes inhibits the bees and they don't like to cross it until a wax bridge is formed. Not sure I buy into that totally. In any case, the stagger eliminates the break. The obvious problem with the stagger-frame is it makes working the hive very difficult. First time I have seen that done. Another keeper (Vino Farm) is using combo frames that extend through a full deep and medium. Interesting, but again, It makes the frames incompatible. Still, interesting to watch how that develops.
That's the first thing I thought of as well. It would have been interesting to see the after winter result, but sadly we won't get to see that now that the hive is reconfigured to 'normal.'
