Welcome to SMWX, where we delve into the intricate tapestry of Africa’s political, economic, and social landscape. In this episode, we will be unraveling the multifaceted causes of the recent wave of coups sweeping across the African continent.
We will dissect the political underpinnings of these upheavals, focusing on the role of internal political instability and the historical and contemporary implications of antipathy towards France within Africa. The complex interplay between African nations and French influence has had a significant impact on the political dynamics and economic structures of several African states, and we will explore how these ties have potentially fueled the environments conducive to coups.
Additionally, we’ll venture into the security dimensions of instability, particularly concentrating on the challenges within the Sahel region. This region is emblematic of the intricate conjunction of political unrest, economic distress, and security concerns prevailing in several African countries experiencing coups.
Furthermore, our discussion will encompass the economic ramifications and motivations behind these coups, emphasizing the economic relationships and dependencies between African countries and France. We’ll explore how these economic ties and the ensuing implications have served as catalysts for political change and unrest.
Join us on SMWX as we shed light on these pressing issues, offering insights and analyses to understand the complexities and the underlying factors driving the surge of coups in Africa. Whether you are a scholar, a policy enthusiast, or someone keen on African affairs, this episode is poised to offer a nuanced perspective on the ongoing political transformations within the continent.

Excellent content Sizwe. Whether it's in the school curriculum or history told through storytelling, very little effort is made to help Africans understand their own history. Crucially how this history directly affects how we relate with the coloniser and the neo-colonial project which keeps more than 1 billion Africans on the continent in abject poverty.

Although Zimbabwe needs to shake off their old leader, I am sceptical of the main opposition... I hope one day Sizwe can interrogate this issue of African leaders with blatant Western ties. Zimbabwe is the new Eldorado, as some analysts have said. There's lithium and all these other high value minerals needed for greening the planet. We can't be naive to assume that doesn't bring a certain reaction from East and West. Zimbabwe in my view needs to put partisan politics aside and "select" the best suited candidate to fast-track black emancipation, which, whether we want to admit or not has been set in motion by the current leadership. We've already seen a really disappointment in Zambia....we can't move forward blindly at such a critical time for the continent. Anyway, great episode Doc!

Eish we want African nations to prosper but these leaders are so corrupt man, and the next best thing is a puppet president. In one of the videos there was a discussion about whats next black people in South Africa after apartheid but I also think that net should be cast broader into Africa as well. Whats next after colonialism and dictatorships. If theres gonna be a reset in the 3 pillars of power eMzansi then the same must happen with the AU, were we will then come up with the way forward for all African states, for piece and prosperity in Africa

Another great analysis from Dr Mpofu-Walsh. People native to Africa are poor. Those that have experience in the military are not an exception. So if people are poor, guns are more expensive than what is needed to satisfy basic needs, then how on earth can they possibly access those guns if there is not a more powerful and affluent International force behind very coup in the Sahel? Nyibuza nje 🤔

As painful as it is, we South Africa#Black South Africa is still a colonized nation, it is right in front of our face, we are turning a blind eye, we are scared to take on the Elephant in the room. More than 95% of our economy is in the hands of the colonizers.

Yet our policy makers are predominantly black. The majority of the labour force at different levels is predominantly black. The majority of consumers of products and services offered by these 'owners' of our economy, are black. Am I missing something?

Well said. We are comfortable that the land still belong to the colonisers and we keep saying if the majority get the land we will starve since the majority won't use land appropriate which is sad because we undermine ourselves and the ability of being in control. We need to wake up and do something than this comfort zone.

Thank you for this information. I am very concerned that the South African government seems to take the same position as the the American government seems to take the same "distant" position when it comes to African matters that they are not interested in. We need to start in Lesotho, Eswatin to Mozambique and Zimbabwe and press their leaders to look after their people. We literally have so much influence and many African countries look up to us yet we are not using that influence to our advantage. This young man needs support from South Africa and not a silent treatment we are giving him. We have been bullied far too long by the West collective, France seems to be the last parasite that doesn't seem to want to get off its host.

I also think the celebrations are premature. However, ensuring a truly power transition is in the hands of the people. They should be the pressure behind the transition and the forefront leaders must know that if they regurgitate the system aimed at toppling, the people will "eat them alive". Power has never worked when left in the hands of the few.

Africa is a mess!!! I just don’t understand how these dictators want to be president for over a 100 years🙄 especially when they are clearly failing. Most of them think just because they fought against colonialism that they should be presidents forever. We are now tired. It’s time for young people to be given a chance to lead and transform our economies because clearly the old folks(dictators) have failed dismally. Great video sizwe!!

Another very important aspect of the details behind ECOWAS creating their own currency called the ECO. ECOWAS had worked very hard on that currency, and it was very close to being implemented until one of France's biggest puppets, Alasane Ouattara, the president of Ivory Coast filled France in on the details and agreed to change the name of the CFA Franc to the ECO, to essentially sabotage the new ECOWAS currency.
@theonly6359

That particular one of Ivory Coast 🇨🇮 is the real puppet of puppets for France 🇫🇷. He will do everything to make sure all those west African countries are in shackles. He should be toppled and made an example by public whipping.

West Africa hss always been like that. Im 50 this year and when i was in primary school in the 80s it was routine and standard to hear on the news of some civil war or coup in that God forsaken part of Africa Ironically its the region that most non Africa'ns think of and associate with Africa 😢😡😡 I mean whenever Hollywood wants to portray an African the person always has West African features and of course the accent 😢😡😡 You notice how even in Pan African parliament the west africans led the way i frustrated efforts by southern Africa for rotation. The leaders are very pro west and stooges

Let's also look, in future videos from you, at covert colonialism. Let's look at China and Russia, who have had their eyes and fingers in the African pie, and how some nations are now caught in a stranglehold after accepting wonderful 'generosity' from these nations but are not or unable to pay back and how this results in the plundering of African resources, exported legally and illicitly to these nations, thanks to corrupt leadership within African governments while the people remain in poverty. This is my concerned. We're too busy scrutinizing the colonial past whilst the home around us is being picked apart by a much more covert force.
@Tripleexel

Partnering with Russians is not anti colonial. They can leave this currency union if they want its just that people aren't prepared to pay the price for that freedom. Ask Zimbabwe creating a new currency is not easy. At the end of the day show me a successful military coup that transformed an African country for the better.
