Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture. With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

Right to repair ..... Something mother deere is highly against. Not saying them other colors are much better but jeez, Deere and Harley are two companies that just want their customers to suffer. @@winkletown8828 that’s not it at all. I think the right to repair has been hugely misconstrued. Nobody complains that they can’t fix there laptop or phone. How about vehicles, washers and dryers now as well. As technology advances it takes special equip or software to perform repairs. It’s not really the brand. It’s just the way technology is headed. Most customers can do the physical repair on there units.but if it comes to diagnosing a repair sometimes it takes more then a Manual to figure it out.. hopefully that makes sense.

Next time on "Millennial Famer": Jim replaces Zack's phone ring tones with the 4640 error beep. Becky lets Zack know that he still hasn't cleaned up the "bin mess" in the yard and he needs to get on that. Zack's father calls to say the digger is working great and has no electrical issues and hopes Zack's day is going well. Police are called when Zack has a breakdown at the local super market about food he wants to get but can't because it's on row 12.

I am so glad I found your channel. I grew up on a small farm on the eastern side of Wisconsin. I used to help my Dad with planting corn for many years. Nothing as sophisticated as what you have. I think we planted 6 rows at a time. My Dad ran the tractor with the planter and I ran the truck with the seed bags and fertilizer. After Dad would fill up on both I would drive the truck down the lane to the next fill up spot. Then I’d lay out on the bags and work on my farmer tan. My Dad passed away last Nov. but watching your videos brings back so many good memories. Thank you for sharing your farmers life. Blessings to you and your family

So complicated, computer farming. Like cars that are mechanically fine but the computer malfunctions. One of ours came back from a work shop, next day went on a long trip where little civilisation and it started roaring the engine and going fast by itself then going slow over and over. The mechanic on the phone saying it should clear. Did settle….for a bit. At the end of the day went totally mad, blew masses of smoke, up and down the speed….by itself, no control. As a retired engineer I have a few thoughts; first, one bad sensor shouldn’t be able to stop the whole operation. You should be able to take that sensor “ out of scan “ and continue planting one less row or there may be a problem with the program itself. Secondly, it appears the sensors/transducers may not be heavy built enough to withstand the environment they’re in-- heat or vibration. I plant and sell an acre of sweet corn every year using my 2 row 3pt Ford 309 planter. No GPS. No sensor. Works great. Good luck.

Last year we had only 2 weeks or less opportunity to plant. So we went like hell the first chance we got, got all the corn planted. Then it ass pounding rained 2 inches in like an hour. Broke over everything, washed dirt everywhere. Made it a huge mess. Also yeah we enjoy listening to you talk to yourself. That's basically what you do lol 😆. I would not be surprised with the rain+wind it got exposed to if a weatherpacking failed in a connector somewhere and there is some nice blue and green crusties causing a voltage drop to ground that's confusing the sensors. That 5V undervolt is a great indicator of it. Or a wire somewhere got damaged in the tornado, perhaps internally without insulation and there is an intermittent connection. And hunting that down takes time and isolation. And time... time is certainly not on your side :(
@TheElectricgamez

that's sounds logical. I do think that the strom caused damage somewhere where it isn't easy to spot or diagnose
@jazzerbyte
@jazzerbyte 2 года назад
I agree - this is exactly what it sounds like. This type of thing is also likely to be intermittent which also takes longer to troubleshoot. Thinking pie in the sky: It would be interesting if connectors could have auto diagnostics by measuring standing waves generated by the regular interface. A trouble code "connector 42 is intermittent on red-white striped wire" would be easier to find.

Damage to wiring which can be as small as a splinter having been driven into a wiring harness is so hard to find unless you just get lucky. And they need to be planting right now not spending days and days isolating connections and looking for faults. I know how F-in frustrating getting nothing done due to the smallest issues, like a sensor, or some tiny thing on a corn head bent 2° so its not noticeable but causing all the problems. Yet, seeing another farmer lose his mind, well its like therapy for other farmers who where earlier in the day losing theirs…. Like were not alone… haha so altho its pure frustration and real. Thank you for showing the real side noone talks about. Cause especially this year when the sun comes out a very short timer starts before the next rain and your stuck anyway!

random errors on sensors that use a single power delivery line are often grounding problems to the voltage supply, easy to check by hitching to another machine for a few minutes
@vicomt

I was thinking this as well. if something got mashed together when the planter got landed on, it might be very difficult to track down a split wire or something similar

grounding problems can also be on the positive lead also. A glitch in a modern computer running at 50Mhz will drive any sensor or op amp crazy with false codes. Check the positive voltage feed also

Weird intermittent codes like that are almost always wiring related. Look for a power feed or ground that is shared between the sensors. Something might have gotten stretched or mashed in the wiring harness when the shed fell on it.

I agree with some on here. With all the moisture y'all have experienced this year and the impact that planter took from the roof falling on it while rain was being driven at 100 mph, I bet connections have corroded or sensors got waterlogged. With the impact and all the movement that planter makes I also wouldn't put it past a pinched or partially separated conductor somewhere that makes intermittent contact which would involve a continuity test on every conductor. You could do that with a multimeter. I would definitely get some electronic contact cleaner and some dielectric grease unplug every wire and sensor and clean the connections and coat them. You could always bypass in parallel the bad sensor with a few wires from a sensor that is working next to it. The computer will not know the difference. All it sees are connections. The downside is if it does stop planting you won't know. They should install a system or diagnostic that lets you hook directly to that one row and run through all the motors, sensors, belts etc. Good luck.

I'm probably late to the game, but I've had the same issue on my exactemerge. It ended up being the seed bowl itself. The tension on the seed bowl was set too heavy and the motor was not strong enough to spin the meter. After backing off the tension, the problem went completely away. If you end up keeping the planter, try putting dielectric grease in all the dowforce sensor harness connector plugs and then put heat shrink tube over the plug. That has worked well for clearing up downforce sensor issues.

Hate to see all the problems you are having. We have ran a 16 row 1255 Case planter for 8 seasons now. We wouldn’t change brands for anything.
