PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is a game with a lot of potential, and I feel that it was made at the worst possible time. It was an extremely rough game. But I feel as though this is the right time for an attempt at this sort of game to be made. I have no other feelings beyond that.

This is honestly tough. Because when you think of a fighting game, most people’s eyes go to Smash due to its casual and hardcore appeal. It has the introductory factor for newcomers, the level of depth for the hardcore gamers, the replayability nature for longevity, the IP recognition for novelty and most importantly a foundation of what the brand stands for. Now Sony too has a foundation for their modern day brand, but most of its timeless IPs are either dormant or with another studio outside their publisher. And to reintroduce them with potential fans getting pissed off may not go well. They could try a 3D fighter, you rarely see many of those. If they can do it right, might become another genre they can corner the market at.

@@greekieshion4501 My mistake on the wording, not to put down all the other fighting series out there. What I’m referring specifically is that Smash(depending on the times) as fighting game, resonates to more of a wider player base in comparison to Street Fighter or even Tekken. Since Smash 5 has concluded and the recent SF6 and T8 are starting to get more of its legitimacy back, its player base has started to recover and gain more popularity to its audiences. What I’m trying to argue here is if Sony tries to go for the Smash route again, there’s already going to be some hefty hurdles is gonna leap. Character recognition, Story Mode, 2 or 4 player focus, Arcade mode, Unlockables, etc. Now they have some templets they can choose from such as Smash, Street Fighter, Tekken, Mortal Combat, Marvel vs Capcom, just to name a few. But it’s uncertain if Sony has enough of a prestige legacy to make their fighting game on the same level as some of those other fighting game franchises. I’m not saying it can’t work, but how can modern day Sony make it work?
@greekieshion4501
@greekieshion4501 Год назад
@@demetriusnp49 Ehhh...I mean considering Nick-All Stars and Multiversus both tried to appeal to the Smash market by making their game similar to theirs but failed because of the hurdles you mentioned, it feels more like something that unless met with proper support, won't live past the month it released. And tbh with you I wouldn't really consider Smash a true fighting game, but that's a sidetrack. That and, most of the hardcore appeal, and therefore the competitive side of Smash, is with Melee, a 20+ year old game that's aged like sour milk. Going through a different route can work, but unless Sony really puts in the work and gets the know how to make a fighting game (be it 3D, traditional, or Anime) either from themselves or a company with experience (capcom, bandai namco, arcsys), not to mention be willing to spend money to make sure the product gets updated for a long period of time? Yeah, it'll probably be too much work for Sony.

