This year my wife and I decided that to go ahead and purchase a sawmill! And with some help from my father-in-law we bought and assembled it here just a few weeks ago. Today I'm cutting some elm, our largest log so far, so I wanted to take a few minutes and show you some of the features to explain why we decided to go with this mill. Thus far we have been impressed by the engineering that went into this design and how user friendly it is. Even though this is our first mill, we haven't been overwhelmed by it's complexity. The manuals are well written and we've already made some pretty neat cuts. With any luck, it will serve us for many years to come!

I also have this sawmill , you can see it in my channel also , but it’s such a useful piece of equipment when you build a lot of things

I believe you should be able to lower your back stops to its lowest setting when you’re cutting your lumber so that you don’t have to keep adjusting.

I tried that on an earlier log, but the further away my cut was from the clamps, the rougher the finished cut came out. Not a bad idea on wider, heavier logs, but it will definitely affect the cut quality on smaller stuff. Needing to move them for every cut is a bit much though. 🙂

Great video. Have you ever used a green line laser module as an alignment tool ?

Hello great video! Do you need to have the trailer perfectly level on the legs before cutting or does it just need to be off the wheels. Thanks

Great question! Getting the trailer off the wheels and getting it level are both important. It can be tedious to do if you drive up to every log you mill, but it is needed. If you have too large of a slant to the side, you risk the log rolling off. If you slant too far forward or backward, the saw head, which rides along the sides of the trailer, will roll toward the lower side if you aren't always holding onto it. If you are purely cutting slabs and doing so without flipping the log at all, you could probably get away with being a little less precise, but, especially if you are flipping the log several times for cuts, you're going to want it to be level to get straight, consistent lumber. Thanks for checking out the channel!

I'm trying to DIY copycat 1 of these sawmills. Do you think you can give me the measurement for the main vertical tube that the head goes up And down on just the silver tube itself. Thanks

So, how much saw dust got into the open garage there? 😂 Thanks for the vid, nice to see this in action.

haha! It wasn't too bad. I park the mill in there anyway, so it's easy to clean it out when some does get in there. I actually like using it on pavement when I can so the sawdust can be gathered as mulch. With any luck, I'll be releasing another video on this mill here in a few days!

@@HonestHomesteading Glad to hear it wasn’t too bad! Overall, would you say this is a worthwhile investment?

Hard to say if having a mill in general is a good investment. It will certainly depend on how much I actually find time to make things with it. So time will tell! Was this specific mill a good investment? Absolutely. I've only had it put together and running a few months, but I can tell it was designed very well and that it will last me a long time.

Funny, I was just thinking the same thing! Or the wife coming put and saying. "You are making a big mess! Can't you take your toys somewhere else???" LOL. Ordering this same model this week. I am going to fabricate my own ramps and a electric wench to roll the logs up onto the deck.

Did you really cut that to 8x8? I was under the impression you can not cut a 8x8 with this mill. Not enough clearance over the blade
