The instrument you're hearing is a smaller higher-pitched cowbell (there are various sizes of cowbells - I'm a drummer and I own several) played with the tip of a drumstick - usually, it's played with the butt end of the stick whacked across the side of the bell to get a lower-pitched sound. The Tremeloes are a great and sometimes overlooked 60s Brit band. I recommend checking out Call Me Number One, which is very mid-to-late period Beatles-influenced. Great video for it, showing the band in the studio and playing outside.

The Tremeloes had a few hits during the early to mid 60s, including a number one cover of "Do You Love Me" in 1963, when the band were known as Brian Poole and The Tremeloes. After Brian Poole left the band in 1966, he was replaced by singer and bass player Len "Chip" Hawkes. He later managed his son Chesney Hawkes, who had a UK number 1 with "The One and Only" in 1991. Here Comes My Baby was the start of a successful run of UK singles for The Tremeloes, between 1967 and 1970. Including their number one Silence is Golden, which was their follow up to this track.

One of the great things about this era of music...it was all new! No one had done what each band was doing so it was fresh and new! And a lot of the artists were having fun, like these guys were. Plus...they had to have that raw talent. Because there was no auto tune and electronic magic back then.

This is such a joyous having-a-party arrangement of Cat Stevens' (AKA Yousef Islam) song that you barely notice the sadness of the lyrics. Quite a lot of that in the 1960s, Motown, for example, specialised in it! A definite one to go on your "todo list" is Jeff Christie's monster hit "Yellow River" which hit UK #1 in 1970 - The Tremeloes created the backing track for that. They also released their own version subsequently, but Jeff's vocal on their backing track was peerless. The Tremeloes were always a great band. Some of their other singles deserve your attention: "Silence is Golden" (a Four Seasons hit in the US, but a UK #1 hit for the Tremeloes). "Hello World", "Even the Bad Times are Good", "Hello Buddy", "Suddenly you Love me" (another sad-song-sung-happy!) and most of all "Me and My Life" - which was a real departure for them and (along with it's B side "Try me") showed that the Tremeloes could do much more than just good-time harmony pop.

LOVE The Tremeloes! A little British Invasion trivia: the first song by a UK band to top the US pop charts was an instrumental, "Telstar" by the Tornados, from 1962. A great 60's Invasion group to react to is Manfred Mann. Do Wah Diddy Diddy and Pretty Flamingo are two good ones. They also did Fox On The Run - same title as the song by The Sweet but a different song. I don't know if they had a hit in the US but Baby Come Back by the Equals is a great tune - ft. a young Eddy Grant (Electric Avenue). I hitch-hiked to the Welsh coast when I was 15, stayed in a bed & breakfast and wandered around town, ended up at the end of the pier seeing some old 60's group called the Tremeloes, slow-danced with the daughter of the lead singer throughout the gig, getting dagger looks from the front man the whole time! It always fascinates me how younger American reactors are totally unaware of the huge influence these bands had on us Brits back in the day, as their songs would be played on national radio stations regularly for years afterwards, and even today on oldies national stations. Possibly you just didn't have one or two national stations over there which covered the entire country, instead I believe many big cities had their own radio stations, never mind those stations catering to individual styles of music. Back in the 60's and 70's we had no real choice, so everyone heard the same music even if they didn't enjoy it !

Love this song and there's an excellent video of them playing this live and they're having so much fun doing it. One of those perfect good times 60s songs.

i often hear younger ppl say they wish they had been born in the 1970s or 60s. When i was a young in the 1960s 70s i never wanted to be born earlier then i was....Those days were the best you could possibly have and a sound track that just blew your mind

THIS is a great opportunity to introduce y'all to my good and old friends, "THE MAVERICKS!" They have been making great western swing, country, classic rock and all with a Latin flavor for about 30 years now. Please look them up because they covered this same song and were AWESOME!!

The Mavericks always put a smile on my face. Raul Malo has a great voice! "All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down", "Here Comes My Baby", "Dance The Night Away", "Back In Your Arms Again" and their rendition of "Blue Moon" are my favourites.

How about Laugh, Laugh by The Beau Brummels? It was featured on an episode of The Flintstones!

My favourite version of this classic Cat Stevens song is by the British rock band The Jags in 1981 .. It's got lots of style and attitude .. I also quite like Cat's original too .. I prefer both of those versions to this one, although it's still a good quality cover .. I think the song itself is just so great that it would be hard for anyone to do it badly !

You should listen to Friday on My Mind by The EasyBeats. It’s such a fun song! I love it. They’re a band from Australia. Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃
