What I want to know is what we’re they telling the Passengers who had access to the Retreat????? Do you know? My gut tells me either the rule did not apply to them OR upon checking into their staterooms they found complimentary tumblers on the sideboard with a letter on ship letterhead explaining they need to take the tumblers with them to the retreat.

We were on Oasis, and they had to drain the pool. Do people realize what a large undertaking it is? I’m sorry, but, this issue is not “the huge elephant in the room”. For me, it’s just another rule, that I would follow. I’m happy to drink sitting in the lounge chair.

Here in Europe, it's unheard of to be able to drink whilst in a pool. This is forbidden in any pool I have ever seen. The safety director on the ship is probably European. I think it is quite an American phenomenon to want to drink in a swimming pool.

I think it's a good rule. Cruise ship pools are not large and usually people soup, often folks in various stages of sobriety. The cumulative effect of people spilling drinks, or even part of them into the pool could be quite an issue for the cruise line to deal with. Totally understand this ruling. Sorry guys,😁

I used to work at a pool, and we never allowed people to eat or drink anything in or around the pool... This was because people would be careless and let their trash and cups float away, and then the lifeguards would have to fish trash out of the pool with a net. Once you work at a pool you'll see things in a different light...

You must not frequent many land-based pools, water parks, or resorts, etc., because if you did you would know that most, (Las Vegas excluded), prohibit both eating and drinking while in the water. This rule should not cause surprise or alarm. You should be a little more realistic with your expectations.

😂😂😂 The problems, you had is what brings me back to celebrity past 9 years. Vacation= no social media - full disconnect, casino closing early= more $$ to take home. Food is definitely the BEST even in comparison to New York , Chicago, Cali fine dining. Definitely caters to upscale vacation NOT a party ship 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

I don't drink in the pool anyway. It wouldn't have really occurred to me to want to drink in the pool, unless there's a swim-up bar maybe. I don't think we can drink in the pool in my local county club pool either...

I would have literally not thought anything of it. I would have taken my drink out of the pool, finished it and gone back in. It would not even have occurred to me that anyone would have a problem with this rule. One of the pools at caesars palace is I think 50% beer. The water is a little tan. That I noticed and thought was hilarious but also a little gross. Didn't make me want to get out... having a no drinks in the pool rule would have made the water look clean.

We’ve been on 13 cruises this year (12 different ships across 5 different cruiselines)… this is the first time we’ve ever encountered it this year. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I think we get out plenty 😉

The segment of the population that's so entitled as to require a beverage while in the swimming pool is the same segment of the population that's using their cell phone while sitting on the toilet. Just remember that before you waste too much energy trying to get them to understand that rules exist for a reason.

I think this is a none issue and an attempt to get more views by putting the words "HUGE " in capitals I have noticed this in recent trends in youtube videos . just looking at things now for other clips I see "HATE" and "JOKE?" any one that is wanting to do research will see that and say omg what is wrong with the ship I better watch - its a MINOR problem that effects you only for the most part :)

Click bait. Others are "Game changer," "HONEST review," "Brutal review," " My huge issue with the ship is they deleted popular areas from the Solstice class. Drinks in pools and internet service is something that is particular to this cruise and not a ship issue or ongoing issue necessarily. These guys are travel agents and maybe aren't "elegance" cruisers. I like the Cunard, HAL and older Celebrity style. Celebrity is morphing to something of a pretend premium class line where they used to really sweat the details about a lot of extra touches and presentation of food and even how liquor bottles are placed artistically on bar shelves. The Edge class is just new. But they have weaknesses that TAs that present them don't acknowledge usually.

Has it not occurred to you that this very well could be a fleet-wide policy across the Celebrity brand, but that on your other five sailings the crew chose to either turn a blind eye, or simply not enforce the rule altogether? Instead of complaining, you could have realized that you've been quite fortunate to have been allowed to drink in the pool on the other ships, and be satisfied. The Apex is the newest ship, and has a lot of senior staff and managers onboard right now. The crew is likely under a lot of pressure to follow the rules. This is a really petty, immature complaint, and makes your channel lose a lot of credibility.

Thanks for the feedback. So you are aware, this was a complaint by many on the ship the entire cruise. This wasn’t a young vs. old as most people complaining were much older than us and higher-up in status on Celebrity. We value everyone’s opinion and respect that you differ from those on the cruise with us. As paying passengers, people should voice concerns as that is sought by the cruiselines for better experience. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts, even if they differ. 😉

When I was on NCL Sky and they don’t let you have drink in the pool. I liked it because then people have to get out to drink. I like this rule. 👍🏻 👏

We always bring a tumbler with us on any vacation, drinking in the pool is not something I would do, what if you had an accident & your drink ended up in the pool? Day ruined for guests who enjoy the pool but don’t drink there! Good rule in my opinion!!

