Great to hear your family is moving close to home. It's difficult/ border impossible for young people buying something and get started without some help nowadays. Remember back when my wife and I bought our first home, a year salary was the price of the house. Now it's like almost 10 years of salary, and it's hard and stressful for young people taking on massive amounts of debts, while raising children. So it's a blessing having the old folks helping out if they live close by.

Mike, love what you are doing with your property. Years ago my father told me the best drag for leveling and seeding was a length of chain length fence. So I got a piece of heavy-duty chain-length fence left over from a construction job. It was 8 ft tall and about 10 or 11 feet long. I just hook a chain at one end in two spots, drape it over my trailer hitch ball on my side by side, and pull it around. Man does it work! It will level the ground and cover the seeding enough to get a nice seed bed for the seeds. I have used the same piece of chain-link for years and it still works like the day I first used it. I also drag my pastures to spread the horse manure that the horses have deposited around the pastures. It also works great on my gravel driveways. Just thought I would mention another idea. J.R.

It's difficult when everyone is spread-out across the nation. I have a son in Anchorage, north of Dallas and in northern NC. Don't get to see them and the grandchildren very often. 😐
@@larrycutting4514 long distance certainly makes it difficult I have 3 daughters in each of the following states, Kansas, Iowa & New York and a son in Arizona and between all of them I have 16 grandkids and 4 great grands that I never get to see as often as I should.
Knowing the general area of the Pittsburgh metro in which you live, the development all around you is phenomenal. If and when you and your family decide to part with your property, you'll see a windfall. That being said, I'm happy that there are some folks who actually want to preserve some rural green space. Great news having your family all close. My last gig with Southwest Airlines was in Indianapolis. Was there for 13 years. When they said my next gig would have been Miami or El Salvador, luckily my wife and I after 14 houses in our adult life, we decided, No, we are not moving again. We are taking the early out and will decide where we want to live. Luckily we were able to buy land and build our last home, number 15, in our hometown of Newport, PA. So glad we made this choice. We are around most of our family too and it’s been a blessing. So the nexts time you hear the SWA commercial that says, “Ding, you are now free to move about the country”. They literally mean it with some of their employees.
I like that you get the job done no matter what.... as far as mowing with the Vermeer.... it did a fantastic job... so remember....."the equipment you got is the equipment you use"..... or "you gotta dance with the one that brought ya", or "run what you brung". Keep on keepin' on Morgans.
That's great news! My 4 sons, their wives, and 9 grandkids all live within 15 minutes of us (a couple in walking distance). There's nothing better than having Family close! That's awesome! 😀
Mike, it's very nice that your family will all be close soon. As I age, I pine for my family more and more. One daughter is living over seas with her family, my son is hours away, so I only see a daughter and her family regularly.
As a parent and grandparent, I know how precious it is to have one's chicks close to home. I have one in California, one in Chicago, one up Maine way, and another in the Phillipines. They all moved for jobs. But one stayed close for years. We became roomies when we were both widowed and have been enjoying the companionship.
Congratulations on your clan coming back together. When I retired, we moved to NCNC to be close to older son and grandkids. Younger son was in N Va then and now in Hershey PA. So we can see youth sports almost any day and get with the PA crowd 3-4x/yr. It’s nice to be able to see the guys, help with kid logistics, help with house projects, hang out on game days, find a burger somewhere etc. Enjoy!

It's one thing to watch a sales video, but seeing someone actually use equipment, is another. I recently had twelve 100 ft. Trees removed from around our home, after two trees fell and damaged our house. They used a mini skid like yours and I was amazed by it's capabilities. Your videos pushed me over the edge. From personal experience, enjoy the grand babies while you can. As they grow older and their horizons expand, time with y’all will start to lessen. But, having them close is always a blessing.❤
We are blessed 4 of our 5 kids are within 30 miles and they do alot togather also 10 of 13 grandchildren. Oldest daughter is 130 miles away so not to far. We have 60 acres putting up modular home. Have a great day!
This is Lee from on the ridge. We use a 5’ by 5’ piece of chain link fence as a drag. For when we have been seeding our plots that are close in size to the one you have. Hope this helps. Enjoy watch you and your family. God Bless.

