If it was easy, everyone would do it!
Join us for a not-so-enjoyable sail to the remote islands of the Tuamotus. 😩 We struggled to stay positive when the weather forecast was dead wrong, our chartplotter screen and mainsail lazy jack broke, and we found ourselves navigating through the narrow, unfamiliar pass dodging numerous bommies with terrible visibility and 25kn winds, despite our patience and careful planning. 💨⛵️ Thankfully, we arrive safely, have a sushi-making party with friends🍣, and appreciate the beauty around us even more because of the difficult journey… 🏝️

Well you certainly worked hard during this sail. As always great video. You are always so prepared and make it all work on this end it is impressive. Bacon and sushi you just can't go wrong there. Exciting whenever sharks are around. Well done.

Very entertaining videos. Thanks for posting. Hey I love the hat Ray is wearing on the dingy ride. Perfect brim! Any leads on where I could buys one? Thanks again.

Thanks for watching! We picked that hat up at a marine chandlery, we see similar ones at most marine shops- it’s great. :)

@3:18 Gang I love this! If you're heading SSW, Sabado's rudders are at -8, and your TWA is 118 then reduce headsail and sheet in the main. Lagoons with the mast abaft have big power to the foresail and tend to want to go downwind more than not. Try it! I'd love to hear if this works. My house is for sale and I'm coming!!!!!

We tend to have the opposite issue! Since we have a self tacking jib, our headsail is too small- we’d love to test out a bigger Genoa or something on the bowsprit… SO exciting to hear about your house! Best of luck selling, maybe we’ll share an anchorage one day. 🌊

*Summary* * *0:36* *Challenging Conditions:* The sail was rough due to inaccurate weather forecasts, forcing them to beat upwind in uncomfortable seas. * *4:30* *Equipment Malfunctions:* Their chartplotter screen began failing, and the mainsail lazy jack broke during a stormy night, requiring a risky nighttime repair. * *7:04* *Navigation Hazards:* Arriving at night, poor visibility delayed their entrance through a narrow pass filled with coral bommies. * *8:18* *Triumphant Arrival:* Despite the difficulties, they safely anchored in a stunningly beautiful location. * *12:06* *Celebration & Wildlife:* They enjoyed a sushi party with friends (using yellowfin tuna caught on the journey) and spotted sharks near their boat. i used gemini 1.5 pro to summarize the transcript

Wondering why it was so important to go up the mast in the middle of a moonless night to repair a lazy jack. Would not have been safer to wait for the light of day?

It was forecasted to be very squally, we wanted to be able to sail/reef and were 6+ hours away from sunrise. Also difficult to re-fuel here so we were hoping to motor as little as possible! Luckily he only had to go up to the spreader.
