In today's Family Farm Vlog, MaryCarl informed me she really wanted this rare bantam duck breed called the East Indies Duck. So we looked on eBay and found some fertile hatching eggs and they arrived on the homestead today. So we are letting the duck eggs rest for 24 hours, then we are putting them in the GQF 1502 incubator & in about 3 weeks, we should have some baby ducklings!

MaryCarl is the "bird girl" She is so knowledgeable about ALL the birds her chickens included. Her enthusiasm is contagious!! I wonder if she will become a VET ? She LOVES all the animals on the farm . I admire that she does research on ducks etc and KNOWS everything. AMAZAING daughter you have Mr and Mrs Cog Hill

When Mary Carl said “those are Dutch Hookbills and and I really like them” while flipping through her book, it gave me big ‘ol grin. I raise a lot of ducks with hookbills being one of the breeds I have and love. This last summer I got hookbill hatching eggs to Whitehouse on the Hill and hookbill ducklings to VW Family Farm. I love the breed , their beautiful birds and would be glad to get you some hatching eggs or hookbill ducklings in the spring for Mary Carl if you would like. Good luck MC! We tried hatching some ducks. Unfortunately only 1 of 9 survived. We may need to take some lessons and teaching on the duck front. Posting a youtube video today about our duckling that made it.

When MC got up to put the eggs away, my girls get up off the floor that way... remember when we were young !! Now If we even tried that we'd blow out both knees , I'd fall crack my head , bust my back up LOL... The hook bill just went out because they went more to the white leghorn eggs. I someday want to get some of them also. Instead I am going with the Beltsville Small white Turkey. They are also on the endangered/Critical list. Love how much Mary Carl knows about the things she wants. She is so smart and does her own research. She is one of a kind. So good luck with the hookbill ducks. So jealous of you already starting a hatch. Last year I OD'ed on hatching eggs. I started in Jan and hatched until June. So this year I will start in March until end of May. After that it is too hard to keep it humid in the incubator. Get to dry.