I have been on numerous cruises and never once have I seen a ban on drinks in the pool. They have plastic cups for a reason. And for the nurse comment below, your prejudice against drinking in general taints your comment.

We typically bring our Yeti glasses everywhere we travel - so this should not be an issue for us but I have never seen that before. Does make sense if people are spilling all over, with limes floating around :-)

I totally agree with the cruise line and adults should have to use an adult plastic sippy cup...1st no one wants broken glass in the pool... And 2nd no one wants alcohol or pina Colada in the pool water either..Some things are just common sense And maybe people should stop complaining and start appreciating the fact That they even get an opportunity to cruise after all this pandemic pandemonium... Don't worry be happy!!!😁 My 16yr old said...repeat after me "I'm Just Happy 😊 To Be Here !!!

Firstly guys.. I can't believe that this was the biggest issue you could find! It sounds a bit childish to me that you don't see that this is a safety issue primarily. You just stated that the pool on a Apex is the biggest pool on a cruise ship. Maybe the purpose of the pool is to actually swim? Many cruise ship pools are nothing more than glorified bath tubs. Why would you want to consume drink when you are actually swimming?

I always bring a glass with a covered top and part of that is safety and that it keep someone from sliding something into your drink. When I was strongly recommending that people bring this kind of a cup on a boat it was in the mid-1980s before they were so easy to find. Everyone was very glad to have that kind of a cup because they weren't spilling their drinks the way they were before that was required. Isn't it wonderful to have this kind of first world problem!

Drinks in the pool are not allowed on many cruise lines including Costa and MSC. This is a health and safety measure.

Simple it’s the largest pool on a ship you spill your drink in the pool you have to Drain the pool that’s lots of water and the pool is shut down for the time to do it.

I have been on 8 Celebrity cruises, including Edge, and I agree that I do not remember anyone being told they could not have a drink while sitting on the side of the pool, while soaking your feet etc. Having a GLASS bottle or glass is normally never allowed on any cruise line (20+ cruises here) but you confirmed plastic. I personally agree that drinks should not be in the pool due to spillage etc. Who wants to swim in strawberry daiquiri or pina colada water? The internet on every Celebrity cruise has been FANTASTIC - way above and beyond that of other lines. That had to have been a one-off occurrence. We are on Reflection over Thanksgiving and then have Solstice booked for Alaska next June! Great review and agree with design, dining and entertainment on Edge Class.

@@treffsimpson8819 I have only been on the Edge but the Apex is exactly the same except for crew. Edge class ships are very impressive and Celebrity is our favorite cruise line. We did a Sky Suite and the extra service of Luminae, the Retreat Lounge and sun deck are a big plus. Edge was our favorite cruise out of 20+

There are certain places where drinks just aren't allowed. Drinking water on the NYC Subway, even on a hot 100 degree day, can land you a $25 fine if you do it in front of a police officer who's a stickler for the law. Keep your drinks out of the pool or chose a different cruise line.

I can’t imagine having a balcony in my room. I was recently on the Carnival Mardi Gras and the people in the next cabin smoked a lot everyday on the balcony. Would not want smoke flowing into my room because it was bad enough trying to enjoy my balcony.

Our last cruise was in January 2020 on the Edge and our next is a 12 day B2B on the Apex in January 2022. Learned a long time ago that we don't make the rules, we just play the game. So if it is absolutely imperative that you drink while in the pool or hot tub you bring a tumbler with a lid from home. This certainly would not be a deal breaker for me and if you were not aware of the rule, spending 20 bucks for a tumbler in the gift shop is no big deal compared to the thousands that you have spent on your vacation. The Craft Social Bar looks great and I know that is where I will be utilizing the premium drink package.

Thanks for commenting Gregg! We agree this in no way is a deal breaker, we just paid quite a bit to be on the ship and didn’t want to have to pay more for the cruise once onboard. That being said, we will be bringing our tumblers on new ships from now on!

I think the rule is just fine. It's just a rule on one ship, and sometimes you need to simply respect the rules... I'm a seasoned cruiser, with over 70 cruises across many cruise lines, and the enforcement across the fleet of policies and procedures has varied by ship for as long as I've been cruising. As you mentioned, this is because each ship operates with its own team of department heads and officers in charge of the ship. Each ship is a mini city and operates as such. Corporate policies are often provided as the baseline, and each ship is given the freedom to tailor them to the needs of that ship/cruise. This might mean that some ships operate with stricter, or more lenient policies, depending on the needs of the ship, passengers, or crew. The same goes for how restaurants operate, how many serves are assigned to a specific lounge, what the bar and casino hours are, what actives get approved for the daily program, etc. The individual ship gets a lot more liberty/option from corporate than one may think. This issue of pool drinks probably won't be specific to the Apex for long, as the safety officer involved will likely transfer ships for their next contract. Not a really big deal in my opinion, just part of what you'll experience if you chose to to be a cruiser.

