We Have A Problem Here!! MS70?? I don’t think so! PCGS American Silver Eagle

In this video I show you a first strike PCGS 2021 type 2 American Silver Eagle MS70 coin. The problem is I don’t think it’s a MS70 coin. Not with the deep scratch it has over the O and Z of oz. It even has a hairline scratch off of that. Is it wise to buy from a online bullion dealer if you can’t see the actual coin you are buying? I think maybe not. I bought this coin from SD Bullion and it’s apparent that PCGS or SD Bullion noticed the scratch and if they did they still let it go out to the customer, me! This was a bulk submission coin that was overlooked in my opinion.
Thanks for watching! Special thanks to all of my subscribers! You mean the world to me! Much love and respect to each and every one of you!

You've created a new era of coin errors, which I'd thought of too. Coins that are improperly graded by reputable coin grading companies should be of significant value for the exact errors, mintage, and sheldon rating vs. .

I think the problem here is you have to pay extra for the error designation and this was a bulk submission. I might resend this one myself. Thanks for watching!

I was thinking that could be but like I said I’m no expert and in a learning process. So it is a 70? And if it’s an error shouldn’t it say that? That actually looks like a strike through when you looked with more magnification - it was struck with something in between the die and the planchet when struck. That would be considered and error, and you have to pay extra for them to put that on the slab - so that might be what is going on with that one - the graders saw it but couldn't attribute it becasue they weren't paid to do so. I'm no expert at all, but it might be something to look into - hope it's that and not a plain old scratch. I'd hold onto it either way :)

If it was me I would probably keep that, its looks like a error coin/slab type situation. I thought I read or saw a video somewhere where they talked about the grading process and how the coins are looked at by 2 different graders before a grade is given. That one definitely slip thru the cracks somehow. As far as SD Bullion goes dont get me started with them, dont buy from them anymore unless I have to. Coin grading is subjective and a MS70 isn't really perfect. The PCGS 70 does allow for minor defects, as long as those flaws are minor and don't effect the eye appeal of the coin. Seen coins in PCGS and NGC holders that had issues that weren't allowed on a particular grade they were given.

If it were mine, it'd be going back for either a replacement or a refund. This would seem to be more of an issue with PCGS than SD Bullion. I was looking at a Silver Eagle I bought from APMEX and I noticed that there is a scratch on the shield. I have no idea how I did not notice it when I got the coin but it does make me wonder how these big companies are guaranteed 70's on bulk submissions when individuals who only send in a few coins at a time get 69's or even 68's when they look better that the 70's people get from companies.

There is definitely some issues and craziness going on with the grading companies. They are ripping off regular people and grading coins for dealers better. Just my opinion ad things I’ve heard. Thanks for watching!

It looks like a tiny lamination error to me, its probably an issue with the die. A scratch will usually not look like that. Thanks for the advice about buying graded coins online. I avoid listings where sellers post graded coin pictures with a caveat '_the coin you receive is not the coin in the picture_' Ewwww.... 😂

Someone else said that too and was on my mind. Do you think they let it go so I would get it and send it back for a grade with error on the tag? Just trying to make sense of this. The other person said it’s a 7O with a mint error. I’m so confused now. 😂 thanks for stopping by and commenting
@send2georgie_S2G

@@CapitalCurrency I believe if PCGS recognized the lamination error on your coin, they would have added that to the label. In my opinion, the coin was graded 70 by mistake. I can’t see too well from the video. You might want to get a second opinion before you risk sending it in for regrading. But if it was me and I am living in the States, I would send it in. The MS70 grade is obviously incorrect and (knowing me…) I would have this nagging thought in my mind to do something about it!! That’s a lot of sleepless nights bro 😂😂 But again CC, that’s just me 🤫🤭 Cheers

