We Might Never Witness This Again... 

It is mind-blowing to me that we haven't seen another player scoring 20+ rushing touchdowns since 2006...

The 2000's were such a great time to be an NFL fan. The passing game was popping off, but the running game was still important. Big, hard hits were still common and we didn't quite know yet how dangerous and damaging they really were.

It’s crazy how the RB/HB position is so undervalued these days. When I was growing up in the 80’s & 90’s that was one of the highest valued positions. I miss the big power backs like Bo Jackson. I miss the juke moves of a Barry Sanders or the all around game if Emitt Smith. We’re some great days of watching strong, fast and shifty running backs.

Those Tomlinson, Adrian Peterson, Priest Holmes years were great.

As i was watching this i noticed something kinda absurd to think about. Of the 9 on this list, only one of them is on the list of 2k rushers, that being Terrell Davis, and in his case he got both 2k and 20+ Rush TDs, 2 rings, and an MVP in only 6 years (technically only 4 years cuz he only started 9 games in his last 2 years, so thats even more mind boggling)

Man 90s-2000s RBs are my favorite breed of football players of all time. Unfortunately I don’t think we’ll see another 20+ rush TD season. Not to discredit the incredible QBs and WRs we have nowadays, but with all the soft pass interference, helmet/defenseless receiver, and roughing the passer calls, it’s so much less risk to pass in todays game. Both players are untouchable. You can get down the field without even having a completion lol

Riggins was 34 years old when he scored 24 TD’s. All the others were at least five years younger.

We will see 20+ rush TDs again. I can almost garentee it.

Holmes did it twice! Would have 3 times in a row too with 14 in 8 games. Put the man in the HOF

I did a project on this in my college algebra class in 2007 by charting the touchdown leaders year by year showing how it consistently increases. My conclusion on it was that even though the math shows that touchdowns will continue to rise year after year I believe that trend will stop due to teams going to a backfield by committee approach and along with more passing in the red zone. If LT’s record will be broken it will likely be done by a wide receiver or a hybrid player that will have double digit rushing and receiving touchdowns.

The RB is still very valuable, especially in short yardage situations and ball control. History tells us theyre valuable thats why management won't sign them to max contracts. If you feed a great RB the ball he will get at least 1500 yards and double figures in TD's. That means you would have to pay the QB AND the RB top money.

Not the point of this video(referencing the Washington and Oakland SB) but one underated thing about the NFL post-free angency(starting in 93) was the fact it stopped the era of Super Bowl blowouts. That has to be a huge reason why up until the early 90s most super bowls were uncompetitive

Its interesting that at a time when passing stats were starting to explode league wide we got some of the most impressive rushing seasons of all time.

Not sure this is as impressive as many might believe. Often times a workhorse running back would gain the bulk of the yardage, and then another back will score the touchdown. Usually teams would have a red zone offensive scoring package… Many times you would see a back scamper off a long run of sixty, seventy yards or more, only to be taken down inside the twenty, only to have another back punch in the scoring run. When Emmitt Smith broke Riggins record, the Cowboys were actively trying to give that honour to Smith. As for Holmes and Johnson, both were on the Chiefs between the 2002 and 2005 when they both achieved this feat, which could be attributed as much to the offensive line, as it was for Smith with the Cowboys… Tomlinson, Alexander, and even Terrell Davis, those three specifically were simply anomalies. Davis particularly, was never quite the same after his leg injury the following season after literally posting the BEST Running Back season of all time (2,000+ Yards | 20+ Touchdowns | Second consecutive Super Bowl Victory)… 🤔

Fun fact: Josh Allen has more rushing td’s in his career than CMC….but he’s overrated lol. Funner fact: Jim Harbaugh has more career rushing yards than Bo Jackson.

If anyone has a chance to do this for the 24 season, my vote would be Derrick Henry for Baltimore. He’s probably not going to rush for +2,000 yards but he could be a goal line specialist like late career Jerome Bettis or the way Jamal Williams was for Detroit a few years ago

B Robinson has the least amount of TD's taken away by QB, and while Atlanta has weapons, not as many as San Fran. I dont think anyone will do it again for a while, but there is my guess. I like Gibbs but too many goal line touches for Montgomery.
