Personal preference for offbeat openings - the sort you'd only consider in blitz/bullet. Most of the top, top openings we see a lot during your videos anyway and you're great at reiterating what each colour is trying to do with each move. But to give an example of one that sort of fits into this category, I know that Jan is or was a fan of the Old Benoni in shorter time formats.
#suggestion I don't have a particular opening to suggest, but think it's a great idea if you could approach the opening from a "bigger picture" perspective. Many opening studies simply focus on details of all the many lines and theory moves/responses, rather than broad ideas like what each side is hoping to achieve. Starting with a more basic overview of what "defines" that opening and why someone would prefer it (tactical vs positional, how sharp, attacking vs defensive, long term ideas) will be more informative to a wider range of players, especially beginners. Then progress to specific lines and variations afterward to get more advanced. I've found that these sort of big picture ideas are often ignored and discussions dive right into the details and long theory lines, feels more like pure memorization than appreciating what makes a particular opening unique and how to approach the thought process.

I read it back in my chess club days. It truly is a masterful work. And the poem written to Morphy on the first page (".. the name rings like a bell in the Halls of Chess..") is beautiful.

thanks, you explain these games so beautifully. Let me ask a general question, relating to a position that came up in this game. We know that early in a game with a crowded board the knight is more valuable than the bishop, but in the end game the bishop is far more valuable than the knight. Isn't it better to trade knight for bishop early, giving up the early advantage for the sake of the end game? Theoretically, it sounds advisable. I personally do the opposite, because Stockfish is so devastating to me with its knights that my priority is to take them off the board by any means necessary. I do everything possible to force a trade of all knights in the opening moves, but if I can force Stockfish to do that I'm reluctantly willing to give up my bishop to get the off the board. But between two masterful humans, isn't it better to grab a bishop for a knight any chance you can?
Your questions show how just complex chess is. It really depends on the opening and the current position. In general grandmasters like the bishop pair because they are more mobile and covers more squares compared to the knight. Of course, bishops can not protect each other as the knights can. It really depends on how active that piece is and how much potential of activity that piece has later in the game. So your question- should you trade your knight for a bishop early. I use to think this way when I was first learning chess, but chess is more complex than that. If the position goes to the end game with few pieces than theoretically yes since most end games positions favor the bishops. However, it depends on the position of course- pawn structure, how active your pieces are and so on. For me I ask my self before I trade pieces - how active is my piece? Have I squeezed all of the value of this piece that I can or can I put it on a better square? Is this piece blocking any activity of my opponents pieces.

#Suggestion : Sicilian Dragon Variation, rather it can be nicely illustrated through game # 10 between Anand and Kasparov from PCA World Championship 1995 played in WTC NY. I am not sure if this has been covered earlier, however the Dragon is such a beastly variation, surely merits consideration and your insights would help in getting sense of this variation and make for a wonderful AV treat☺

re: the black/white side choosing, it sounds like what happens when team captains are selecting teammates on the court / playground / field / etc. Captain 1 gets first pick Captain 2 gets next two picks Captain 1 gets next two picks Captain 2 gets next pick Captain 1 gets next pick and so on... one pick each
That style alternating white black makes sense if you consider games as a pair of black and white, then a pair of black and white. The first pair you have the advantage because you have a chance to win, if you win, you can play as black for the draw. But then your opponent gets a chance to win, and if he wins he can play for the draw. So alternating pair with each getting a turn to have a slight advantage.
#openings I have two suggestions first whatever opening you are going to do for example if you are doing a Sicilian najdorf put a link of Gary Kasparov or mvl's game so that we can understand how to approach the middlegame and what kind of pawn structure we can expect in the end game or in the case of najdorf when a thematic exchange sacrifice works and when it backfires.second suggestion is how to punish your opponent if they are playing inaccurate moves this is where most of the players struggle.when I say punishing your opponent people go crazy when they see an inaccurate move by their opponent and they want to checkmate their oppenent immediately including myself so it backfires mostly.it would be helpfull if you cover these.

Play Magnus app have all sorts of opening tutorials, but I'm sure you can pull it off on what opening to play, what variations, traps, etc... I enjoy your videos so maybe can show what kind of openings that you love to use. And sadly even your Caro-Kann opening that led to your loss against Magnus.

I'm almost definitely certain that this is game 4 in their match. Why would Morphy have White two games in a row, given that he won the previous game? We already saw that the players keep their colours if the previous game was drawn, so this is almost certainly the 4th game. Plus, this is game 4 in the tournament book as well. I can provide a link to that if you want.
I would suggest the main common openings that's Ruy lopez, Queen's gambit declined, Najdorf Sicilian, The Italian game And the main Gambits especially our favorite "Evan's gambit"
Well in the position they agreed to a draw, why not taking the pawn ? You spoke a little about it but I am not sure if there is any means to push after ? About the beginning theories, I wouldn't mind having some deeper details about Evan's gambit. I remember in some occasions you spoke about it and about a few moves after it depending of if the pawn is accepted or not. but nothing too deep about it.