I really like All Stars (I even bought the VITA and PS3 versions separately) and would enjoy a sequel. But I do feel it's unlikely to come out since it doesn't seem as likely to be a smashing success as I feel most Playstation gamers aren't as "interested" in different Sony IPs as much as Nintendo's players are. Or perhaps the better term would be "isolated from the different IPs". Looking at Smash Bros, Smash Bros is a success in part that Nintendo has a higher proportion of 1st party IPs that are beyond household names, but also because Smash Bros appeals to Nintendo users' tastes. Like, a person that plays Mario Sunshine or Mario Kart Double Dash or Zelda would be more likely to be into Smash Bros since Smash Bros carries the same kind of energy, feel and appeal as these other franchises even if the genre is completely different (it helps that people like Miyomoto have had a hand in different Nintendo franchises so that "feel" is present in different games). I mean, if you're someone that bought a GameCube instead of a PS2 or Xbox, you're someone that already likes what Nintendo's doing as much or more than what 3rd parties typically do. The appeal of the PS2 was the massive 3rd party lineup with the exclusives being more of a bonus after all (at least at first. It's hard to argue against a console that launched with GTA3). In contrast, a huge, if not majority, of Playstation users have more attachment to the 3rd party games on PS systems than Sony's own IPs. On the PS2 for example, the best selling games were stuff like GTA, Need for Speed, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Tekken, Madden FIFA etc. Only Gran Turismo is the Sony IP that was the juggernaut on the sales chart. The other best selling Sony IPs on the PS2, God of War and Ratchet, although very successful, are still behind these other franchises. It's a bit different for the PS3 with Uncharted, GOW, TLOU and Gran Turismo dominating the top spots with GTA, COD, Final Fantasy and Dark Souls scattered about. And we saw how despite that, it wasn't enough for All Stars 1 to do amazing. But with the PS4, while in terms of sales, it resembles the PS3 with more of Sony's own IPs in the top spots, we know from player counts that games like COD and most of Ubisoft's open world games actually have higher player counts. Sidenote: but this is why I feel the PS1 Classic had a bit of an uphill battle and it would only get harder for any future PS Classic consoles. Because of the large presence and impact of 3rd parties on Sony platforms, very few players have a consistent experience or lineup of games on something like the PS2. So picking the 20 or so games to represent the platform will be different from player to player compared to the SNES, NES and Genesis but I digress. Back on topic, I feel this means that for the average current PS4/PS5 user, they don't have as much attachment to other Sony IPs which makes it harder for a crossover fighting game to appeal to them. A fan of Horizon doesn't seem to have much interest in playing Killzone despite being made by the same studio. An Uncharted fan doesn't mean you're also a fan of Jak and Daxter despite being made by the same studio. So it would be harder to sell a God of War 2018 fan, fresh off playing their game with gory combat and focus on cinematic storytelling to play a cartoon-y fighting game just because Kratos is in it. Interestingly, there have been a few cases where such "cross polination" of fans have happened in Sony's past in a large and noticeable way. One such example was how many Ratchet fans were also fans of Jak. Who were also fans of Sly (likely because of the similar "feel" of all 3 games as mascot platformers despite their different developers. We also know all 3 were influenced by each other to some degree during development). Even Sony recognized this which is why there were crossover games starring all 3 such as with PS Move Heroes (and also why they often cameoed in each other's games). But that was then. And Jak and Sly didn't sell amazingly well afterwards. The only modern case of this is arguably with Uncharted and TLOU given Naughty Dog has developed them both and the 2 franchises do often trade and share mechanics and ideas between them. Maybe also GOW and Horizon which is debatable. But aside from that, there doesn't appear to be as much cross polination of fans between Sony's current IPs. Which means a crossover fighting game is a harder sell to these players. Interestingly, we saw the opposite happen to Metroid, F Zero and Star Fox. Smash Bros is unquestionably the most exposure and popularity Samus, Captain Falco and Fox have ever had. Yet the success of Smash Bros didn't translate to greater sales for Metroid, F Zero and Star Fox games. Likely because these games didn't appeal as much to people that played Smash Bros.

