ABOUT ME
I’m 32 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 850 breeding ewes.
I shore over 19,000 sheep this season in the UK and have my own shearing run which lets you see many different farms in the summer months.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on RU-vid and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.

Sheep Fans, the algorithms are crushing this video so if you could give it a thumbs up and a comment to keep pushing it on that would be great. I think it’s an interesting video but i’m bias! 😁 Cammy

It is both interesting and educational I hope youtube gets its act together, you gave out adequate warnings beforehand, so what is their problem?. I think the vet’s fee was proportionate to the value of the sheep and very reasonable as was my local vet before they were taken over by a vet company.

Blue cactus dairy goats does ** warning graphic** in the title of difficult birthing vids. I wonder if that would help both you and Sandi. I found the content amazing, and felt you gave more than adequate warning. Sorry about YT!

I would say it is very hypocritical of RU-vid’s algorithms to be wanking around with this as it allows far more serious matter from the Russian Ukrainian war essentially uncensored. Bloody hypocritical RU-vid wankers!!! No better than Putin and his Putinists!!!

Sometimes the most important skill is knowing when you need assistance. It was great to see that the ewe's welfare was at the front of your mind rather than waiting, to try to avoid paying out for a vet, and causing unnecessary pain and distress to the animal.

I wondered for most of the video if this would mean no future pregnancies for this sheep--surprised to hear that she shouldn't have an issue in the future. I'm not a sheep farmer, or even sheep-farmer adjacent, but definitely seems like a better call to do it this way, especially with the size of the lambs! Loved the little update on her at the end. Glad she's doing well. Also, little Jock is adorable! When he's in his stroller and the sheep are coming to investigate the little human lamb was just too cute.

Withkht a caesar it is highly likely both lambs would de snd most likely the ewe as well. The ewe would have been damaged internally without vet intervention.

Omg I’m so glad I read this first before I watched the video, I was almost certain the sheep would have to be euthanized for the procedure. Incredible that they can perform that kind of surgery in a shed with good results for all!!

I know Jock's reaching for the camera, but as a viewer it really looks like he's trying to give everyone a virtual hug. So adorable, it still amazes me he has yet to be cranky, just smiley like his Mom and chatty like his Dad. I wish more farmers were like you, Cammy, putting the welfare of the sheep ahead of the expense of vet care. In the end, if both had survived the lambs would have covered the cost, plus the ewe survived. Really nice of Dr. Allan to explain the process as he went. Another great video!

As a 10 year old, with a small flock of sheep, I had a young ewe get in with a large ram. She just couldn’t give birth on her own (too small) we called the vet, he was a friend, he said load up the ewe and all the kids and meet me at the clinic. He brought all of his kids and we had a front row seat to our first C-SECTION. We were all 7-12 yrs old! What a memory. The lamb was 18 lbs!! Momma would not take lamb, so we tired a brick to her leg. The brick slowed her down a little and the lamb made it fine. Big memories for a bunch of little kids!! Thanks for all your videos…they are everything I remember when I raised sheep for a few years…minus smell-a-vision.

I think we're responsible to spend the $ to get the care the sheep needs. We've bred sheep to carry big and multiple lambs as well as other characteristics which nature would not do on it's own. Our creation, our responsibility right? Amazing to see the giant stitches the vet takes when sewing her up. I've had 2 C-sections and wonder if the doctor did the same. HA!

That is a very reasonable price for a vet call. I am sure it would be at least double that price here. (taking into account the exchange rate. ) That is why people hesitate to call the vet, often just to walk on the farm it is over $100. Thanks for sharing that.
@wendyrowland7787
@wendyrowland7787 2 года назад
Our vet fees have shot up since most local practices are being bought up by vet companies who are looking at every angle of how to increase income, mainly playing on the emotions of doting pet owners and doing expensive tests, many of which are not required. I could well afford calling out the vet when I was farming. I recently had to euthanise my also retired working dog. It cost £200 including disposal as the company runs a pet crematorium. The local incineration facility used to be good enough. That makes Cammy’s vet fees incredibly reasonable by comparison and the outcome was good in spite of losing the distressed lamb.