We should probably just always carry tumblers when going on new cruse ships to save us from surprise!

So from prior experiences, they clean it after hours as there is plenty of chemicals that will clean it as is. We’ve only been kicked out when a kid poops in the pool and didn’t have a swim diaper on 😅

yea cant drink in the pool when you can sit on the side - A HUGE issue - maybe if you wanted to get in the pool and someone spilled there milkshake into the pool and everyone had to get out for the hour or so they had to clean it then that would be HUGE - sounds a bit of a cry baby problem :)

We were on your cruise . We agree with almost everything you said but you fail to convey the ambiance of the ship which makes it so special. Its openess, its ariness, its spaciousnes and most of all the beauty. On the pool deck, no railings, 12-14 foot glass panels. The elevators, huge that the whole frame lights us to let you know its coming, The double height buffet that makes it a please to be sitting in. The beautiful tasteful modern contemporary decor and design of literally everyhting on the ship. Here's a good one for you. I noticed that the grill in the buffet had Octopus. I requested they grill me up some since I am a bit of an afcinado. The chef said no its only for display. Display only??? So that night I was in Cyprus, and talked to the Maitre D Oscar, and told him about this and another problem, the soup was lukewarm twice and he said he would take care of both. He said, just come in here at 6:15 pm tomorrow and I will take care of you. Well we did. The soup was piping hot as it should be. Kudos to you Oscar BUT the Octopus was absolutely amazing! They did it up as an appetizer and an entree. First it was marinated perfectly second the appetizer, Scarpacho or something like that, was served Gourmet style, sliced paper thin and arranged in circular layers around an artistic middle. Now for the best. The Octopus entree was not chunks as usual. It was sliced longitudiinally and charcoal grilled, or something the equivalent of and again artistically presented. The best ive ever had. Bless you Oscar and there was a lot of it! This is not a normal item on the menu in the regular restaurants but it was available at Blu and I suspect if you check the menus of the specialty restaurants and find something out of the ordinary you can request it. Love that ship so much we are going back in January and we have never done this before. At that the new Beyond seems even better. Thank you

Hopefully you are aware that cruise lines are only getting better and better with the help of Starlink and innovation to bring strong quality Wi-Fi to sea. This is because we live in a world where staying connected to people back home (whether for a business owner overseeing operations while away or something different like checking in on loved ones who may be ill) is important to many. We, of course, know some people have the luxury of being able to fully disconnect while at sea. We even used to be those people. That said, now we understand the importance of quality Wi-Fi from so many cruisers who’ve told us their stories as well as our own stories of being able to connect with family when a loved-one passed away unexpectedly. We completely understand not everyone cares about Wi-Fi but please know that Wi-Fi in the middle of the Ocean is not only possible, it’s available and strong on many cruise ships. ☺️

The Eden was Awesome. The show The Caravan was Great! The FOOD in the Buffet was SPECTACULAR! Better than Carnival, Royal, NCL, and Princess !Tuscan was delicious 😋

I've been on 12 cruises in my lifetime. One was on Carnival. Speaking just for me, everything is better than Carnival. But it is the least expensive, so with cruising, I've found you do get what you pay for.

Great review and very helpful as I am about to book the Apex for Feb. 2023. None of your negatives bother me except the wifi and hopefully, that has been corrected. Since I don't go in the pool the drink issue is not an issue for me. Keep up the great work. I love your videos!

@@rethinkcps2116 We decided not to go on the Apex. I booked a Sky Suite on Celebrity Refection for Feb. 5th. This will be only my 2nd suite ever and I did it mostly for the private dining and other amenities. Normally, I book a balcony but oceanfront will be fine for you as well.

Great review! As you know, one of my biggest pet peeves is inconsistency in rule following! The drink service in the pool on the Edge was amazing! They even came around with small (plastic) glasses with complimentary drinks to try! As a non-alcoholic-drinker I would be very annoyed at having to buy a tumbler for my club soda with lime! Let me be clear, I am a rule follower, but I think it is important that the rules be clear and fair. This seems like it came out of nowhere! For some pool enthusiasts, this could be a real deal breaker.

We completely agree that consistency in rules is key. 👏🏽 We would have definitely brought a tumbler if we knew from our other Celebrity cruises but tumblers take a lot of space in carry-ons so we don’t usually bring it unless we know we need it. No Drinks (or eating) in the Pool is the standard. I suspect you have been lucky in the past that no one has wanted to "confront" you on this item. Addressing this "issue" is often uncomfortable and or embarrassing for both the passenger and the crew, particularly when there may be other passengers around. But now you know.