@@FraserSouris If Sony did a crackdown and got their studios working on more classic IP's I feel it could happen again. That same problem I think also extends to XBox too. Chiefly because aside from 3rd parties they got nothing. Halo's Dead, So is Gears of War, and they don't make an effort to do anything new for platformers with Rare, or revive any old series or make sequels. Sony has games their studios just don't make them, it's one of the reason's why I don't dust off my ps4 much anymore and why I personally skipped the PS5.The only 3rd parties I play anymore are indie games with the occasional Resident Evil or whatever catches my eye but that's it. Killer apps like Ratchet and GOW are coming to PC further justifying the lack of want for the console, and to be honest as much as I liked GOW4 I didn't have the need to play 5 immediately it's like whatever. Even playstation exclusive 3rd parties don't happen anymore because of companies like Konami going tits up. Ape Escape is gone, Nobody Cares about Metal Gear without Kojima at the helm (I hope) plus Metal Gear is multiplat with the exception of Solid 4, Castlevania has gone to gambling mobile games and games as a service with the occasional re-release which doesn't guarantee all the games there's still 11 games unavailable on modern Hardware. Without emulation some of these games have pretty high price tags too. Resident Evil's gone Multiplat so that's out even when they make a good game. Sony needs their first parties that aren't just TLOU, Uncharted, & Gran Tourismo, to have at least some form of lasting power. In the ps4 era Sony marketed the playstation as the "FUN" console while Microsoft tried to go all dull, boring, and "Edgy" (for lack of a better term) which is ironic considering the output of PS4 exclusives games was rather Dismal in presentation. Knack failed as a new IP despite becoming a meme, The Ratchet movie game was fun as usual nothing to write home about though, Bloodborne was awesome and my favorite souls game and the only one I really like (hope it gets a remaster or sequel) GOW4 was different but still good even in the context of the classic games which I all love. Also the Physical release of OKAMI Remastered on Ps4 was AMAZING and definetly sold that fun factor while calling back to where the game first launched (while having the updates and tweaks from the Wii version) Aside from those and the racing games they had mostly third party. The whole point of a console would be the rest of their exclusives and they don't really have them anymore. People would go nuts over a new Sly or Jak and Daxter game just by looking at how much people talk about it. It definetly won't be new Triple A resurgence especially in sales, but companies should be smart enough to know they don't need to make multi-billion dollars from a single product alone but we're past that point it seems so it's up in the air. I don't think the problem is sales it's just greed, typical triple A bullcrap, and general laziness (imo) Ian on the CU-podcast put it best at saying the only console you need now is a nintendo for fun quality games (as well as mobile gaming too ) and a PC for everything else. I love my retro consoles but playstation and xbox now don't got shit

Playstation Allstars was first conceptualized as a capture-the-flag style of game. And years later it just makes sense now. The PlayStation has the identity of the "over-the-shoulder action shooter" even if most games aren't like that. Pan the camera similarly to games like Ratchet, design maps based on the franchises where styles of characters can take advantage of it. Let's say Sly Cooper is a stealth-style character, so he could instantly jump onto a cornice to scout or get out of trouble. Other characters with the same skill would be Jin in Ghost mode and if we are lucky, Joker from Persona and Spiderman. Let's say other characters like Deacon can place traps around the team's bases, Kat can run on walls, Cole and Delsin can hover and Radec specializes from far distances. All of this with its proper balance, so if Kat's wall running is too much then it would serve as a passive with a cooldown. But this isn't just a hero shooter as many since first of all most of those are FPSs. While many characters have guns as it's one of PlayStation's most common genres, it's not enough to kill an enemy from afar. You need someone with mobility to secure the kill with some kind of execution (similar to how it happened in TLOU's multiplayer) So let's say Drake is really good from afar due to having machine guns and magnums. But getting closer may be difficult. That's where Sweet Tooth comes in with a berserk mode that allows him to run through the enemy fire to kill the enemy that Drake downed. Characters who don't have a lot of mobility would have options as well, let's say they go with Norse Kratos so instead of moving dashing with the boots of Hermes, he would have the option to menacingly move forward with his shield and once he gets closer let's say that Joel really won't stand a chance even if he would be one of the most capable close fighters from the ranged bunch. I don't want to write more but to me, a game like this one makes more sense than a platform fighter. I would prefer a traditional fighter but I also rather have Japanese developers or really hardcore fans doing those, so a capture the flag sounds fun for a Sony-made game.