Same here in the us, worse since i have rabbits. A c section on one will run a minimum of 2000 usd now; when i was working as a vet tech , it was closer to cammys bill! Really getting far out of hand, and a crying shame.

@@RICDirector vet companies are just about screwing us now. It cost £200 to get my dog euthanised and disposed of this year. I understand small animal employed vets have to generate a certain income in order to keep their job. I do miss our original country vet who always hit the nail on the head and it was ‘All Creatures Great and Small.

Just rewatched. Grew up on a cattle and hog farm 60 plus years ago. Now have my own little farmette with plants and surrounded by cattle farm with one sheep farm a few miles away. Fun, informative video. Thanks for sharing!

I'm glad you're emotionally involved with your animals. Don't let what idiots tell you matter. Caring for sheep or any animal isn't all about just feeding and making money. If it is, then you're in the wrong profession. I love how you care about each one and I'm loving wee Jock and Lizzy as well.

fantastic and highly educational. anyone who says having a cesearian is the easy way out (I have heard it said) never had to witness or have one. kudos on making the right call.

Jock is so adorable. The way he lights it for the camera is funny. I hope that big lamb perks up and does well. That we lamb was so cute. It was good that you called the vet. Now that you have done the 1st you will be better at evaluating the need for a c-section. 😊

Glad you show everything Cammy! As a college student looking for his first piece of land for a farm I'm always looking to learn what it's really like to be a farmer. This was very educational and good to watch

Jock needs a Sheep Game hat! That boy is a bonny wee laddie. Loved the way he reached out to the sheep that came near him. Great video for so many reasons. Thanks Cammy.

Really good video, It just amazing how animals interact with infants children, not just sheep but I've seen cows do the same. The C section was really good to watch, as you said, real farming.

Honestly, I don't get why the algorithms hate this kind of video so much. I thought it was absolutely fascinating! Incredible to see that you can do this kind of surgery in an environment as non-sterile as a barn, with just a local anaesthetic, and save the sheep so much trauma in the process. Kudos to the vet and kudos to you, Cammy, for caring so much about the welfare of your animals. Keep the content coming and don't hesitate to post the graphic stuff as well!

Absolutely incredible, thank you for sharing. I've been looking forward to your lambing adventures, I appreciate you showing both the good and the bad of a sheep farmers life. Thank you and Lizzy for also sharing the glowing smiles and antics of Jock. He really put a smile on my face this time around. It looks like he likes your hair as much as the rest of us do 🙂

Love seeing surgery ( human or animal) and the speed in which your vet turned up and knocked it out was great and so professional. Love how the cows are so nosey. You never stop learning and honing your profession no mater what it is.

Quite an experience to watch way over here in New Jersey, USA. Can’t imagine what it was like to be right there in the middle of it. (I thought it’d be no big deal to watch. I don’t generally mind blood & guts but that was rough. I really did feel like I was right there.) Have to ask: was Mom not feeling anything after those locals(?) were put in? I was so worried for her. At some point you told us not to worry, she wasn’t feeling anything but I felt like I’d been worrying since the first layer was cut. I knew all along you wouldn’t allow Mom to be hurt but I worried nonetheless. Sorry about the lamb that didn’t make it. Maybe all three would have been lost if she had been out in a field and hadn’t been spotted and you hadn’t made the decision you did. Bless you and yours. Y’all have beautiful spirits. ♥️

When a c section is done, they usually give more than just the local. Usually something that lasts considerably longer, like butorphanol, and when we did one goat, she even got a fentanyl patch.

I used to ride along with a friend that was a large animal vet and saw some interesting things. Not many sheep where I grew up so this was a first for me. Thanks for taking us along despite lambing being such a busy time.

If you had told me a few months ago that I'd be watching lambing videos and fascinated by a sheep c-section, I would have said I need to get a life. Well, I probably should get my own life-haha but it's been great getting to see your life and learning so much about farming and raising sheep. It takes special people to allow the world into your world and you and Lizzie do it magnificently. Thank you!

That was amazing to witness. The stress of making that decision was apparent but that's the joy of running your own work. You live & die by your own decisions, especially when the end result is successful. Jock is getting so big so quickly too. Thanks for sharing this Cammy.
