Tommy, you should of pulled the shift lever over to the left to prevent from going above 4th gear towing heavy. That would raise your rpm on the flat, but over all you would get better mpg and put less strain on the transmission. I'm sure the elevation is the main reason for your loss of power. What size tires are you running now? 285/60R18 is the standard size, and on my 2009 switching to factory size KO2's D load you can tell they have slight more drag than factory tires. If you have larger diameter tires, KO2's, and lifted you with certainly have more power losses unless you re-gear. The Land Cruiser has a 3.90 rear where as the Tundra most likely has 4.30's or 4.10's. If you had 4.30's in the cruiser it would tow pretty well despite the shorter wheel base.

I don’t understand how some companies cannot make reliable cars. Is it because they cut corners? Or are their cars engineered to fail so that consumers will buy the next one? If companies like Toyota and Chevy can build rigs that run strong and tow for hundreds of thousands of miles with no major issues what stops companies like Land Rover and Alf’s Romeo from building reliable cars? I mean even Audi has gotten their act together. To me, the most important aspect of a “quality” vehicle is dependability. So when reviewers talk about the “build quality” of brands, any brand that cannot product a army of robust vehicles should automatically be considered crap. What good is an Alcántara headliner when your vehicle shits to bed before 30,000 miles. Kudos to Toyota and Honda and Ford and GM form making decent freaking vehicles.
@captaintf7759
@captaintf7759 5 лет назад
Engineered to fail. That is the whole principle behind the leasing idea. The idea being that because most people are changing cars after two or three years and don’t need that sort of dependability makes it easier to build a car that will be dead after a few years

Noooo problem! That wasn’t a surprise, 150k miles or not. You really don’t have to do 70 mph. That is the “maximum” posted speed limit, not the speed you “must” drive. I know, you know, about the video where slowing down gained 15.5% fuel economy. Don’t listen to the people that say, you have to do at least the speed limit or you will cause an accident, they just don’t want to deal with slower vehicles or have bought into the myth. As the saying goes, repeat something enough times, it HAS to be true. It isn’t. Just keep to the right on 4+ lane highways. It is kinda fun watching the gong show of people trying to rip by you, then 15 minutes later, you pull in 2-3 minutes behind them at the restaurant, or gas station etc. They are stressed by the “traffic” and you are just relaxed and ready for more. I used to be one of the gong show, it is how I was taught to drive, then switched to the guy doing the speed limit. It was shocking how much more relaxed I was after driving on the QE II highway here in Alberta. This highway is treated like the autobahn by many here! A friend was killed on this highway by being the passenger in a vehicle where the guy driving was texting and lost control at a “speed significantly higher than the posted speed limit” in a mini van! It has happened several times on this highway already. It is like any busy major highway/freeway I suspect.
@nothingtoseaheardammit
@nothingtoseaheardammit 5 лет назад
I drive a Hummer. My top speed is 65mph and I can say without a doubt that if you aren't keeping up with traffic you ARE being dangerous unless you're a giant truck. Even in the slow lane.
@shitloveaduck
@shitloveaduck 5 лет назад
Tad P - to each their own I guess. I have yet to see a dangerous situation occur around me excepting when some idiot flys up on me with his phone in hand and head down reading the phone, instead of driving responsibly. That is not caused by me, that is caused by the idiot behind me. Why do you only drive 65 if you think you are a danger on the road? Baffling.
@RickysHP
@RickysHP 5 лет назад
You don't see it, because you're oblivious to the stack-up of traffic behind you.... As someone gets slowed down in the right lane behind you, they eventually have to pull out to pass your slow ass. The time it takes to get up to speed causes someone behind THEM in the passing lane to have to slow down, too. Long story short, you're creating a cloud of dangerous blockage that follows you down the interstate. There have been times where I've been stuck behind 30+ vehicles all jockeying slower and faster, slower and faster (dangerously so, changing speeds by 30mph or more), all to find out the SOLE reason for it is some very slow vehicle in the right lane that's causing a rolling half-highway barricade that everyone is trying to get around. Long story short, keep up with traffic. Speed doesn't kill -- Speed differentials do.
@RestrictedHades
@RestrictedHades 5 лет назад
So the driver was killed because he was distracted because he was texting and driving not because of speed.
@shitloveaduck
@shitloveaduck 5 лет назад
Ricky C - I see it, I am a very aware driver. That is also why I call it a gong show due to all the people, you even confirm are jockeying for position etc. The thing as a former member of law enforcement and having many friends still in law enforcement, the accidents that occur are never the fault of the slow vehicle. The rare occasion it is the slower vehicle’s fault is due to them swerving lanes to block 1, or every vehicle behind, the idiots that brake check them because they are “going to show them!” It is not illegal to go slower than you feel safe on the highway. The speed limit of 70 mph, for example, is the top “limit” as to how fast you are to travel on the highways. There are also freeways where there are no vehicles allowed under 40 mph. If they are doing 50 mph, they are legal, as long as they stay in the right lane and don’t intentionally obstruct traffic. Like I said, don’t listen to those that say driving slower causes accidents, it is a myth. The accidents occur because those that are behind them drive irresponsibly and cause the accidents, not the slow vehicle. The slower vehicle is following the law. Period. It is those that drive like jerks having to be at the supposed front of the line, have to do exactly 70 mph, because that is what it says (which is incorrect) are too important to recognize that they are not the only vehicle on the highway/freeway going somewhere. How can it be exactly 70 mph? No two vehicles register the exact same speed, there can always be a variance from one to the next in the speedometers. If I were on ANY freeway and drove the exact speed limit posted as per GPS, for example, I can legally drive in the left hand lane in North America. I don’t have to get over, I don’t have to do anything but set the cruise and go. That is because the speed limit is exactly 70 mph and no one else is driving any other speed thus no congestion. If only it was that easy. Even if there are varying speeds like the real world, I don’t have to get over for faster traffic. The speed limit is 70 mph, I should already be the fastest moving vehicle on the highway. I only need to get over if I am doing less than 70 mph. Cool!

I agree that the LC200 is certainly capable of towing (boat trailer that pushes 6000 fully loaded), but would not be my first choice if I towed regularly. The short wheelbase (vs a pick-up) is an issue, but I have not had a problem with my trailer, but then I don’t really tow often at all. Since the LC gets crappy mileage with no trailer, you can imagine the mileage with a trailer! The size of the fuel tank seems to be the one oversight that I’ve identified, but I’m not quite a year in. Nice to have the capability, but towing is definitely not the reason to buy an LC.

You guys should get some cool black aftermarket headlights with led's for the TFL Pro. They run about $300.00. It would make it look so much better than those ugly chrome ones.

You'll get another 150,000 miles out of that Land Cruiser easy - it'll be as old as that merc is and still be on the road.

@RyanRKJ

I'd say the value is probably comparable to before the mods, however you would be selling to a much narrower audience, so it might take longer to find a buyer.

I'd like to know more about that 450sl and the $1500 put into it, and then can only get $4000 with delivery for it. I worked for a family that had one and I got to ride in it a couple times (just short trips), but never got to drive.

Why? Overdrive is just another gear. They had it in tow/haul.
@akilghosh

@@beemrmem3 Land cruiser doesn't have tow haul mode. It has a power button which holds the gear longer. Also my truck has an over drive button which has to be switched off when towing .