Playstation Allstars Battle Royale is the PERFECT example of an "Over-Hated" game. This was before Smash was effectively finished as a franchise (At least for the time being) and the world was a LITTLE MORE ACCEPTING of "Smash-likes". Before the game even dropped, I distinctly and specifically remember how much hate it accrued for simply TRYING to exist. You couldn't go to reveal or promotional trailers online without the comments being FILLED with livid comments from Smash fans denouncing it as a "Smash clone" and deriding it from the top down. But then the game came out, and it DIDN'T play a whole lot like Smash; it had built in combos and strings and actively encouraged somewhat of a facilitated "Competitive" element (I put this in quotes because in the dev's own words, they WANTED it to be competitive), didn't rely on Ring-Outs as a method for defeating the opponent, Items and stage gimmicks were a little more nuanced and utility centric and its control scheme was not as intuitive as you'd think it would be. None of that mattered though, people went INTO the game expecting it to play like Smash due to their criticisms of it being a "Smash clone" and were ultimately disappointed when it DIDN'T play enough like Smash. It was incredibly frustrating for someone who JUST wanted to playa Brawler with Playstation Characters and didn't CARE about any of that or that it was a B-Tier game. But that wasn't enough, because in the background of this you had the other debates about its roster, people whining and moaning about Crash and Spyro not being present. Well, they TRIED. The devs were sweating in the background to get these IP's and people kept shutting the doors on them, and Sony was not backing them either. They were out in the wild with a game literally carrying the name "Playstation" in its title but NO ONE was willing to help them outside of the handful of IP's they did acquire. Had the game not been roasted from the start and been allowed to accumulate a fanbase, it could have potentially secured some of those IP's. It might have GOTTEN a sequel that would have allowed them to followup on their original ideas but with more support from Sony. But none of that happened. The entire thing was a passion project that everyone collectively turned their back on then gawked at its failure. And the people who actually ENJOYED the game or JUST wanted a Playstation Brawler were cucked. Right idea, wrong time. I don't think PAS is coming back. It was too negatively controversial and people crapped on the poor thing too hard. Sony looks back at this thing with shame and supporting a sequel is just going to be seen as a huge financial risk. I've love for it to return, but I have no faith in that happening.
@FizzieWebb
@FizzieWebb Год назад
I think the biggest reason for that over hate is the gameplay loop left people a bit cold. I enjoyed the interactive stages, the rival system, when it was done well, was a neat idea, and the roster was actually fairly good for how small it was, each character felt unique and fun to play as, with the obvious exception of the two Coles. But the actual gameplay loop felt.. strange... why have stage hazards like pitfalls when the only way to remove a stock is to use a characters super move? Why not just make a standard fighting game instead of a platform brawler if that's the route you want to go? It felt like a game at odds with itself.

@FizzieWeb Yeah, the game was definitely middling. I still found it greatly enjoyable and played it for about a year straight just as a casual thing to have fun on, but after months on end of dead silence after Isaac and Zeus dropped and me checking to see if any future DLC was releasing, I found out it was dead in the water and only played it for a little longer after that. In terms of their efforts, I don't feel the team did anything wrong. The gameplay elements were a little wonky but not so much so that you couldn't have fun. If they made a sequel with more funding I don't doubt they could have improved upon it; it was effectively an experimental idea like N64's Smash. Uuuunfortunately that isn't even going to happen. Smash was made at a time before mass corporatization of games and people took a lot more risks, big game devs like Sony these days don't like risks at all and PSA was sorta've the end of the "experimental" phase they had. I don't consider it a coincidence that all big budget games basically started trying to be Uncharted after that.

The biggest obstacle to this game's success came from Sony themselves. They went to the trouble of making an entirely new studio -- Superbot Entertainment -- then failed to give them the budget they needed to make this game a success. Then when the game didn't reach Sony's expected sales numbers, they broke ties with Superbot. And Superbot made one more game (a mobile game, at that), before closing their doors. So the most glaring problem with making a sequel to PSASBR is that it would either need to be done by another studio (the most likely route), or Sony would need to rebuild a LOT of burned bridges (highly unlikely). To be fair, it's not as if Superbot didn't have other problems. Want to know why Crash Bandicoot wasn't in the game? Because Activision was charging 18 MILLION DOLLARS FOR HIM. I'm pretty sure that's several times the game's entire budget. Cloud Strife and Lara Croft were vetoed by Squeenix. Donte was used instead of Dante because Capcom wanted to promote DMC. Kojima recommended that Superbot use Raiden instead of Snake...the list goes on. That said, the game does have a cult following (myself included), who would love to see a sequel. I'm confident that Sony could do it...IF they learn from the mistakes of the past. The game needs a decent budget, for starters. They also need to make sure that they get a decent number of characters into the roster, and support the game post-launch with DLC. EDIT: Oh, and this should go without saying, but making PlayStation All-Stars 2 without Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Cloud Strife, Lara Croft, or Solid Snake would be a death sentence. The game can survive without one or two of them, but all five? Don't even try.

