Hahaha. By sheer coincidence I have exactly the same van layout, including the chemical toilet, as you do, even very similar electronics...and it's also in a Transit van. Must be because we are both in Australia that we came to the same conclusions what with weather considerations, available electronics and the way we might use our vans is very different to the English or Americans. The only thing different I note is that I didn't put a shower deck at the back. Instead I have a swivel-out second kitchen and BBQ and I also have two pullout rear seats to enable two people to watch the view with a bevy.
@SALTYVANVENTURES
@SALTYVANVENTURES 2 года назад
Great minds think alike! I think in a future build i would scrap the deck and add either a pull out bbq or second freezer. We do use the deck but just not enough to warrant

Lovvvingggg your content. Your floor plan is super similar to our build so I’m finding your latest vids extra helpful!! One Q, what thickness ply are you using? I’m trying to avoid going too thick for that dreaded extra weight. Also, happy birthday week!
@SALTYVANVENTURES
@SALTYVANVENTURES 3 года назад
Thank you! 90% of the ply has been 12mm. I used 15mm for the sub floor and 5mm and 7mm for drawer bases and on the sides of the bed to save on space.

Hi Marcel, love your work. I am borrowing alot of your ideas and especially your buy list (I'm also Northern Beaches and doing up a Sprinter - Western Red Cedar was a real gem!). Two questions - did you use a regular light switch (you have vertical switches) or a specific 12V one (if so, where did you buy?), also, for the oven fan, you mentioned connecting it to the oven - can you explain how you connected it and to what exactly. THanks - you've made my build so much easier!
@SALTYVANVENTURES
@SALTYVANVENTURES 2 года назад
Awesome! glad you have been getting some use out of the local info! Yep just used a regular 240v switch for the 12v lights as it looks more homely. Essentially a switch is a switch, regardless of the voltage is still does the same fundamental thing of opening and closing a circuit. The fan is actually for the fridge as a means of cooling the compressor. I wired it up to the cooler fan already installed in the fridge so they both turn on at the same time now.

It's looking great. Just wondering if there's enough space at the front of the toilet cabinet to put your hand in to open and close the bowl seal?

I don't know if you've done this yet but could you do an idiots guide to all the power installations. I can handle most of the carpentry stuff but me and electricity are not bedmates. If you decide this is worth doing, please make it a real idiot guide. What things do, how you choose them, how they all work together, the wiring, fusing, everything, pleaseeeeeeeee. Great work too. I'm about to buy a van for this so my request is a priority for order of works. Thanks, mate.

Another great video - thanks, Marcel. I've taken some ideas from your electrical set-up to use in my own van. Interested to know the diameter, length and material of the bolts you used as DIY busbars, as well as how you decided they'd do the job. Any advice? Thanks in advance. P.S. You've said that you're not planning an detailed electrical video but, if you changed your mind, I'd love to see an Australian example. Cheers.

Did you consider positioning the main isolator switch ( eg: 90 degrees, through the panel) so you can access it in an emergency? rather than the switch mechanism being inside the cupboard?
@SALTYVANVENTURES
@SALTYVANVENTURES 3 года назад
Not really. I can access the isolator very quickly if needed. The isolator isn't really for emergencies anyway, that is what fuses are for to protect everything in the even of a short. The isolators are for cutting all the power for storage or disconnecting things.

Great build. What is the bit you are using on the router?
@SALTYVANVENTURES

It’s a round over bit. I think 1/4 inch size. Essentially makes all the edges uniformly round and smooth

Hey mate at the time of your build, were you familiar with falcata lightweight plywood sheet? Comes in 10, 12 and 15mm and im considering using for my entire cabinetry. It's at least 30% lighter and feels very strong without being structural.

As far as I know there are two batteries under the driver seat. Starter and accessories. Did you consider to replace an accessory one with lifepo as well?
@SALTYVANVENTURES
@SALTYVANVENTURES 3 года назад
I believe the two batteries under the seat are actually connected in parallel. So they are producing 12v but at might higher amps and they are not isolated from each other hence one is not for accessories. So replacing one of these wouldn't make much sense.
@alexromanov9437
@alexromanov9437 3 года назад
@@SALTYVANVENTURES I have a 350L 2016. The batteries are not hard-connected to each other. There is a some sort of battery protect system that disconnects the batteries from each other if the accessory one voltage goes beyond some point. And connects back when you turn the ignition on. My accessories is dead and I can’t replace it due to no stock of the EFB batteries in Sydney. I was going to install just any battery that fits the size, but was told that a regular lead-acid installed in a car that has start-stop system looses warranty right away. So I either have to wait for the EFB restock, or look into a LiFePo4 I’m a starter battery size-factor that can be charged from a regular alternator. Don’t have time tho do dig into this.

Great build, I’ve gained heaps out of your videos!! Could you please tell me the dimensions of the seats (depth and height) and the angles to make them ergonomic? I’ve been searching but haven’t found the info I’m after. Cheers
@SALTYVANVENTURES
@SALTYVANVENTURES 3 года назад
The seats are 450mm high and 430mm deep. The angle of the backing is 98 degrees so is 8 degrees off vertical. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I had been trying to work out the correct slope for the chair back. How many surfboards do you have? all of your floor level storage seems to be customised for yet another board. I have seen them suspend from the ceiling in smaller vans.
