THE HARDER THEY FALL MOVIE REVIEW |
The Harder They Fall Movie Description:
When an outlaw discovers his enemy is being released from prison, he reunites his gang to seek revenge.
The Harder They Fall is a 2021 American Western film directed by Jeymes Samuel, who co-wrote the screenplay with Boaz Yakin. The film stars Jonathan Majors, Idris Elba, Zazie Beetz, Regina King, Delroy Lindo, Lakeith Stanfield, RJ Cyler, Danielle Deadwyler, Edi Gathegi, and Deon Cole. It is one of few Westerns whose principal cast members are all Black. Its characters are loosely based on real cowboys, lawmen, and outlaws of the 19th-century American West.
The Harder They Fall had its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on October 6, 2021. It received a limited release on October 22, 2021, prior to streaming on Netflix on November 3. The film received generally positive reviews for its cast as well as Samuel's direction and score.

Yeah especially with this movie, it's literally "a gang member is back so now this current gang member needs to kill him" like they could of done so good but they literally just made a western turf war... And the "majority black cast" doesn't really mean shit when they arnt good actors, I'd like to see a western with great characters then "oh there skin is all darker yeah woo" like tf?

I loved the use of color and sound throughout the film, but particularly in the white town, and then the fight with the ladies around all of the dye, as well as the small details around the establishments - so many westerns have drab sets, whereas there is color all over the place in this film.

There shouldn't be any shame in watching movies for Black people. Be proud to see yourself represented. The problem however is the genres we give our attention to because if the market says Black people don't like sci-fi there are no sci-fi movies. However we get 10 Menace to Society type movies. But, don't not want them because of that. It is about support. You should check out Dead Presidents (Chris Tucker kills it) and Fences.

When you talked about black movies pushing forward and breaking out into different genres, the film I thought of was Sorry To Bother You directed by Boots Riley. It's a surrealist black comedy that is completely off the walls and hilarious. Definitely worth checking out and reacting to, plus not a whole lot of reactors have got to it yet.

@@morfx9911 I enjoyed this movie because the people on the screen looked like me, talked like me and were more realistic to the history of cowboys in the “Wild West”….. I’ve seen other westerns, they all the same shit. Bad guy is super villain that has a gang of villains, who opposes the white wearing good guy…. The good guy kills the bad guy at the end…… The genre is the predecessor of the Superhero franchise that now rules the big screen. Something about seeing someone on screen that looks like you, makes it better. The music was better than the old whistling old westerns had. The women looked better. I actually feared the main villain. I mean that’s why it just came down to one of the best for me.

I found it lacking, horribly written characters, no character arcs, too much modern slang used and takes me out of the western, no suspense or real sense of danger, it's also very ADHD with its cuts and the story was so bland... "A gang leader is back so now the current gang leader running things has to go kill him"... If I wanted to see an all black cast speak slang and have a turf war I'd go to Detroit 😂

1. Who tf said this movie wasn't as good as people said? They were haters 2. I stopped watching Tyler Perry movies because they continue to be ridiculous. I totally remember growing up watching the plays in the family room. While I totally support his success and all the things he's had to overcome to make it this far, he needs some new material 3. This movie for me was phenomenal! The writing, directing, and musical production was done by Mr Semuels, I feel like this was his opus. When I heard Lauryn Hill as well as Cee Lo Green, I just lost it! I thought the set looked a little cheap but I gave it a pass due to covid. 4. What I REALLY APPRECIATED was how this supporting cast was allowed to just SHINE! I mean some of these actors were almost unrecognizable by the way they immersed themselves in their characters. I mean I was truly shocked at Deon Cole! You could tell that everyone really believed in this film and wanted to give their best. Lakeith Stanfield, Jonathan Majors, and RJ Cyler continue to leave their marks on each role they get, I'm delighted to watch their stars rise. Also the girl that played Coffee was really good 5. I think there are those that overlooked the importance of this film. It's often said that representation matters. This film points out how much our Black History matters, especially in America where it seems like they're constantly trying to get us to disregard or forget that history. These characters represent real ppl in our history. *****This is the second time in recent years that Bass Reeves has been mentioned in tv/film. Regina King was in both. I HIGHLY recommend you react to The Watchmen, it's only 1 season and it was done so well! ****

Mel I hear what you're saying and I respect your opinion. I get tired of the same kind of characters in movies too until I realized they are only showing life. Those hood classics are some of my favs because they will show a black man or woman getting into a life of crime and they go through all these struggles to find themselves. That happen to us, we go through things unfortunately, but come out strong on top. I used to hate the idea of struggling but I have no contool over my obstacles in lfe, just know I gotta get over them. Those black classics continued to show what was being ignored. Everyone say we're violent people, we make a movie to show our way of life then we get bashed for it. I know that I like when we get a black character in a movie who is not always popping gum and loud, but I also hate when they make her super proper with the tighest curls ever. It seems like they only see as as one or the other, but when looking at my surroundings some of us in our community really are both or a mixture, I am. Representation in black movies are hard. First we want to be shown for the real life struggles then I guess we get tired of that then we want the perfect life, then we say thats too unrealistic. How about we just make movies that fit around all of it. Don't be ashamed of those movies, they are just trying to follow what they seen/experienced sometimes what they make like over other things too.

wish i could watch this video, but i haven't seen the movie yet. i get so caught up in all the netflix series the movies get pushed to back burner. i should at least work a movie in between shows. thanks for the wake up call.

First time watching your videos. Right at first I was not sure. But I really enjoyed your show/ You know your shit. You seem to be critiquing the movie as you are watching it. Never seen that before. Never even thought about it. What a wonderful perspective. Great job. One thing, Stop forgetting actors names. Have a list before you start. especially Delray Lindo

What was good about it? I found it lacking, horribly written characters, no character arcs, too much modern slang used and takes me out of the western, no suspense or real sense of danger, it's also very ADHD with its cuts and the story was so bland... "A gang leader is back so now the current gang leader running things has to go kill him"... If I wanted to see an all black cast speak slang and have a turf war I'd go to Detroit 😂

If you'd like to watch some other westerns, here's a few I think you need to watch. Once Upon a Time in the West The Wild Bunch My Name is Nobody (I know you like comedies) A Fistful of Dynamite (not Dollars)