You acknowledging PSASBR’s unique strengths at 10:41 where most other YTer’s fail to is why I always find your PSASBR videos a treat, TBP. Respect! Ultimately, your analysis is spot on. I considered myself a hardcore PS fan, who knew literally everyone on the PSASBR roster. PSASBR’s failure helped me realize just how few hardcore Sony die hards there were at the time (especially on PS3)…they just never really sold their company that way. I remember tons of gamers in high school assuming that Uncharted/GoW would eventually end up on Xbox like GTA/DMC/FF eventually did…Sony just wasn’t good at clarifying which were first party exclusives & which were third party. Ultimately though, I still think PSASBR’s sequel should continue its unique take on the arena fighter genre. If you think about it, it’s not really a “platform fighter” because falling off the platform isn’t the ultimate loss condition. PSASBR’s offense-focused, “dying-doesn’t-matter-as-much” system could lead to tons of unique gameplay ideas for the genre: score attack, team supers…heck I even think it’s SP mode could make a really neat rogue-like similar to Hades!

I think Sony has a lot of unused forgotten IPs that they can pull from if they ever make a new crossover fighter. Not only do they have LoD and Okage, but they also have Tomba, Siren, Puppeteer, Syphon Filter, SOCOM, Wild Arms, Jumping Flash, the list goes on. Tbh at least half of the roster could be taken up by obscure characters considering the amount of IPs that Sony has not touched in years.
@napalmblaziken
@napalmblaziken Год назад
@AbstractInhuman My only issue with Tomba is I have no idea who owns the IP. Whoopee Camp shut down in 2000. People say Sony does, but they renewed Legend of Dragoon around the time PSAS was out, and Tomba is older than LoD. And I can't find anything regarding it. I wouldn't be surprised if even Sony doesn't know, since they seem more concerned with re-releasing Last of Us.

I feel like the big consequence of PS finding it's "identity" is that it's current lineup lacks variety as they tend to cater to the same niche of cinematic games, really the only series outside of that that Sony is still making are GT, R&C, LBP, and the Playroom. When I think about it, it arguably makes more sense for a PS crossover to lean heavily into third-parties than Smash because of how important those companies are to it's legacy compared to Nintendo's self-reliant nature. For gameplay, I know the obvious solution for a lot of people is to just make it a full on Smash clone or to make it a traditional fighter, but I honestly got into what was there before, so I would just take that and make it better (healthbars, maybe that scrapped "sumo mode," or a dash to make the characters faster). A new one could have an advantage because of that niche I mentioned earlier, in that they could craft a good single player campaign if they bring in some of PS Studios' best writers at the moment.

If I remember correctly, PSASBR was originally going to be some sort of team arena game, I think the main mode would be 'Capture the Flag'. Personally speaking, I don't think capture the flag would work as a main gameplay mode, but the arena concept could work. A lot of Playstation games tend to be over-the-shoulder action games, weather they be shooters, beat-em-ups, platformers and so on. So with enough tinkering and tight-nit gameplay mechanics, I could definitely see PSASBR 2 be some sort of tag-team arena fighter. Something along the lines of classic Tenkaichi.

There were a couple of different capture the flag games in quake like freeze tag where you get frozen if your killed on the enemy side and need a guy to unfreeze you right next to you. Sometimes the flag was a ball to score on the other teams net too.

