Welcome to another thought-provoking episode on SMWX. This time, we are excited to host Siya 'Slikour' Metane, a South African rapper, businessman, and visionary who's consistently shaped the landscape of the South African music industry.
In this in-depth conversation, Slikour shares his insightful views on the pressing theme, "We must own the economy". He draws from his profound experiences to shed light on how the principles of ownership can fundamentally transform our economy, and why it's crucial for the next generation.
As an influential member of the renowned hip-hop group Skwatta Kamp and the creative mind behind 'Slikour on Life', he is no stranger to overcoming adversity, breaking boundaries, and navigating the complex world of the music industry. Here, he takes us through his journey, highlighting the triumphs and trials that shaped him into the influential figure he is today.
We also delve into his new book, 'Slikour: The Life Story of a Hip-Hop Pioneer', a powerful reflection on his life and the music business revolution he has been a part of. This conversation is a must-watch for anyone interested in gaining a new perspective on economics, appreciating the power of hip-hop, or understanding the grit it takes to revolutionize an industry.

The most underrated leader of society, Slikour. "Create new rules, do not break the rules, politicians are busy trying to take what already has rules built into it", very enlightening.

South Africa's political liberation came from music (music was instrumental in the battle for liberation), it would be insane if South Africa's economic liberation came from music as well. Insane but not unthinkable or surprising.

@lekis5975 my brother you are so good with words and history. Entertainment it our low-hanging fruit for economic emancipation but music it's the therapeutic mechanism that our forefathers used to liberate themselves from evil past it's still also going to deliver us economically.

One song that rounds up the respect I have for this brother right here Slikour is a song called Dreamer I wish blacks can listen to this song over and over again 🤞🏾it is such an emotional song for me the song can change our whole mentality about life in general and our obsession with certain things as blacks 🙏🏾

In the past, Slikour has said some foolish things about our people. But I believe that that was the lowest point of his career. I think he needed that to bring him back to the reality of black people across the spectrum. I enjoyed this, thank you, Sizwe for this interview.

Which Winnie Mandela book? Are you referring to the recent book about the Mandela's marriage? If that's the case, it's a hard NO from me. As usual the writer stayed slagging off uMam Winnie, the powers that be are still working hard to tarnish her legacy. Avoid that hatchet job and go buy Black- buy Slikour's book.
