Yes, "Yankee" is a loanword used in japanese for street punks and members of motorcycle gangs, etc. Anko's name is literally the word for "Red bean paste", a common filling for japanese sweets like manju. I am unfortunately not sure if this is a refernce to something in ninja lore, because Naruto also has a character named Anko, but this would explain why she primarily uses Kunai as weapons. This is rather hard to research nowadays because searching for "anko ninja" or similar just gets you flooded with results related to naruto these days. Another option would be Anko Itosu and Anko Asato, two karate masters from the 1800s with the same given name which are spelled with different characters and I don't think they were keen of using weapons. The weird thing though is that except the character for "tiger" in her family (which she obviously shares with her sister) she has no animal reference in her first name. Also, the teacher is apparently named Ukai, which is the word for cormorant fishing where people use living birds to fish by tying their throats with strings (so they can't swallow the fish). The teacher has the character for cormorant in her name. This is different from the spelling used by the coaches in Haikyuu which means "crow beak".

There are certain anime characters who seem to actually know they are in an anime, Koshi seems to be one of them. It just isn't even close to the genre of anime she thought she would be in.

I'm interested in the details we keep getting about Koshi. We're told she's a "delinquent" as if that label tells us a lot about her, but it doesn't. Koshi wants to make a good impression, she doesn't date because she has romantic ideas from shoujo manga, she hasn't really shown any mean-spirited behavior, she says good night to her stuffed animals etc. The show is hilarious but I'm getting a strong feeling of "young person is trying to figure out who they are, and external forces keep shoving their way into the process". There's some interesting stuff happening among the layers

Is everything Koshi's dream? After all, it's all about her fears of getting her private thoughts exposed, much like the common dream of being naked in public. No one but her seem to take notice of the crazy stuff.