Honestly, the biggest reason I didn't play the game was the gameplay. The whole idea that the only way to defeat your opponent was super moves made the super moves feel less special. It was no longer a cool option, it was a necessity. It also let to potential to be totally screwed over because another character was getting the crap beaten out of them. Seriously, if you were playing free for all, you could play perfectly but then get totally destroyed because the most aggressive player went after the least skilled one and overcharged their super meter.

Whenever a crazy crossover like this happens there's always the subject of the Unifying Artstyle, and I had this idea for a while now. The art-style should reference the polygonal look of the Playstation 1. Just look at projects like Bloodborne PSX and other modern animators who have managed to master that artstyle One thing that bothers me about Multiversus is that while it tried to bring everyone under a banner of a cartoony artstyle, it lead to realistic characters being turned into cartoons but cartoon characters remained unchanged. I think one of the things that made all stars so special was how much it hyped up it's crossovers, in smash bros, because all the characters are relatively similar, it wasn't *that* surprising to see Link and Mario slapping eachother, but psasbr knew how stupid it was being and took it to the extreme, Sackboy & Big Daddy, Kratos and Sweet Tooth, or Fat Princess & Evil Cole (still funny that they needed to double up on Cole to fill their roster tho) are pretty silly pairings, and make for *incredible* cutscenes, if they made the choice to cut the story mode, it'd take away one of the best things the original game had going for it.

SE where in the Middle of doing XIII while BR was in development and as the rest of third parties, they wanted the money AND publicity for the new games. The same for Lara croft because they where in the middle of the survivor reboot. Also Crash and spiro would be almost impossible now because of Microsoft owning both of them. Never heard that name before, every I know just calls it "Sony Smash", I did enjoy the game tho and would be up for another one. Well this ended up longer than I expected, sorry for the wall of text to follow. While I've heard of Medievil and Killzone before the Sony Smash I found Dan cool and Radec interesting, to the point it made me check out both franchises and get into them, the former more than the latter I'll admit. But that's one aspect of Smash Bros that I don't see people talk all that much about. You do talk about how some character choices in PSASBR were cynically advertising for then upcoming games, but Smash Bros is not that different. It just usually instead of advertising specific games it's to help keep Nintendo's characters and franchises evergreen in peoples' minds in-between releases for those series. This is anecdotal but I've known multiple people that bought Metroid Dread on a whim because "Is that that cool robot from Smash?". Every time there's a Nintendo Direct of some sort you get people excited because of the chance of a new Kid Icarus, Metroid, F-Zero, heck I've even seen people wanting a new Ice Climbers despite how unlikely a new game for those series are. When Banjo & Kazooie made it into Smash and then Sakurai had that showcase "#Xbox" started tending in Japan for the first time. I'm sure the third parties that made it in, like King of Fighters, got a boost of interest and sales from characters making it in. I've heard someone, I'm afraid I don't recall who, call this "The King Maker Effect". Playstation could make use of something like this. Sure we're probably not getting another Sly Cooper, Medievil, or Jak game any decade soon. But keeping these characters in a regularly released series could keep interest in their respective franchises high enough that if someone did want to pitch a new entry it wouldn't seem that out there of a concept and would let them respond more quickly to market trends. Not to mention give younger people who didn't grow up with their games a reason to check 'em out in the Playstation Store other than reading the online ramblings of old codger, like myself, about how good those games are.

I'm down for a new PS All Stars. This was my summer game in 2013 and at the time I liked it more than Smash Bros. Brawl. I even didn’t mind the KO system, the supers were just really unbalanced which is why there was hardly any character diversity since supers are the only way to get kills. I think the biggest problem besides lack of marketing was just the roster. It wasn’t hype at all. But that wasn’t really the devs' faults; they tried to get Crash, Spyro, and Cloud etc. but the companies didn’t want to play ball. Hopefully they would now.