I’m in SW Beaver county n my Second Daughter has an Autistic son(15) now n he’s been my Big helper on my small farm, He can’t read much but he has an Ford 8N that’s I bought n fixed up for him n he can do everything with it, he loves my NH Boomer cause he can feed round bale’s to my cows n use it to pound fence posts n run the backhoe pretty good, im a Blessed grandfather For real !! The tree tops is a good idea for quick work or small plot, but they don't do a good uniform coverage. The best coverer device I've seen is an old set of bed springs, also good for sweeping pond moss, also work great hanging in a tree for a TV antennae. You don't have to grease or paint, no maintenance, you can park 'em outside, they're usually free, and when worn out, you can make some money scrapping them. Another time I made a heavy and mighty drag out of rough cut 2x8's with rebar "frame" with spacers between boards, (for busting clods). Lighter boards would make a pretty good seed coverer. - If you could find a good use for that Japanese grass, say as biomass, it would probably die out quickly on its own.
The mower on the Mini Skid Steer works great. If I were to buy a mower for my tractor it would be the flail mower which I believe you ordered. They are great for mowing on ditches as they can be offset. The hammer blades work very well on brush and branches. A few videos back you had a mouse in your excavator engine bay. We had the same problem with a mouse chewing a wire in my wife's car (engine bay) which was expensive to repair (under the intake manifold). A friend of mine who is a mechanic suggests zip tying Bounce fabric sheets to wires and hoses in the engine bay. Since we did that, no more mouse problems chewing wires. Thanks for your time and effort in putting out great videos. In these troubled and uncertain times it's good to have the family near.

That mini skid is the ticket as you would say ! my dad used to say that ! I rode my bike on the State Park trail and saw 3 doe ! I have seen doe in a populated area in Gulf shores where there are small scopes of woods! My concern is that all the building down here the deer will loose their habitat but thankfully we have a lot of protected area down here !

Being someone that has been around and operated equipment my entire life I know a good operator when I see one abc you my friend are one of the best I’ve ever seen. It’s all about efficiency and your mind works a lot like some of the best operators I’ve seen. Sometimes you take for granted what it takes to be a good operator until you witness the average joe making a mess of things. Who knows, maybe you will be able to get a job as an operator when you grow up. Lol

I used to use a 6-8' piece of chain link fence with a concrete parking marker fastened to the end. Add a 6' piece of rebar to attach the tow chains to and bingo you have a good drag to rake in seeds..
Hi Mike and Melissa, I always find your videos to be educational and staight forward. When you cut that field you showed how tall, fast things just disappeared using that setup. Was incredible, just like this one doing trail maintenance and moving fallen tree's.. just sharing your experiences with others.. Happy to hear Hanna and family are moving back close by..
I only ,moved for a job right out of college. We were young and family was still close. We moved to a small faming community town and life was great. The next time we moved was out of that town not as much because of job but because the cost of diesel fuel and some family issues we needed to be closer to the older side of the family to make life easier. My kids are still within 2 hours of where we live, but having them close is top priority!
I worked for Hanover Shoe Inc for a number of years in the bottoming room. My older brother worked in the fitting or upper room (Franklin WV plant). We were both machinery mechanics and unless a person is familiar with the processes, no one will understand what a welt shoe goes thru being built or that the consumer will never put it the shoes thru during normal wear. This was back in the early 80's but I remember the foreman in the cutting room (I repaired the cutting dies) say a regular set of dies cost upwards of $35,000.00. Its very humbling seeing all the steps the leather must go thru just to get to my room where the upper meets the sole. Remember, there's a cement shoe & a welt shoe. Cement do not have a welt and when they wear out, they get tossed, not so with a welt type shoe. Lastly, I have the highest amount of respect for a shoe cobbler. Tis a dying art taken for granted. congrats to Tyler on the new job. As for mowing, I do a lot of brushhogging and yellow jackets are bad but the ones I find more often, especially in goldenrod like you just mowed, is the bald face hornet nests. The grey paper nests. they build in the weeds about a foot off the ground. These guys are just intimidating to me. I chopped one up last year and mowed next to the chopped up nest the next time around and they didn't nail me but they nailed my dog that was riding with me on the open cab tractor several times.

Here in Texas, along the OKLAHOMA border at 9:30pm, it is still at 90 degrees. Next week we get a break from the 100's into the upper 90's. People never cease to amaze me. The guy that was talking about the mini skid not being the right machine for the field you were mowing. Well why would someone say that? While you were mowing that field i was thinking, wow the Mini Skid with that attachment leaves the field way nicer that a regular brush hog. [Yeah i said brush hog, no body around me calls it a "rotary mower" lol...I enjoy all the equipment you use Mike, and you show , like you say, people what works for you and how to use equipment you have purchased, love the videos keep em comin :) Nice to have family close, esp in these days and times:❤💯🙏
It's amazing to me the similarities I see in your videos and my personal experience. I cut and split firewood for personal use only. We have tons of deer around. One of the does we have been watching on camera has broken front leg that healed into a stiff walking stick like leg. Your are blessed to have your family around. Our daughter and her family live in Ocala, FL.
Mike, when we plant our deer food plots here in nc, we always use a yellow pine limb to cover up the seeds. It's just something we have always done. Our soil is sandy, though. Have a great day, my friend.
Mike I love that you share wat you do, no matter what it is. I am convinced at this point that I dont need a tractor. It wouldn't be enclosed, so I am looking at a mini-skid. With all the attachments, I believe it would work better for me and my little 14 acre farm, than anything else. We named it "Mustard Farms". I am actualy going to grow mustard plants and trying to make our own Texas brand mustard. Keep up the good work!