My opinion is different than yours about the Craft Social bar. We loved it and thought it was a big improvement over the Edge's casino bar. BUT, we don't gamble, so I can understand you not liking it. We were on the cruise right after yours and had zero problems with the internet. They must have fixed it!

If that's the rule, it should be posted. I'd rather not swim in the wake of someone's mixed drink. Plastic cups with a lid should do it. Maybe because it's a new ship, no blurred lines. The rest of the ship should great. Was this cruise more expensive than a comp royal cruise.

Some of our cruises are casino comps and some aren’t this includes all lines including Royal, Celebrity, Carnival, NCL, etc. That said, we always price out what it would be if we paid full price for all sailings and Celebrity is almost always more expensive than Royal. Now for Casino Comps between Celebrity and Royal, Royal it is just taxes and port fees for a comped cruise and same for Celebrity, but what Celebrity also has as an option is a price that includes Drinks, Gratuities and WiFi which we typically do since we have to have the WiFi and gratuities anyways. Now NCL is a completely different story for additional fees on comped cruises… 😅

Celebrity is considered a premium line as opposed to Royal Caribbean, Carnival and Disney. It’s also quite a bit more expensive. There’s no wild things, not even a water slide on board. It’s about relaxation. I bet by now there’s signage, drinking in a plastic cup seems like a no- brained, why they serve glass in the pool deck is stupid anyway with how many drunk people walking around with out shoe there are.

We did Apex in September in Greece and loved the four main restaurants and we also ate at Blu and Fine Cut and our favorite was also Tuscan. Wonderful service and great food. We also thought the buffet was fantastic and we usually had breakfast and lunch there. My favorite spot on the ship was my 6 am visit to Cafe Al Baccio for my morning caramel macchiato. The entertainment was great, we did all the venues and enjoyed every one of them.

Celebrity internet sucks in general. The streaming wifi (premium upgrade) is decent though. No drinks in the pool??! WHAT?!!!!!!??? No no no. Bad bad bad policy. Ridiculous. It's plastic. I've never seen one drink spilled on any Celebrity shiip in/by the pool. I've been on 16 Celebrity cruises but never on the E class ships. I need to finally try one! I could care less about the casino or casino bar, so meh.

We are never allowed to have a drink in pool in Japan. This is absolutely forbidden in all pool for health and safety reasons. You should not be drinking in pool.

Lots of cruises that I have been on have the no drinks in the pool. I think it maybe a rule from the big folks that govern the cruise ships. I saw it on the Norwegian, Celebrity and Carnival. Norwegian Escape will jump on you if you take a drink in the hot tub. No drinks.

I agree...why do you need to be drinking in the pool. Go to those sleezy all inclusive places where people stay in the pool all day. Get out if you want to drink. JMO. Been on 10 Celebrity cruises...no need to drink in the pool.

Don't think drinks should be in pool !! Fir hygiene reasons. In Europe noone drinks I any pool or hot tub 🤔. Think that should stay that way. Sorry guys love your video.

I have never seen people drinking in the pool and I have been on 30 plus cruises. It is a health/safety issue. Here on land in my state of Florida it is prohibited by law to drink or eat in public and condo pools. It makes perfect sense.

Well I will say is a good thing coming to safety drinking at the pool the person can get a bit high they could get drunk and you know why said very good things not to drink in the pool I need a drink sit outside the pool and drink I don’t see a problem with that drinking at the pool it is a problem for me I am a crewmember from a different company I would not say which company but I work at a different company

I don't allow drinking in my pool unless it's solo cups. All glass or metal containers need to stay clear.

I am not even slightly bothered by not being allowed to drink in the pool. I can find a lounge chair and sit a while, then get in (or back in) the pool. Honestly, I was expecting some HUGE problem that MUST BE FIXED NOW! and was rather bewildered when you revealed the big issue was no drinks in the pool.

Thanks for watching and commenting your thoughts! For us, we don’t sun bathe so we really enjoy being in the pool while outside. Getting in and out seems contradictory to a relaxing cruise for us so we value that while on vacation. That said, we completely understand it isn’t an issue for all and appreciate the diverse opinions 🤗

I appreciate the videos. Like the content. Why would you want an open container in the pool though? I would be fearful that some would splash into my drink. Gross. I do think it should be ok to have a drink in the hot tubs...but with a lid on as is the policy.

Drinking in the pool rule is not that big of a deal. That’s good I have been at pool parties and spilling stuff in the pool is a pain to have to clean and is gross to hang out in.

I have never taken a drink into a poor or hot-tub on cruise. I can’t recall ever even seeing someone with a drink in the pool but I would think I’d find it rude. I do not want to be swimming in your drink if you spill it.