From here and there the game consist on Astro Bot traveling across a broke multi dimension reality, teaming up with PS-characters on each new world (or medium size open zone) and at the end of each mission that ends with a Boss fight from that game-world-IP, Astro recruit the partner for the final confrontation and then he/she will be aviable on the HUB to talk with an as such to go back to other IP-worlds for collectables, EXTRA-challenges and post-game. I've seen Golden Bolt's video. I liked it. Also like yours. But maybe I'm biased because I liked Playstation All-Stars and definitely think we could use a sequel. If they do, I think changing things up a bit might be in order. The specials are cool but the fact that they are the only way to get any kills kind of limits things. You essentially pick who you think has the best special and the best ones tend to be the level 2s that let you kill multiple people if you're skilled enough. I know I never bothered with the level 3 that were just instakills on everyone because, well, I could probably get those 3 kills using a 2, so it's essentially the same result with half the resources. I get that they wanted to reward people for being in the fray, but this wasn't the right solution. Yes, stock matches in Smash reward people for not fighting and turtling whenever possible but Smash also has multiple game types, so you could play time and now turtling kind of hinders you because you might not die but you also won't get any kills, so no points.

I also hope for another All Stars one day as not only would it be cool to see another game featuring all the new PlayStation characters introduced since then, but it would be fitting with how PlayStation is currently focusing more on making exclusives and what's more exclusive then a fighting game about their unique characters. I personally could see the game having a story that is similar to what you would see in Smash Bros. and Mortal Kombat. A multiversal threat (who could be Polygon Man again) and his minions (maybe two could be Lunk and Gleeber from PlayStation Move Heroes) are taking items from various PlayStation games to create chaos in the PlayStation-Verse, as with enough chaos Polygon Man will gain the power to take over and re-create the PlayStation-Verse to his liking. This causes the respective PS characters to go on an adventure to save the day where they run into each other and slowly team up to stop the real threat and other PS characters that have teamed up with Polygon Man, some of which could be characters that are resurrected or from another universe where they are still alive like Clockwerk (Sly Cooper) and Baldur (God of War).

All the best fighting games now have multiple modes. Along with the fighting mode (more in a moment) there needs to be some kind of story mode. Whether it is preset events containing all the characters in the game (Mortal Kombat) or a character you pick learning new moves and strategies in a 3D world (Street Fighter 6 or Alpha 3). I think the Smash Bros style of fighting needs to be nixed. I'm unsure if it should go the route of Powerstone, Capcom crossovers, or Mortal Kombat. All 3 of those franchises have frantic and lighthearted action that is a bit more flashy than strategical. I feel that presentation works best for a salad of franchise characters with different tones. The roster would need first-party franchise characters, third-party characters, and two characters created just for the game.

To this day I still this PSASBR gets way too much shit. For all intents and purposes, the game was a genuine labor of love and not a cash grab, if you look into the development of the game, you'll see that the people at SuperBot tried their damndnest to make a game that was a love letter to Sony's history, and you CAN see it in the final product. The roster has characters that either come from successful franchises or are suprisingly obscure picks, not unlike what Nintendo did even back in Smash 64 (seriously, I'd probably never heard of MediEvil if it wasn't for Sir Daniel appearing in this game) The stages have a really cool "merging" concept and the details you can see on each of them shows that the developers really did their homework with each series (hell, the Buzz stage has a trivia game as a gimmick that tests how much of a PlayStation fan are you). The fact that they went out of their way to get as many of the original voice actors to reprise their roles, not just for the playable characters, but also characters that only appear in cutscenes and even narrators (also the fact that they kept characters like Heihachi speaking their original languages because that's just how it is in their home games). The issue with the 3rd Party characters feeling like they were just there to promote upcoming games wasn't even the fault of the developers, that's just what the 3rd parties demanded, and they couldn't say no to them because they REALLY needed any 3rd party characters they could get (Raiden instead of Snake? That was Hideo Kojima's idea. DmC Dante instead of OG Dante? That was Capcom's idea. Young Heihachi instead of Old Heihachi? That was Namco's idea. Not to mention Activision being Activision and thus not bothering to let them use Crash and Spyro). Really, I think Nickelodeon All-Star Brawn and MultiVersus feel more like cashgrabs because of how they're presented and how pandering and obviously advertising they are (ie, them having meme characters like Hugh Neutron and LeBron James or characters used to promote something that was released that year like Black Adam). I know this all ties back to this game being made "at the wrong time" but honestly I feel this game wouldn't feel as "special" as it is if it wasn't made at that time... and I honestly doubt Sony making a sequel would feel the same considering how much it has changed since, for better or worse. Also, crossovers are all about seeing different characters from different series interacting, so I don't see why they shouldn't go that route again, some people might call it "cringy" but that's part of the fun (videogames being fun? Is that even possible?), it's the reason why stuff like Kingdom Hearts and The Subspace Emmisary are so well-regarded.