That's an unfair statement. Being conservative has zero to do with living close to family. I'm a conservative, and I moved MY family to TX while our entire extended family lives in VA. Why? Because it was best for us and our family. It's my wife and I's God given job to do what best for our family. I'm passionate about this because too many parents want to meddle in and control their kids' lives even as adults. I will ALWAYS recommend newly married couples move away from parents to establish themselves as a family outside of parents. I'm not saying the Morgans are like that, but in general, it's a good practice for young couples.

My son is a video game maker in Pittsburg and want to be closer as I'm 67 now miss seeing him more than once a year. Looking for something south of Pitts, or northern western VA. We have as high as 10 doe and fawn that come by our house daily. We have 3 acres of woods around the house and the bed down close to the house or munch on grass in what little yard we have. I keep 5 gal of water out back for them, squirrels and birds.
I had multiple opportunities to move for promotions, some were significant. Turned them all down. Wanted to keep the family in familiar territory and friends. Time to move later. Well, our 4 kids and 8 1/2 grandchildren are now spread over 8 time zones. Thank goodness for texting and video calls. We miss them, but all have moved for love and opportunity ... not because they didn't like NEOhio nor us. We encouraged them to travel ... and they did. They are all happy where they are living, but also miss us. We try to have family reunions every few years.

I picked up a 6 ft. section of farm drag. Use it to drag any time i seed some part of the yard. I pull it behind my ATV. I can adjust the angle of the teeth to determine the depth of the seed cover. Usually go for 1 inch. All the neighbors know I have it and come and get it when needed. I have a section of chain attached to it with a 2 inch ring that just fits over a 2 inch ball on a hitch. Easy on and off. People have offered me good money for it but nver for sale. Free to use for anyone.
Good news about the family being close. I used to work in the Medical Imaging industry and was constantly asked to move here, there, everywhere. I live in Minnesota and grew up here as a farm kid. I traveled everywhere to repair systems from Philadelphia to California. My supervisor called me one day and said he wants me to work in Houston. I said that I doubt I will get a lot done if I am flying back and forth from Minnesota every day... He said no I want you to move there and I told him that was not happening. He told me that if I don't move I will most likely get laid off. I said that's fine but you can kiss all of the accounts that have in Minnesota goodbye as I will just take care of them and not wear myself out traveling... I never moved. I did move away from the nearby metro area to a quiet place with lakes, streams and farms. Its nice and my wife and I love it.
I know exactly what you mean about the having local connections for everything. I only moved 15 miles and lost all that. A few years ago, I moved back to my original town and have most of that back again. It's been 30 years, so many of the connections are not there anymore, but now there are new good businesses to help with my endeavors.
Mike, you told the story of people moving for a job and the one time we made that big decision back in 1991, my husband was given notice that 1,000 employees were being laid off the same week we closed on a new house at our new location! Wow, talk about sweating it. Worked out just fine and we’ve been here in the Pacific Northwest since. Congrats on your good news!!
So great to have all the family close! We have been lucky in that way so far with the exception of a son and daughter-in-law we just moved to Dallas. Waiting to hear where our son-in-law goes to medical school but hoping for an Arizona option. In our neck of the woods it feels like summer is never going to end. Mike, Just got a 2022 F250 Tremor. Hello Mike, been a subscriber for 4 years, I really enjoy your videos, great content, I know you really love equipment so I have a suggestion for you, I think you would really get a lot of good out of a 6 way dozer blade attachment for your skid steer, especially on those side hill trails. The ability to tilt the blade into a slope works amazing and is great for cutting drainage cut outs in roads. Please send some of that nice weather to Texas it’s been over 100 degrees for 3 straight weeks now and forecast for more next week. I live in the panhandle of Texas so we do get winter weather here some snow and ice temperatures in the single digits and brutal wind chill. I love a good fire, cup of coffee and a good read on a winter evening, and I love equipment. I think that’s why I love your channel so much. I love your positive attitude and your wife’s beautiful smile so keep on keeping on!!