I picked up some silver during the selloff last week, too. I started stacking last year after all the money-printing, but I'm still really new at to stacking physical bullion (I buy both silver and gold). What are the benefits to graded coins? Should someone like me who's stacking more for inflation-insurance than collecting consider graded over standard fare? Thanks for the excellent content - I love looking at coins even when they're not mine! 😉
@CapitalCurrency
@CapitalCurrency 2 года назад
In my opinion this is more on the collection side. I stack for both reasons but to me both are for the long haul. There is definitely things like this you can buy and flip later. I picked this one up to put in my collection so my kids will have a first year design MS70 coin that could be worth way more than what I paid for it now. But it’s all speculative. I hope that’s the case but you never know. If I hold on to it long enough though it will happen eventually. In my opinion if you are just stacking to protect your wealth bullion silver & gold is fine for that. I must say though it’s my opinion and I’m not a financial advisor. 😆 I’m one of those people that think variety is the spice of life. I like it all! Thank you for watching!

Unfortunately the big boys submit these by the thousands. While they do have a few graders supposedly reviewing each coin, I doubt they spend more than 10 seconds on each one. It is surprising that not one of them didn't catch that. Submit it for a regrade and see what it comes back as😂
@CapitalCurrency

I bought a 2016 w gold mercury dime online already graded by NGC as sp70 . I only bought it cause it was my first gold coin ever,I liked the looks and it was the year I retired from work. And after it was delivered the next day I was looking at it and noticed a small mark on the lower part of the neck just above the 2016 . I thought this should not be a 70 graded coin . But I’m not really familiar with graded coins ( never bought one) all I know is 70 is supposed to be a perfect coin. Now I’m disappointed and sorry I bought it . Won’t buy anything like that again unless I can hold it in my hand and look at it before I buy it.
@CapitalCurrency
@CapitalCurrency 7 месяцев назад
Sorry to hear you’ve felt disappointed. Make sure it’s the coin and not the case. Sometimes the case can be scratched and it looks like it’s on the coin. If it’s a proof though you will probably see two scratches because the mirror finish is reflecting the case scratch. Also after making that video I was told that sometimes there are bulk submissions where a company will send out many of the same coin for grading at one time. In my case there was a strike through, which is an error. The problem is with grading companies you have to pay extra for a error designation. Therefore the coin can be a perfect 70 but the scratch you see it actually a strike though. Which means when the coin was struck through something, like a piece of metal got in between the planchet and die before it was struck. Hope this helps a little.

LOL . I would return it. I'm new to coin grading and collecting. ....I have bought many NGC graded Proof 2023 Morgan and Peace dollars on Ebay and I have inspected them and noticed many defects. I returned a few but kept some of the defective PF70 with milk spots etc...... I would not knowingly submit defective coins to NGC for a PF70 but if they are being this relaxed and easy on the grading that's wrong. I submitted for the first time recently and I expect all PF70 for the proofs I sent. Can you still sell that at a premium as a graded MS70?
@CapitalCurrency
@CapitalCurrency 7 месяцев назад
So after post his video I’ve been told that because this was a bulk submission from SD Bullion that only the coin is graded and because they didn’t pay extra for the strike through error that is was simple graded as such. So this coin is actually a diamond in the rough or so they say. I can send it in a pay for the error designation to get it right. Something probably fell in between the planchet and the die when it was struck. When it comes to milk spotting that happens way later. A coin won’t milk spot right away. It usually takes a few months to turn up. I have a few graded and a few that had milk spotting months after I got them. When they came it they were fine. It’s due to the chemical they wash the planchet in before striking. It wasn’t washed off enough. Thanks for watching and commenting. 👊

Keep it or send it back? That's a tough decision. It could be an error. Could not be an error. It could be damaged or not damaged. I have always been under the impression that a MS70 is supposed to be flawless. I don't grade anything. I leave that up to the people that are in that profession and do it for a living. It all comes down to what you want to do with the coin. But, beware there are people out that claim they know what it is or what it is not. Maybe, do alot of research before you make a decision of what to do with the coin. Don't wanna see you get screwed over my friend.