Astro, Sackboy, Ratchet and Clank (with Rivet alt skin), Crash Bandicoot (with Coco alt skin), Kratos and Atraus, A current gen Final Fantasy Rep, Naked Snake (Big Boss alt skins), and all of those abandoned DLC characters that got left on the table the first time around. For an inspired choice, Peashooter from PVZ (GW style). Just for the WTF equivalent to the Piranha Plant. For a Joke choice, Every COD Protagonist in one character.

Considering how cinematic Sony games are and how most of them since the beggining where in a 3D enviorement...I think an Arena Fighter could had worked better... Melee atacks, gun attacks, quick time events, it could work... Also platform fighters are for manchilds xD

Bring back the whole roster from before. Update characters like Dante and Kratos to their most recent iterations. Expand the roster with all those who deserve it like Crash, Spyro, Lara Croft, Alucard, Wander, Aloy, Cloud, and heck maybe even Spider-Man.

I'm still bitter over the fact that they had planned Dart from Legend of Dragoon lined up for DLC, only to pull the plug

I think it says something about my perspective that the pick I want to see the most is Wander from SOTC. Given his fighting style in that game, I would absolutely love to see how that translates to a fighting game. Maybe he gets progressively more corrupted as he takes more damage until he turns into a colossus. Other than that, this sounds like a game I would love to play, given how much PlayStation properties were a part of my high school years.

Sackboy a big adventure was not a attempt at revivitalizing the lbp franchise it was not advertised as a lpb game and it's not if they want to revive the ip they should make a re release collection on ps5 and pc

My favorite "All-stars" type of game is Heroes of the storm. Being a MOBA matched perfectly with most of the characters. Maybe Sony needs a third person adventire game. That would match perfectly with the new IP besides making a movie.

Same this game didn’t have a sequel, more dlc characters like Shadow the Hedgehog (maybe Sonic too), Lara Croft, Resident Evil characters like Chris, Jill, Wesker and Nemesis, Solid Snake, Ninja Gaiden, Crash Bandicoot, and Mortal Kombat characters like Scorpion and Sub Zero and even Spawn would’ve been sick I know he’s not owned by Sony but he would be sick. And maybe even Max Payne (RIP James McCaffrey), and Cloud from Final Fantasy

Well it does seem to be the time but if you ask me on how well it may sound too much Kingdom hearts but how about a story driving RPG.

At first I thought Marvel vs Capcom in 3D as a way to make it stand out. But what would the control scheme be like and how would it translate visually? I was about to give up on that idea until I remembered Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks. Suppliment a system like that with tag mechanics and I think it could work.

While I wouldn’t mind if the sequel remained as a platform fighter, Im on board with everyone else that the game should switch to a 2d style tag team fighter similar to MVC 3. Though, if a sequel were to happen, it should retain some elements from PSASBR such as Arcade, stage mashups, and the rival system. With the addition of separate character selections based on each Playstation era, a substitute for supers that function as score points, and bosses either from iconic franchises or exclusive to the game. I’d also include maybe characters interactions before a match like with modern MK games. As for Arcade, each character will have their own ladder based on their traits. Lastly, supers this time around should be quick and strategic with the exception that supers should enable risk and reward.
