Tell me you don’t know the difference between divulging classified details of an operation, and talking about personal responsibility and out of print books... without telling me.

Also the military uses these guys up....lots of injuries....lots of PTSD.....lots of divorces. When these guys leave the teams they don't have much personal identity after the teams. I wish we as citizens would consider the damage done to our military personnel before we get into another low-level war. Great podcasts by former teams guys talking about the personal cost of high-intensity combat.

Even back in 2005, SEALs had a poor reputation for...exactly the behavior this guy talks about. Other SOF communities saw them as children who behaved poorly with no supervision. What time they spent not committing war crimes was spent looking for acting gigs, book deals, and trying out different gear cocktails.

Medal of honor was amazing because of the consulting. It wasn't a commercial success compared to arcade style call of duty but the authenticity was there.

Military members have higher standard and expected to follow them. So trying to find people who are civilians as friends or close relationships are harder to establish then ever before. Alot of civilians don't what upholding the constitution means. And many young adults support rhetoric, policy's, and view points which go against the Constitution. Unfortunately, elected officials do this as well, which is against their oath to office, but they receive no consequence. So people think it's okay. " .. Another misfortune, is when high ranking leaders, try to implement a toxic social experiment being pushed in the civilian culture, into the military one. They are obviously not good recruiting tools as before all the shows, and movies the seals operated incognito, and were the most elite force in the world, and did not lose one man, and had plenty of integrity. Now you have multiple seals dying in combat and training, and some are profiting from giving up what should be classified information.

I struggle to take any of the ex SAS/SEAL types seriously, and assume that if they're making a career in TV/RU-vid then they must have been one of the crappier soldiers.

There’s no such thing as a crappier Tier 1 Trooper. They’ve all passed the same course, exchanged the same blood & sweat and earned a right to sell their stories. Take Chris Ryan and his story of the greatest evasion in history serving over 10 years in SF. What should be in place is a confidentiality agreement and I’m pretty sure there already is but one thing that won’t change is the “Hero” title these guys have and in today’s world of social media, films, games etc their knowledge in every aspect of being Tier 1 operator is very much in demand. There’s no stopping it.

He was a promoter of the seals as his profession by the military though for a while so that kind of makes sense if you think about it since his job was to inspire/recruit the next generation of seals. In the actual book he talks about his struggles to make it through the training, to be fair to him though he really doesn't go into anything further. I think if you're being fair he isn't really in the same category as some of the other offenders.

I think all these entertainment depictions of the SEALs should be like in Captain Philips. Show up. Get the job done. Disappear. No messing about and no exposed tactics.

To be fair, we only get snippets of their lives. Most veterans do a good job of conveying the emotion and mental image rather than word-for-word tactics and procedure. Most people do not keep up with their struggles and the weird things they go through. The only difference is that some have chosen to make a business out of it. Used as a recruiting tool? Definitely. Is it any different from having a Navy Seals Charlie Sheen movie? Not really. Some young guy who feels like he has got no future is going to sign up for the military just because they saw this movie or read that book, nothing can change that. Will veteran stories be used to better other peoples' lives? I think so. They can use their leadership experiences and turn it into something that helps others. Why do you think re-integration into modern society is so hard for veterans? Eventually, there will be so many veterans for the younger generation to learn from. Cashing out will be less of a social stigma. Letting them make a business out of what used to drive them can be the first steps towards a more ordinary life once again. You already sign away a lot of your freedoms by joining the military. Let them live freely once they leave the military. They're no different from the next person, they just have the mental fortitude and never quit mentality.

Could happen the navy ship I was in always got a seal team arrive late night from the portside of the ship go into the hanger then just go mix in with the crew always stayed few days and did drills then they just vanish rarely we ever saw the same people in course of years. How did I know ive worked in LPD and LHD ships.

Everybody wants to fight a cop who is former Navy Seal so they can get 5+ years in prison for assault on a police officer? I used to live in Virginia Beach and I know a handful of SEALs and retired SEALs, the only time anyone wants to give them trouble is if alcohol (ego) is involved and even then it’s rare.

Its a double edge sword most of these guys only knows what they learn in the seals and navy when they get out and the only way they can support there family is by giving up some secrets i once heard a seal said between his ex wife and children and current wife the bills keep piling up and there only one thing he knows how to do and that's killing so he consult and every once in a while body guard work also work he describes as weekend fishing.

It is a monumental task that only a select few complete. And i even have to doubt that he would even want to work for the FBI as a profiler. Delta training would send him down the path of espionage, intelligence/counterintelligence, or the Secret Service. The CIA would have recruited him before the bureau could even get a whiff of his JSOC debriefing. Parking him at a desk would be a waste of his training. There are tons of psychology degrees running around... but a trilingual demolitions specialist with expert marksmanship skills, SERE training, and jump wings are a little more of a rarity. sorry to burst your bubble about it all...
